Do you remember the artist formerly known as Kevin Michael? Well, he’s back, with a new band, entitled THEY with a brand new track entitled, “Areola.”
Kevin, who now refers to himself only as K, alongside THEY and B. Kidd produced this new sound that he’s going for.
THEY will follow K through his futuristic journey, Looking For L.I.S.A., in which they recorded their album as if it were the years 1980-1989, with influences like David Bowie, Queen, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Prince and Cameo, to name a few.
That joint is hot.

this is actually the kind of music he was doing but atlantic made him put out earthy/neosoul records. definitely not a sound he’s doing JUST because it’s in. “liquid lava love” off of his first album should prove that.
I like it, sounds like Passion Pit, especially the lyrics how he pauses between what would logically be the nasty word to rhyme with from the last line for something that isn’t nasty and doesn’t rhyme at all.

I love, love, LOVE how this new generation is coming out more aggressive and exploring sexuality, like the 80′s but revamped!
As far as the song, I’m hearing a lot of Prince influences, obviously, which is appropriate since he basically passed the torch to the new generation coming up now. I also like what @Margovox is doing with her sound as well (very 80′s).
I know a lot of people are going to say that this has been done before this and that but I think we need to continuously pay homage to history because it keeps the energy going you know?
Anyway, like some previously said I can hear this on the radio most definitely and can’t wait for new material from K; I liked his old material as well but you know what? This is a new phase for him and I totally support his decisions henceforth.

Wow…this completely different from the song he did with Lupe Fiasco a few yrs ago…sounds like he has been influenced more by Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga than Prince. Prince was way more soulful/funky with this type of song.
I think it sounds like a revamped Prince, something he would be doing now if he was K’s age range now..And remember Adam is also influenced by Prince, among others. If anything we can definitely agree that it is a bit progressive than Prince’s work..

I dunno. I’m all for fresh sound, but this is lacking. At least Prince had that funky gutsy soul in his voice. This would be cool as a demo.
