MAG COVERS: LALA COVERS LATINA MAGAZINE

Check out the April 2010 cover issue of Latina Magazine featuring T.V. personality Lala Vazquez. The 30 year-old sat down with the mag and spoke about her upcoming wedding, as well as her take on being Black & Puetro Rican. Check out some snippets below:

On People saying Carmelo will never marry her:
Lala: I know the story out there about me: ‘[Carmelo] ain’t gonna marry her. She got that ring but now he’s making her wait. He don’t really love her…’

Carmelo: “I wasn’t making her wait, if anything, I was waiting for her to slow down. She was doing her own thing, handling her business and we were happy. When it was time to take it to the next step we did. Period.”

On being Black/Puerto Rican
She’s speaking of a first person piece she recently wrote for Latina.com on being Puerto Rican, in which she explained that, since childhood, people have often assumed that she is black. “Which I am!” she says, almost yelling. “But I am also 100 percent Puerto Rican and I’m proud of that. People got it twisted and thought I was saying, I’’m Puerto Rican. I’m not black. That isn’t what I was saying. It’s just that when I tell someone I’m Puerto Rican, I don’t want to hear someone say, ‘You ain’t Puerto Rican. You black.’ As if I can only be one or the other. Do I look like Jennifer Lopez? No. Clearly, I’m a black woman. However you want to define that, that’s what I am. And I’m also a Spanish-speaking Puerto Rican woman. Period.

  1. KEEP IT 100

    NEWSFLASH LALA…..NOBODY GIVES A F@CK.
STOP TALKING ABOUT THE SH!T EVERY FIVE MINUTES! DAMN!

  2. Ra-Ra

I never quite understood why people were confused by the whole race/nationality issue with spanish people. Puerto Rican (like cuban, dominican, or colombian) is a nationality…not a race. You can be puerto rican and be black, white, mestizo or mulatto. Lala is correct in what she’s saying.

  3. Ra-Ra

There’s a lot of jealous women on here. Lala is very beautiful…there’s nothing wrong with her shape.

OK Ppl. It’s Like 2010 & Y’all & Many Others Are Still So Close Minded?! My Goodness. I, Myself As Well As Lala & Many Others Are Black/Mixed Latinas. Since Y’all Clearly Do Not Do Your Research & World History, Let Me Tell You That Hispanics Come In All Shapes, Forms, Colors, Whatever!

There Are The Amerindians, Which Are The “True Blue” Hispanics That Come From Native Ancestry (For Example, George Lopez). There Are The Mestizos, Which Are A Mixture Of Amerindian & White (For Example, Jennifer Lopez). There Are The Mixed Hispanics, Often Referred To As “Mulatto” (Often Mixed With Black, White, & Amerindian). There Are The Black Hispanics & Also The White Hispanics. There Are Even Indian & Asian Hispanics. The Mixed & Black Hispanics Mostly Come From Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Panama, Columbia, & Chile. The White Hispanics Mostly Come From Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Spain, & Columbia.

There Are Many Mixed/Black Hispanics, Such As, Rocsi, Lala (Of Course), Sammy Sosa, Dania Ramriez, Zoe Saldana, Julissa Bermudez, Rick Gonzalez, Reagan Gomez, Tatyana Ali…The List Goes On & On…So There You Go!

What’s really bothering Lala..that she can’t market herself if she’s considered black. She brought this subject to the surface and now she’s conflicting her previous remarks. Let it rest LaLa…you dig this ditch you lay in it. Alot of us won’t lose any sleep on your pity concerns.

  9. Kellz

Neon obviously you’re a dumbass and a FAIL. Her race is HUMAN, genius. Her nationality would be PR if she was born there and her ethnicity would be considered black. Now in terms of her culture, that’s a whole other topic like Jay was addressing. My father is from Guyana and despite the fact his parents were indian he grew up around the black culture there and identified w/ being black. Does that means he is? Hell no! Look, if you’re going bitch about ppl not getting something right, how about you get it right YOURSELF first. If you’re going to talk about semantics how about you use REAL definitions and not social concepts, NEON. Jay and BOHWE are the only people who seem intelligent on this damn board. Majority of you speak w/ the slave mentality white slave owners taught their subjects and that’s fucking sad. Maybe many of you should educate yourself on the word “race” and how it came. This especially goes for the ppl who wanna bring up slavery in the same sentence as saying “black” is a race. Do you know how dumb you sound saying shit like that? Go read a fucking book or two please.

  10. bbop212

I swear some of y’all are as dumb as a box of rocks. She put it as plain as she possibly could. If you don’t get it, I can’t it explain it to you because she layed it out perfectly.

  11. atlantageorgia

I wonder who did her butt implants or gel injections….she used to be as flat as a pancake!!!!!

  12. EnameL

she is murdering the figure 8 thing… in a bad way… just like the shakira and beyonce video, people knew who was doing the natural and who was doing the “OH IM TRYING TOO HARD”…. plz.. spare me.

  13. R U SERIOUS??? NEW DC SOCIALITE BUT MADE MY OWN MONEY

Nice airbrushing. She usually looks a hot mess. As for Melo good luck! I hope he lets go of the groupie love and disrespecting her. Melo remember your DC excursion, just saying…LaLa be careful.

  14. Who are you

    @coffee&creame you said it best!

I’m mixed (see name) but my father is black (African American) i define myself -I DEFINE MYSELF AS A BLACK WOMAN- people see me and try to figure me out_ and that’s fine – people do it all the time when i speak because i’m not from the State i live at now- Lala is fake/confused/wanna be- she came out one time on MTV (i think) and said she was not black but Latina- and okay are BOTH of your parents Latina? She wears fake hair/fake contacts/ and we all saw her in front of her car some months ago on CL and she had no hips and no butt it was straight up & down

Cassie is mixed but we do not see Cassie talking about she’s such and such Alicia Keys mom is white but Ms Keys will tell anyone she is black same for Halle Berry;becuase at the end of the day you have to own who you are.

  15. KN

    @ who are you,

Of course most mixed people are going to define themselves as black. The black ethnicity is the spot where all the rejected from other races meet and they have the gall to tell black people how to ID themselves .You are one of them.If you are mixed you are not black to start with.

Lala made it clear that her ethnicity is PR and she did reveal her complete DNA .All y’all are projecting. Me thinks there is some jealousy here mi na tell no lie. Its like when someone identifies as latin black people’s interpretation is “Oh I don’t wanna be black “.

  16. Melinda

Lala is a complete idiot it’s obvious she thinks constantly discussing her PR nationality is cute. B*&^% your ancestors were slaves brought to PR to be raped, beaten and generally treated like s*&^. So why would you brag about that?

Afro Latinos are the only group of people who are proud to be associated with the people who oppress them.

  17. Jazzo

    She looks fantastic

  18. backingbarack

No matter what this chick does she will always be ugly. She naturally looks drunk because her eyes are slurred and lazy. Plus, she is wearing a butt pad.
