POLITICS: HOUSE PASSES HEALTH CARE REFORM

President Barack Obama speaks following the historic vote of the House of Representatives to finally pass the health care reform legislation on Sunday night. The vote (219-212) ends a nearly 100-year-old debate of which the President said, it “wasn’t an easy vote but it was the right vote”.

He also tweeted: “Tonight’s vote is not a victory for any one party – it is a victory for the American people. Tonight, we answered the call of history.” The legislation extends health care to millions of uninsured Americans, a proposal dating back to Pres. Theodore Roosevelt, and marks the largest federal health care guarantees since Medicare and Medicaid were enacted over forty years ago.
