As many predicted actress/comedienne Mo’Nique took home to Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her powerful performance in the movie, “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.” Read some of her speech below and click the link provided for video.
First, I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics. I want to thank Mrs. Hattie McDaniel for enduring all that she had to so that I would not have to. Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey because you touched it, the whole world saw it. Ricky Anderson our attorney of Anderson and Smith thank you for your hard work. My entire BET family. My Precious family thank you so much. To my amazing husband Sidney, Thank you for showing me that sometimes you have to forego doing what’s popular to do what’s right. And baby, you were so right! [ VIDEO ]

Oprah Winfrey and actress Gabourey Sidibe attend the 82nd Annual Academy Awards Governor’s Ball held at Kodak Theatre on Sunday (March 7) in Hollywood, California.
One of the highlights of Sunday’s show was the heartfelt speech Oprah gave about Gabby and her rise to stardom, prior to the Best actress winner announcement.
“When we look at you, we see a true American Cinderella, on the threshold of a brilliant new career. Precious is but the first of many adjectives coming your way. And they are all great. Congratulations, Gabby Sidibe.”
Even though she didn’t take home the Best Actress Oscar (Sandra Bullock did), getting props from Oprah in front of millions of people had to feel good. Hey, it even brought her to tears.
