There is nothing wrong with switching it up. Rihanna knows who she is and def has a defined personality and style, unlike alot of other artist. She is extremely versatile and it shows.

My mother and I had a discussion about this young lady and we agreed that being visually appealing doesnt make you good or great singer or performer. My mom thinks our church choir did better than any of her performances most sunday mornings…… she’s right!!
The bottom line is Rihanna looks good in clothes and probably should be modeling. I don’t feel any any emotion coming from her music. She stands on stage like a deer caught in headlights and her voice is usually monotone. I’m gonna say it…………..She is no Beyonce and never will be. B owns it, luvs it, and it shows!!

I don’t think Rihanna can sing very well, however, she is not the only artist in this industry who does not “sing” well. What does that mean anyway? How are we to judge? Do you measure this quality by vibrato, how long one can hold a note, range? If so, then a lot of our favorite artists whom we love cannot sing by these standards . Sade is one who sings with no vibrato, what about Prince, Janet Jackson, and what about Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s or the leader singer from Phoenix, etc? Even Alicia Keys who does not have a great range, strains & has little vibrato. And yet we still like their songs, and appreciate their contributions. My point is why keep singling her out for that quality? What she is… is not a strong performer as she lacks stage presence, and if she were able to conquer that, then she would be fine.
Also, why are people always harping on the fact that “she does not know who she wants to portray”? Who is she supposed to portray exactly? Aren’t humans multidimensional? We are complex beings that exhibit MULTIPLE styles, and personalities depending on what stimuli surround us. We evolve, and we change. When she first came into this business she was 18…. and now she is 21. How many of us have changed from our teenage years into our early 20′s? It’s called evolution. She isn’t the only artist who has done this and I’m sure she won’t be the last. In this lifetime, few things are guaranteed to happen. But one thing that is certain is that change is the inevitable.

Not a Rihanna fan, but feel sorry for her. Can’t sing, stiff as all hell, tries to Bey confident on stage and it all just comes off as trying way to hard. Was outstanding with fashion, now owned by Gaga who can dress and sing. She gets over with flat note songs that doesn’t need volume and many times has been seen buying/studying Bey’s stage performances, but it comes a point where if you can’t cut it – bounce. Anyone can be fashionable with the right person behind them. Rihanna is the black Britney Spears.
