For the past couple of weeks rapper Lil Kim has been taking shots at popular rapper Nicki Minaj. She sat down with Thisis50.com earlier this week and spoke in detail about her beef with Nicki.
“For the last year she has been subliminally taken shots at me. Subliminally taken shots at the other girls in the industry. I mean come on, we read that interview where she said “Being that the other rap chicks in the game ain’t got sh*t to do right now, when I’m by the pool they can feed me grapes”. I remember that sh*t, I keep my ears to the street at all the time. Just because I do my Hollywood thing and you know my Malibu Barbie thing don’t mean my ear isn’t to the streets at all time. The last thing she did that was very subliminal “Did I kill the Queen?” and Puffy sitting right next to her riding with that bullsh*t?” Come on! We ain’t stupid. Let’s go all the way back when when she first came out and was doing all of my songs over. There was certain interviews that she was doing and my fans got upset because she was busting shots at me. Actually she was throwing pebbles. It was nothing. I was blowing them out my face like flies. She said some sh*t on twitter like “Oh f*ck all you Lil Kim fans. Nicki Minaj is the sh*t right now”. I still let that ride..

So a little while goes by, I see her at the Lil Wayne concert and I show her love. She sitting here saying she showed me love, I showed her love. She reciprocated it but it was a little war on her behalf. A little obnoxious but whatever. Now from that time on right, I would go on the internet and see little pebbles thrown my way. Anybody that’s in the hip hop industry, we know how this game goes. We know the sh*t she was saying was subliminal, we know it’s a competitive sport and little people are going to try to claim their spot.

A lot of people these days are very insecure about their legacy because they feel that others can do it better. Take Grace Jones and Lady Gaga. GJ was upset because she felt Lady Gaga did what she does better than her. Kim is the same way. Did you ever see Michael Jackson call Chris Brown and Usher swagger jackers and get mad at them? No because he knew they could never hold a candle to him and he liked that they were paying homage. The only reason these newer artists get smart with the ones that came before them is because a lot of the older ones are ignorant and do not know how to gracefully bow out and let their music speak to the younger artists coming up. I haven’t seen Lady Gaga give credit to or praise anyone else after GJ dissed her. So Kim needs to stop and go have a seat because I have seen Nicki Minaj praise her but you gotta watch your back to because these ppl will diss you for giving homage.

This is comical, but I see both sides. Every new jack has their season. Right now it’s YOUNG MONEY’s ie MINAJ and DRAKE’s season. It’s evident that Nicki gets alot of her swagger from female rappers like Kim and Foxy that preceeded her. Imitation is the biggest form of flattery. However, one should not get cocky as if you’ve conquered the world when you don’t have ONE album on the shelf yet. When Lil Kim and FOxy came out, all they need was ONE single and you knew right away. “THESE SOME BAD BITCHES!” Massive Attack, Nicky Minaj’s 1st official single for all pretense and purposes was a FLOP because it didn’t make any impact on the charts. That’s factual. ‘No time’ by Kim and “Get me home” 1st single by Kim and Foxy respectively were BANGERS right out the gate… FOr the NEWJACKS, check BILLBOARD for the stats. So you do have to give credit where credit is due. The FEMCEES that kicked the door in should be respected for their work, because if it wasnt for them, there would be no NEWJACKS, ie NICKI MINAJ. Shout out mos def go to FOxy, Kim, Eve, Trina, Lyte, Queen Latifah, Salt & Pepa and the rest that made this possible for Nicki. Minaj mos def swagger jacked alotta these female styles, but thats how music goes. People get inspired by what they have heard and seen before. No one is as ORIGINAL as they think in their own minds. Kim did her thing in her HEYDAY. Foxy did her thing, in her season, and so on and so forth. There is no need for a beef because the veterans should be above all of that at this stage in the game. Feelings do get hurt, i imagine, but take that on the chin and do you. The wisdom of your experience far outweighs any little buzz a newjack has now. Don’t be threatened. MAKE GOOD MUSIC and REMIND your fans why you femcees got the respective titles you have in the game. Not a stan on any of these femcees , but I am a FAN of good music. Just make it and let the beefs fall to the gutter. And for all those putting a CROWN on a new jacks’s head. Let the chick be GREAT first then crown her. No album sales have been tabulated yet, to my knowledge. SO hold off on the coronation ceremony before Nicki has put in her work and can wear the crown that’s been EARNED, not GIVEN.
