Following a visit to the White House earlier this week, Beyonce cut the ribbon at the Beyonce Cosmetology Center at Phoenix House in Brooklyn on Friday (March 5) with her mother, Tina, while New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg looked on.
Beyonce was first acquainted with Phoenix House when she began preparing for her portrayal of Etta James in the film Cadillac Records, meeting with women in treatment. Moved by their stories, she donated the salary she received from the film, and she and Mama Tina developed the idea of adding a cosmetology program which would allow men and women in treatment to prepare for careers in the cosmetology field after a seven-month training course.

The marketplace wasn’t as crowded when Beyonce released, and Rihanna never opened with huge numbers to begin with. Beyonce didn’t have to contend with Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, Shakira, and a slew of others dropping albums on the same day. I’m a Beyonce fan, but I didn’t buy I am Sasha fierce, because IMO, it wasn’t really a good album. I bought single ladies and diva off of itunes and kept it moving. Though not as radio friendly, I recently bought Rated R and I am very satisfied. It’s the only album I’ve bought recently that I can listen to straight through.

Bey is very beautiful and talented. She doing all the work now that she is young and don’t have kids yet. She is a very smart woman in this regard. I think she will be a great mom because by then she will take the time to be one, plus her mother is a good role model. Hopefully when she take that path in life she can take some college courses online to broaden her intellect and communication skills when she talks. This is a beautiful thing my Queen is doing. The women that are residents and that will start to train there were in tears in the interview that someone thought enough of them to make a difference. Beyonce and her Mother are also donating $100K annually to this center. Nice going from a talented and beautiful woman.
