HBO premieres The Black List: Volume 3 Monday, Feb. 8 at 8:30 EST with interviews from Lee Daniels, Whoopi Goldberg, Hill Harper, Beverly Johnson, Debra Lee, John Legend, Dr. Michael Lomax and LaTanya Richardson.
PRECIOUS STARS IN VANITY FAIR
Lee Daniels, Mo’Nique and Gabourey Sidibe are featured in the new issue of Vanity Fair, which many are criticizing for its cover. According to the magazine:
Daniels may be the best thing that has happened to actors since Robert Altman. His unforgettable Precious, a harrowing but ultimately hopeful domestic drama, gets its power, in large part, from the brave performances turned in by newcomer Sidibe and the multi-talented writer-comedian-actress Mo’Nique…Together Daniels, Sidibe, and Mo’Nique have given voice and form to characters who might otherwise be invisible.
As we mentioned earlier this week, the trio earned Oscar nominations for their contributions to the film.

Do some research and look at the white movies that won; they are depressing also. Precious and Monster’s Ball were good movies that’s why they won. But it is unfortunate that mostly every black movie that gets an Oscar nom. or award is about someone on drugs(Jamie Foxx as Ray) or a black person killing someone (Denzel in Training Day) after all those excellent movies he did including Malcolm X, he was not nominated for, but he got an Oscar for training day when he played a negative role. I really did not like training day, but Malcolm X was an iconic film.

Also, not all “white” movies that get nominated for Oscars are depressing, look at Up in the Air and Avatar for instance. In the past, there was Sideways, Magnolia, and other quirky/indie dramedies.

I agree w/ most of what you say, Judah-however, I think simply outlining the ills of black women & homosexuals is wrong. I wish black men respected the beauty and grace of a black woman that does know the Lord. Instead of taking cues from the likes of Reggie Bush , P. Diddy, etc. as to what physical standards black women should be measured by.
In order to change the tide of degredation in the Black community-Black women AND men need to change their ways.
Men need to stop SOLELY focusing on women’s body parts and value her mind, spirit, personality and faith more. And women need to stop trying to make men their salvation, stop focusing on his wallet and member & base their love on what men do for the community, their families and even themselves.
