As promised, Kelis debuts her video for her first single, “Acapella,” from her upcoming fifth studio album, Flesh Tone.
Kelis’s new album is set to hit stores in the UK on May 17th, and will drop respectively in the United States on June 22nd, via the Will.I.Am Music Group.

I absolutely LOVE this song. I remember when I first heard it, I thought that it was okay. I like electronic music, REAL electronic music, not that fake sh** you hear on the radio, and I wasn’t too sure about this single, but it’s so rhythmic and trance. When I saw the baby at the end, I said out loud “Aw.” All of this time, I thought that the song was about her discovery of true love with a man, but it’s about her kid! How sweet? The video is very innovative and different. I think that there could have been more and she should have covered up those huge tatas, but it’s was interesting to look at! This is absolutely nothing like Gaga or Rihanna’s. Kelis’ song and video actually have a true meaning. Kelis has always had an eccentric style. Why are people acting like she changed over night like Rihanna did? Lady Gaga is sl***y, disgusting, unoriginal, kooky, manufactured and talks about superficial things and Rihanna is nothing but a sex put who prances around half naked and sings catchy songs that are nonsense.
She looks like Lambchop with those heavy a** eyelashes!!!!!!

Kelis, is Kelis. Nothing more, nothing less. She’s not trying to be anyone. MAYBE just MAYBE they are going back to the STYLE of creating videos that make ABSOLUTELY no sense with what the song is about. Unfortunately, since MTV nor VH1 play music videos that much anymore, many have not seen this type of creativity.
When music videos hit the scene with MTV, most of the videos never even went with the damm song. NOT NEW FOLKS. As far a artists trying to be GAGA, GaGa is hardly unique. GaGa is GaGa, Madonna is Madonna, Jody Watley is Jody Watley, Sylvester was Sylvester, Freddie Mercury was Freddie Mercury, Prince is Prince and before that…Freaking Elton John and GRACE JONES!!!!
If you have no idea who these people are, you cannot carry on a decent conversation of musical creativity, style and shock within the music industry.
Hell they aren’t the FIRST who were creative for their generation either. I give that to the “Father” of being ORIGINAL…LITTLE RICHARD. Can you imagine what America thought when they first saw HIM on TELEVISION?
People crack me up talking about who is original and creative…there was always someone before them who shocked the world.

The song is growing on me totally. I’ve always loved kelis from way back in the day when i heard I hate you so much. Kelis and I are both from harlem so I supported her because I know where she comes from and understand her originality. She has that Bossy factor, this chick is Gonna blow. Yeah Go Team Kelis! p.s. Lil knight almost made me tear @ the end. So heartwarming.

It has to grow on me !! I just thought the song was alright but thanks to the video i can understand all the meaning and simply adore it.
For those who think that Kelis’ copying Gaga, just go educate yourselves on youtube and you’ll see that Kelis has always been innovative and she still is.
Kelis has been there since the old skool era and it’s remarkable to see her relevant today.
Fashionly speaking, she has done so many styles back in the days that we (the fans) see a bit of Kelis in so many others female stars from Teyana Taylor, Ebony Bones with the Big hair wich was her trademark to Rihanna and that Amber Rose with the asymetrik and shaved hair ( what made us all shouting ‘no’ and getting angry in the Bossy Video) and of course the coloured hair she’s been rocking since 1999.
With all of that, comparing her and how successful she is to new artists is not such a thing to do because the fact she’s still around shows that she remains for the music, creativity and self-expression.
I don’t think this new album will make her shine more than before (i hope i’m wrong) but i think that the fact she can be registered in so many different styles of music is the thing that will make her be remembered in music.

This video would be better on MUTE. The video is amazing but the song is TERRIBLE! it sounds like she got this song from some european pop group and tried 2 put her spin on it. Kelis would be all over the place if she could ever find a good song.

Unfortunately for Kelis, her record labels have pushed her “urban” songs. If anyone has every purchase a Kelis cd, you would know she’s extremely eclectic and expriments with lots of different sounds. Her second cd wasn’t even released in the states because it wasn’t commercial enough. She’s been doing her very individual act way before Gaga!! I must be older than most of you, because many of you don’t seem to know that her first cd was realeased in 1999. So she ain’t copying Gaga.
