Earlier this week, there were rumors going around the industry that Alicia Keys fired her whole management staff and Jeff Robinson of MBK Entertainment Inc. (the man who has managed Alicia since her teenage years) has released an official statement saying they have only “modified the structure of their business relationship.”
The official press release goes into detail:
Jeff Robinson, CEO of MBK Entertainment Inc., and 12 Time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys have decided to modify the structure of their business relationship. Robinson and Keys will continue to collaborate on future albums together through MBK/J Records while Alicia will oversee other aspects of her career.
MBK Entertainment Inc. has been the management firm for Alicia Keys since she was a teenager-guiding all aspects of her career, including world renowned multi platinum award winning album, films, and branding opportunities. Keys and Robinson have mutually and amicably agreed to pursue other opportunities.
This decision will allow Alicia more control over all aspects of her career from singing and songwriting, to leading many business ventures and social causes. Keys’ company, AK Worldwide, will now have responsibility and oversight for Alicia’s touring, endorsements, sponsorships, licensing, new business development, television and film ventures.
MBK, a multifaceted entertainment company with a film, television, publishing and independent marketing divisions, will continue to focus on developing the careers of new, young talented artists such as Elle Varner and Gabi Wilson, who are both signed to MBK Entertainment. The company will also delve deeper into the gospel music format with their newly formed Glory to Glory Records.
Keys and Robinson have mutually and amicably agreed to pursue other opportunities.
Alicia, who took a fall a couple of weeks ago during the Essence Music Festival, is currently pregnant with her first child by producer Swizz Beatz.
Alicia has been doing some messed up things since she started messing with Swizz Beatz. Hope it was worth is A.Keys. Most of your fan base hates you and now you are changing management too. Over her.

I’m pretty sure this was more A.Keys decision than his. But artists leave their managers all the time, for different reasons. Managers may get complacent, and artists begin to feel like they should be getting more for how much money their managers are receiving.

@52 – Technically, Alicia conceived, the baby out of wedlock. She hasn’t had the baby yet. So, there’s still time for her and Swizz to get married if they so choose. I’m not an Alicia stan or anything, but I don’t like the holier than though attitude that people throw around when an unmarried woman gets pregnant. Marriage makes a relationship legally binding, but it neither forces people to adhere to vows nor does it mean that the relationship will have a stronger foundation. The foundation of the relationship is set long before rings are exchanged. If they conceived their child within the confines of a strong relationship and both of them are committed to being good parents, then the child will be fine. On the other hand, there are many children with married parents who suffer because their parents’ relationship is so dysfunctional.
Anyway, I can’t speak on Alicia’s biz with her manager. I’ve never been a super fan of hers but I think she’s good for the industry and I hope she sticks around.

I do not agree that their child was conceived when their relationship was strong. I think their relationship was full of lies and deceit, which does not make a strong relationship at all. Since when they started their relationship they were sneaking around, lying to the public and everyone else, and straight of committing adultery. Does that make a strong relationship? I highly doubt it. Just because two people feel they are in love doesn’t make their decisions right. There is a right way to do things and a wrong way. They did it the wrong way by most people’s standards.
In the future, the both of them will have trust issues because of how they started their relationship. Just because they have a baby, and get married, it wont erase their start. And the minute a phone call isn’t answered promptly by the other, or one of them stay out 2 minutes later than usual, the start of the relationship will come to mind….Their relationship doesn’t have a snowballs chance in a so-called burning hell.
