Some of you are saying we shouldn’t take things so seriously, and it’s all for laughs. Well I just watched the trailer and I didn’t see anything close to funny. Yes, movies like Friday in the past were funny, but that was then and now it seems like we’re still watching the same old stuff.
Boyz in the Hood a classic movie was also a really good movie, but when they continue to come out with stupid movies like Belly 2 and Cold Blood Killers, who wants to see that crap. We’ve already seen enough of that. Can we get some real movies and roles please. Lets get it together.

I didn’t know just because someone was black, I was obligated to support/like them. I’m sure all Irish folks don’t support Colin Farrell.
I couldn’t sit through the trailer. There’s no way I could sit through the movie.
There’s a difference between intelligent comedy and exploitative comedy. Black actors and actresses have to maintain a higher standard if we’re ever going to overcome the limits and boundaries that are placed on us by those who act with the same mentality that they did in the age of blackface. We have to stop being content with exploiting ourselves in the same manner that we were forced to for decades. I’m tired of us having the option and the means to overcome oppression but then we stay where we are because it’s comfortable. Don’t call me a hater for wanting better.

My statements are about QUALITY FILMS. As African Americans we don’t have the same diversity in films that other races may enjoy and that is mostly because of the CONSUMERS. When quality films come out most African Americans simply don’t support them. Whites have every single type of filmmakers and films to choose from. Whites had Stanley Kubrick, Hitchcock, David Lynch, James Cameron, Tim Burton, Peter Jackson, and the list continues. African Americans don’t even have creative directors like Pedro Almodovar or Guillermo del Toro. All we have (for the most part) are coonish movie directors who deal as poverty pimps showing Black people acting like cartoon characters. These low rent movies also play in how blacks are perceived in real life as contrary over sexualized buffoons. I suggest some of you read Donald Bogle’s first book, Toms, Coons, Mulattoes, Mammies and Bucks: An Interpretative History of Blacks in Films, which was published in 1973. I read this book my freshman year at NYU and things have not change since 1973 because most of you see Black faces and think you’re supporting something positive when you are doing no such thing. As along as you support “rappers” like “Bow Wow” (who’s not even a real actor but that’s another subject) and these other desperate people in these trashy films you can’t complain because Hollywood will continue to cash in on these types of films at OUR expense and we won’t get any diversity or real films. I’m not saying all films have to be serious and we can’t have fun comedy films, but this movie is not even a smart comedy. I want to see quality movies with African Americans actors not this type of garbage that perpetuates the worst types of racial stereotypes. And try not to fall for this “FUBU” way of looking at things…just because you see Black faces does not mean you have to run and support it. Try to think a little more about exactly what you’re supporting.

You apparently are showing how sick and delusional you are. Bow Wow admitted to being bipolar in an interview and Ciara confirmed it by stating that was one of the reasons she ended their relationship. Plus, you can see it in his eyes.
All because Tierra Marie was in one movie does not make it untrue that she tries hard to be the sexpot in all of her videos and performances? What are you talking about? YES, she FAILS everytime she attempts to be this sultry sexy siren. This movie proves what a joke she is.
Terry definitely takes it up the as.s and I do not have to be there to see it nor would I want to be there to see it. That is how his lame as.s gets these roles and his reality show. He played a homosexual too well in White Chicks and that was how he was put on- by choosing that role. You can continue to keep your head in the sand and I don’t care. It does not change what I believe to be true and what is truth.

The movie looks like it will be funny. I do see some of the stereotypical antics in the movie, but I’ll still go see it during the matinee.
Let’s be clear. There’s nothing wrong with comedy when it’s done correctly, but how many versions of this stereotypical movie will continue to be made? It would be different if we had plentiful alternatives to what’s out there, but this is what we get– Tyler Perry movies and Friday part 13. It’s 2010. And can we please get past the “black folks are working” spiel and start demanding more for ourselves? Why should I or anyone else keep supporting garbage just because a black face is a part of it? That worked in 1960– IT’S 2010!
If anything, the supporters of this movie are the crabs in a bucket. We “uppity negroes” just want you and yours to be portrayed as realistically and beautifully as possible, even if it is a dumb comedy. You can’t get/be better unless you ask/do better.

You almost have my full agreement because you do what many others are afraid to do, and that’s put the black consumer on blast. Too often we fail to understand that we are in a capitalistic society, and that supply is only met with what is in demand. Therefore, when “coon” movies come out and we support them, well, the prediction will be if these sorts of movies are continually produced they will receive revenue. I have to disagree about us not having creative directors because guess what, we do. The problem is they also believe that the only thing that will meet “our” demands is coons on stage, or another movie where we are portrayed as victims (Precious, The Notorious Movie, Tupac Resurrected, etc). Now, Zion, you have made smart, smart comments, as a matter of fact it is a breath of fresh air to read someone forcing blacks to evaluate who they support for a change even if its someone who belongs to the same race. After your comment I have read the same tired key words, haters, lighten up, crabs, you know all those terms that shut down real dialogue because they honestly do not have the answer except that they (black consumers) are willing to sacrifice their self-respect in the name of supporting someone else who happens to be black. Look at music (Rihanna, Beyonce), how many people support them simply becuase they are people of color without question? Thank you for speaking the truth. Our people are a hard pull, but hey with your help and Judah’s we’ll get there.
Nahla Aubrey (Halle’s daughter) is just adoreable. It reminds me what a dumb ass Eric Benet was for cheating so badly all over the place on Halle. I’m glad she finally found happiness with the ultra fine Gabriel Aubrey. I hope they have another baby too & that Halle stops being scared because of her past & gets married. That man wants to marry her so badly & he really loves her.
As for Eric I guess Prince really broke his ex in and got her ready for Eric, but she’ll soon learn he’s still a cheat. She should have stayed with Prince (he didn’t want the divorce) but she was nothing more than a gold digger.
I’m going to go see it.
