MOVIE TRAILER: JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT: THE RADIANT CHILD

Check out the trailer of the documentary Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child, directed by friend Tamra Davis, which features never-before seen footage of the artist painting and talking about his art two years before his death in 1988 and sets the record straight following Julian Schnabel’s fictional Basquiat.

The film, which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance last month, was released February 21 and will be shown at SXSW next month.

I remember the film where Jeffrey Wright played him. It was terrible. Hopefully this is better.

FYI Basquiat was Haitian and Puerto Rican.

I guess I don’t understand what “fine art” is, because all I saw was some replicas of the stuff I did in grade school. I can appreciate the time he put in, but is there more?

No disrespect to this man and his truly amazing legacy but he bares a striking resemblance to Kid Cudi.

  12. Porsche

He was so talented. He was very misunderstood and I feel that what ulimatley killed him. I know jeffery wright played him in a movie but Kid Cudi looks just like him lol. Everytime I see him thats who I think of. lol

  13. Tara (Rebel to the Madness...)

I had seen the movie Basquiat with actor Jeffrey Wright a few times on television (HBO or Showtime) when I was younger around 1997. That was the first time I had noticed Jeffrey Wright, have been a supporter of his acting since; I was and am still not familiar with artist Basquiat other than the movie. I will check out the trailer of this documentary. Thanks.

I’m sorry to say I don’t much about his work, but I’ve heard the name mentioned a lot alongside “pop art” artists of the 80s like Andy Warhol. Reading his wiki, it says Jean-Michel Basquiat was the “first painter of African descent to become an international art star”. see, I just learnd something new!lol..I’m definitively interested in the documentary if to find out more about his life and legacy..
