The only thing remotely interesting about this video is the unexpected juxtaposition of such an uptempo song with such a subdued video. I still hate it though. No ma’am! That’s simple. She removed her top at the beginning of the video and just before she teared-up, she glanced down and saw her boobs which reminded her that she’s still a woman fighting a “Cold War” to become a little boy. Watch her at 2:28 when she looks down and the crying starts.
It’s interesting that this single premieres at the same time that Prop. 8 is being battled from the vote of the people in California; to the ruling by a single judge; to the court of appeals; and eventually, back to the people. But, Janelle’s right about one thing, “you better know what you’re fighting for”, because those who want Prop 8 overturned have a hidden agenda like the illuminati whisperers who frequent CL. I shouldn’t mention any names…but it’s just like when “Judah” had a hidden agenda and he sold the Lord out for 30 filthy pieces of silver…!
Janelle is a very emotional and comsumed young lady. She will soon reveal herself, because it’s eating her up inside. Doing the James Brown and trying to imitate Prince can only last for so long. She starting to crack like D’angelo when he blew up to 290 lbs.

I think Janelle Monae is very talented, however I have read some of her interviews and she comes off as being very narcissistic at times. She made a statement saying her body was beautiful and she didn’t want it to distract from her music. She also chose not to do a cover with I believe Teyanna Taylor. Like I said I’m not taking anything away from the woman she is extremely talented, but it seems like she is trying to prove she is above the average r&b singer or musician. Let your talent speak for itself that’s all I’m saying. But good video and great song.

I love the song from the album…the video? not so much only because i can’t take looking at a person for 4 minutes straight, but I do like when she felt her own words and it brought those emotions. that was nice. and the take one in the beginning made me think this was supposed to be a layered video.
