‘ROUND THE WAY: DRAKE ALREADY WORKING ON 2ND VIDEO + HE DIDN’T RECORD W/ OLIVIA

April 13th, 2010

Although he just released his video for “Over”, Drake is already at work in Jamaica filming the video for his second single from his upcoming debut.

No official word on what the second single will be, but our money is on “Shut It Down” ft. The-Dream; but we’ll have to see.

In related news, Drake released a statement about that new Olivia “Control” song that has been circulating the web.

I support artist collaborations and sampling music that inspires you but I don’t support taking unauthorized recordings and marketing them as features. I’ve never worked with Olivia and I apologize to any fan who was duped into thinking that Control was a collaboration of mine.

Olivia was wrong for that mess! Anyway, Drake will be in his home country Canada this week for the Annual Juno awards where he is nominated for 4 awards.

I’m not surprised Olivia’s camp did that. I won’t say SHE did it, because I’m sure someone else thought it was a good idea and was behind it. I mean seriously, who is checkin for Olivia? NOBODY. Like I said in the “Control” post, there is nothing stand-out or special about her, and that’s just the honest truth.

I can’t wait for DRAKE’S album! Dude is becoming my favorite rapper.

This guy is being a bit overexposed now. I’m tired of him and his brand of music already.

Looking up now I c others feel the same way. His album not out yet and I’m so sick of him already. Go away!

Luda is right behind. I’m near sick of him 2.

No disrespect to Olivia, because I’ve actually always been a fan of hers since her 2001 debut, but there was no way in hell that she could’ve worked with an artist like Drake. He is one of the most in-demand artists right now, so when I saw that collaboration on this site the other day I kinda thought it was fishy. I bet his label charges a lot for him to appear on artists songs, and I know Olivia nor her label wouldn’t be willing to fork over the money for that.

I don’t see how Olivia would not have known that verses from an old Drake song were put on her song so I don’t know why people on here are thinking that. She and every other artist is able to hear their mastered tracks when they are finished. That’s very sneaky of her and the producer to do something like that. How pathetic? Olivia, nobody gives a rat’s you know what about you and this business is not for you so why try to add hype around you by using someone else’s buzz? What a loser.

I don’t care too much for Drake, but I am impressed with his hustle in the music game. I can’t believe that pop stations are playing “Over.“ It’s extremely urban and sounds like an underground hip-hop song that even R&B/Hip-Hop stations wouldn’t play.

Drake just mad Olivia’s single is hotter than his new one. He’s a mixtape artist. How’s he going to get made at somebody putting his verses with theirs without him knowing it. The only reason we know who he is is because for years he did the exact same thing!!!!

I was wondering why Drake would do a song with Olivia ..
Did she think she was going to get away with it? That Drake was just going to say “hey I’ve heard your new song – I love how you added my part. Great job!”

I didn’t even know the Juno’s were this weekend.
Don’t even think I’ll watch it – the Juno’s are usually boringgg.

sad to say it but when i saw that post I thought to myself why olivia it really did look fishy and thats sad to say but it didnt seem right. Poor Olivia, but this industry is very very harsh these fans and radio people and media in general will shut u down in a quick second its not like when tlc, brandy, monica and them back in the day all of them could make music and it was a hip hop r&b movement now its just top people and then everyone else who dont get a second look u have to go above and beyond even if the song is hot the way people are now a days they still wont support it. Music is not the same I wish it was like back in the days wen monica brandy tlc changing faces all them people were out that was real music and not too much competition now its just crap with a lot of crappy people the world is changing for the worst each day

    Statement

On behalf of Souled Out Records
    Record: Olivia “Control”, featuring Drake

Drake’s performance on Olivia’s “Control” was paid for by Souled Out Records. Souled Out Records approached the then up-and-coming artist in 2007 in recognition of his talent.

Souled Out Records is shocked to hear that Drake has not authorized Souled Out Records to use his recorded performance, as the service was already paid-for. Olivia’s contribution, through Dollaz Unlimited, elevated the reach of the record and was a win-win situation for Dollaz Unlimited, Souled Out Records and DJ Finesse. Souled Out Records contacted Drake via email and telephone, on several occasions, unsuccessfully.

Dj Special K & Dj Finesse Present: Olivia’s “Control” featuring Drake record was not intended for an album release.
