♫ PJ Morton feat. Tweet – Love You More
For his latest release singer/songwriter/producer PJ Morton takes us on a ride through familiar territory via a different musical road map. The New Orleans native is in pure form on “Walk Alone,” in which many of his tracks pull from his southern roots and church upbringing. Finding a careful mix between instrumentals generally commissioned for jazz and blues tracks Morton laces them with docile themes that keeps him teetering on the edge of his own interpretation of soul music that can’t be simply identified as merely one thing.
Much of “Walk Alone” is as easy breezy as it comes. On “Girlfriend” Morton ponders why previously uninterested women seem to be drawn to him now that he is very obviously taken. Although a simple concept the addition of guitar strings, and horns add to record’s the somewhat whimsical atmosphere. Another interesting pairing of seemingly unconventional instruments with a common subject matter is “She’s Gone.” Unlike tracks in which an artist would typically tend to slow down the music to match the heartache that comes with losing a love, Morton begins in slow motion before climaxing to a burst of heavy electric guitar chords directly contrasting the subject matter, which is intriguing if nothing else.
Morton’s musical roots remain ever present on “I Need Your Love” a track that fits snugly between dual musical genres. Layering his vocals behind horns and a clap beat as he chants “I need your love girl ‘cause I just can’t go on, that’s the reason I’m singing this song,” the song is as smooth as it wants to be which is, thankfully, outside of the box of what we’re used to.
“Walk Alone” is full off of music as opposed to simply songs. For that Morton gets major kudos. Whether it be the reggae inspired “Love You More” (featuring singer Tweet) or the piano- intense “Mountains and Molehills” each track is a trip through a instrumental journey. In this case the vocals take a back seat to the actual composition, which is not necessarily a bad thing as his vocals tend to rise only slightly above a soothing whisper. But for a musician that has worked with the likes of India.Arie and Monica pretty much whatever he sees fit is acceptable. In title only, “Walk Alone” suggests isolation but is conceptually jam-packed like a big band piece rather than a simple solo effort.
Picks:
“Forever”
“Mountains and Molehills”
“Girlfriend”

PJ Morton continues to put out great music that grows as he grows! Love it, Aries do it best
Love Love Love this album!! Ive got it on constant repeat in my car and my Ipod!! Its been a while since I’ve heard real music like this! Cant wait to see him live!
In an era of popcorn R&B singers and autotune, PJ Morton once again proves that substance, lyrical content, and musicality will always win over style. I have all 3 of his albums, all stellar, and this album “Walks Alone” continues to defy critics and garner praise from all ppl of all walks of life.
I have all of PJ’s previous projects and I can definitely say that he grows musically on each project, so this album “Walk Alone” is very diverse with GREAT lyrics and INCREDIBLE musical arrangement. It’s a must have in everyone’s music collection. GREAT job PJ. DDE!
MY DUDE PJ DID HIS THING WITH THIS ALBUM !!! REAL MUSIC IS HARD TO FIND WELL NOT ANYMORE IF U GO COP WALK ALONE !! ITS SO NECESSARY !!

P.S. you should come back home to do a concert!
I woke up with morning and the first song on my ipod was “Don’t Give Up On Your Dream” by PJ Morton. Got to the foundation I volunteer for to find the new P.J. Morton CD ( Walk Alone) had arrived fed ex. Listen to Mountains out of Molehills and realized I was the girl in the song. Its writers/composers like PJ that speaks to the little girl inside of me to keep knowing I am closer to my hearts desire.
Thank you P.J Morton for making music that wakes me up and smile. Thank you for making music that keeps me knowing someone is waiting for you, waiting for me …destiny.
Lola
I don’t think I’ve ever anticipated the release of an album as much as I have for PJ’s new one. “Walk Alone” gives you the “classic PJ” you’re used to hearing but takes it to a new level. It took me a moment to get past both “Girlfriend”, “She’s Gone” and my fave, “I Need Your Love”. If you’ve been wondering where real music has gone…wonder no more! It’s BACK!!
PJ Morton consistently puts out a great product– If you like “Walk Alone”, check out some of his earlier projects. Support good music people!
So much to say, so little space…so litte time…so few words…
With that said, I’m nearly speechless…This album is breathtaking…it’s balance has leveled so many thoughts in my head…it relates to love, life, and perception; concepts that are seemingly problematic in most of our lives…This album is therapeutic in the sense that it speaks to those areas and helps to move THROUGH them…
Honestly, I know that all summer, “Love You More” feat. Tweet, will be blasting in my car, with the windows down…The title track is on repeat for now…something about it gets me…
All in all, this album can be played straight through…no skips…AITY
Copped the Album yesterday… There isnt a song on the Joint I dont like…. Big Ups To Pj for putting alot another Banger For REAL Music Lovers!!!
I have been a HEAVY PJ Morton fan since early 2005. Each of his albums and many of his songs hold special memories of events that have occurred over the years. “Walk Alone” is no different. “Walk Alone” is jam packed with hits and tells a compelling story of growth, love, pain, commitment and self-discovery. LOVE LOVE LOVE the album….I also 100% agree w/ the standout tracks on the album

He’s like a Kanye West/John Legend knock off. There’s something about these type of artists that are so boring…. I don’t know what it is.
