My brother was to marry a light-skinned Puerto Rican woman and her family didn’t like it. In fact they went off on her telling her not to marry a dark Puerto Rican because her children would be dark and have nappy hair. yet my sister-in-law had slaves in her family tree too because I went back home to Loiza, Puerto Rico and met them. There is so much self-hate based on color in the Puerto Rican community it’s bananas.
