Following a visit to the White House earlier this week, Beyonce cut the ribbon at the Beyonce Cosmetology Center at Phoenix House in Brooklyn on Friday (March 5) with her mother, Tina, while New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg looked on.
Beyonce was first acquainted with Phoenix House when she began preparing for her portrayal of Etta James in the film Cadillac Records, meeting with women in treatment. Moved by their stories, she donated the salary she received from the film, and she and Mama Tina developed the idea of adding a cosmetology program which would allow men and women in treatment to prepare for careers in the cosmetology field after a seven-month training course.

Solange does do something (i.e her music), she just doesn’t get as much attention for her music as others and the fact that she has a famous relative that is successful actually makes it harder for her because the same people that say she need to stop riding her sisters coat tails (which she doesn’t, IMHO) will turn around and tell her she needs to sit down etc when she’s trying to get on her grind and do for herself.

I got excited about the cosmetology school, until I saw it was for women in treatment! LOL I said oh nevermind hahaha Im starting school soon, she should make Regular Cosmetology school for women who arent in treatment! And Fashion Design schools, that would be great.

To know that some people have such a one track mind and think that celebrities don’t have feelings is beyond me!
I remember years ago when after being taken to a hospital after his Pepsi accident, Michael Jackson donated a bunch of his money to the hospital so that a burn unit could be built in his name. Its always good to see celebrities using their wealth & earnings for GOOD, and it seems that visiting the Phoenix House before playing Etta James must’ve really touched Beyonce. I’m glad she was moved to contribute to the women there in some way, and the cosmetology vocational center is definitely a good look.
