Fans don’t have to wait until this summer to check out new music from Kelis when her fifth album, Flesh Tone, will be released. DJ Replay from FreeSchool (the production team that’s been working closely with her on the new album) has released a mixtape, DJ Replay presents Queen of Hearts: Off with their Heads – Kelis: Flesh Tone Mixtape.
It includes snippets of four new tracks from Flesh Tone: “4th of July”, “Home”, “Scream” and “22nd Century”, in addition to remixes of some of her greatest hits.

This girl was dropped from her record label due to failed albums and singles.
She only had a mediocre uproar with her single “Milkshake” but nothing else successful afterward.
And now she’s trying this ‘DIFFERENT” thing when all along she was always “DIFFERENT” but just kicked it up a notch whereas beyond weird but more so creepy..

Someone mentioned Whitney, and the old Mariah (cause Mariah been wack since she stopped singin and started stripping) no comparison with Kelis. Kelis has an alternative style then many try to duplicate, but at the end of the day her vocals arent official..Period. There is no comparison on any level musically.
The Mixtape is pretty good. I see they are def trying to promo this project the correct way. I think its good she branched up with Will I AM someone who appericates this music…. I never been the huge fan of House/Electronic music but its def a nice sound for Kelis. I been supporting her since day one. People fail to realized that this is her 5th album thats about to drop. During 10 years she has had a career working with many folks and not going anywhere. She has always done her and will continue to. Either you like her or you dont!!! hmmm…I’m a Kelis fan but I’m just really not into electronic music and that is her new sound. I just feel like she has been trying really hard to prove some point lately & I’m not sure what that point is. The mixtape was just ok to me, I’d prefer to just listen to Tasty or Kaleidoscope. *kanye shrug*

If you were to bother checking for Kelis, you’d realise she was making your faves redundant back in 1999 with her debut single ‘Caught Out There’. All the songs on this Mixtape, bar two, are Kelis’ own tracks – singles she has released over a successful 10 year career worldwide. She may only have had two top 20 Billboard hits in the US, but she’s had a multitude of platinum selling singles elsewhere and will continue to do so for a while yet.
Kelis has never had a strong backing from any label – Virgin/Star Trak never supported her choices in music, and her second LP was shelved because it was too ahead of its time and the label feared people wouldn’t ‘get it’. She would of followed up ‘Milkshake’ with another hit from the ‘Tasty’ album, but Arista folded shortly after Milkshake was released thus leaving Kelis without any further options. Then she was moved onto ‘Jive’ with an array of other people from Arista – Jive was a label which didn’t like to promote Kelis, nor allow her to have much control over her 4th album (listen to the song ‘Circus’). She was very loud and voiced her frustration on BET about her crappy label and then fought to leave until eventually Jive dropped her.
Yes, 10 years in the game and two platinum hits in the US isn’t the best track record, but Kelis hasn’t had the chance that others have due to musical politics. I’m so happy she’s finally been given her opportunity with Will.I.Am/Interscope and I’ve never seen her promote so much before an album drops.

I must admit I really do like Acapella,can’t get that song out of my head.I haven’t copped anything of hers since her first album but I did hear most of Kelis was here and it was fire.I just hope she keep making music for those who like her sound because her style is different and fun to me.I like how she’s not afraid to do what she wants regardless of whether people get it or not.
