Our girl Janelle Monáe is featured in the April 2010 “Shape Issue” of Vogue. This is the eccentric singer’s 3rd time being featured in the mag and this time she spoke candidly about her style and more. Check out a snippet below:
On her hair:
You might call it a pompadour, but I call it a “Monáe”.On wearing suits:
I want to look timeless. I want to be able to look at images of myself over the years and not be able to date them. Plus, you can get in anywhere wearing a tuxedo. On shopping:
It’s hard for me to find things that fit right and besides I am not into spending 8 hours haunting for them. I like to think of my body as a canvas and I don’t like my clothes to make the picture too busy..
According to Vogue writer, Mark Holgat, “Janelle may be five feet tall, but everything else — the look, the hair, the talent — is larger than life.” Monáe’s debut album, The Arch Android is in stores this May.

I agree with BackingBarack. I usually agree with you, you speak the truth!
#7 who the fuck are you to say what women wear and what’s fashion. That’s why the fashion world doesn’t make clothing for the average women because you bitches are stupid. Fashion is a form of art and no one can call art “bad” since it’s relative. The point of fashion is create a canvas on your own body which mean “to each it’s own” so bitch why don’t you go die since the world can do without one less dumb fucker.
My friend recommended me a very interesting place *** meetingrich.com*** It’s where wealthy singles looking for someone to enjoy their wealthy lifestyle
DooLunna. . I could not agree with you more. I actually loved Metropolis. She can sing, that girl is cool.

I think she is a beautiful woman…..I just cannot get into her. I don’t get it…..I don’t know why…. and I like different…..but I guess…it is her world…..I wish her well though.
And whoever made the comment about giving Lady Ga Ga props for being different…blah, blah blah…..that heffa crazy….but she can perform.
@Judah: People should pay attention, not simply to what “artists name their albums,” but to what song lyrics actually say. In context, the album title means the exact opposite of what you are implying. It is a continuation of her two previous EP’s; both of which are about trying to be an individual; even when government, culture, and the institution tell us to be mindless robots.
GO JANE! A tiny person with a gigantic voice! She is amazing! Her video for ‘Tightrope’ preimeres today!!! Soooo excited for her! ‘ArchAndroid’ drops May 18th people! Support brillance!
