9 years ago today (August 25th), Aaliyah Dana Haughton, Anthony Dodd, Eric Foreman, Scott Gallin, Keeth Wallace, Gina Smith, Douglas Kratz, Christopher Maldonado, and Luis Morales died tragically in a plane crash that shocked everyone. At the time of the tragic accident, Aaliyah was just 22 years-old.

IT’S STILL CRAZY THAT IT’S BEEN ALMOST A DECADE. I STILL REMEMBER WHEN IT WAS THE FIRST YEAR. I THINK WE AS MUSIC LOVERS AND FANS COULD DO ALOT BETTER WITH THE “TRIBUTES” AND I USE THAT TERM LOOSELY. SHE HAD NATURAL BEAUTY AND NATURAL TALENT AND LET THE SEXY JUST COME NATURALLY. NOTHING ABOUT THIS ANGEL WAS FORCED LIKE IT IS NOW IN THE INDUSTRY. SHE WAS REAL MUSIC, REAL R&B, AND REAL TALENT. I THINK THAT IF PEOPLE GO BACK THEY’LL SEE THAT AALIYAH, MONICA, AND BRANDY PRETTY MUCH RAN IT BACK IN THE DAY. SHE ALWAYS HAD HER OWN LANE IN MY EYES. HER LAST ALBUM WAS SO AHEAD OF IT’S TIME AND THE VIDEOS FROM IT ARE STILL BEING RECREATED TODAY IF YOU LOOK AT LADY GAGA, RIHANNA, AND BEYONCE. YEAH THOSE ARE THE BIGGEST NAMES OF TODAY BUT JUST THINK OF HOW AALIYAH HAD TO DO NOTHING TO GET TO WHERE THEY ARE BUT BE HERSELF. IMAGINE THE GAME TODAY IF SHE WAS STILL HERE….HALF OF THESE GIRLS WOULDN’T BE KNOWN. BY THE WAY CIARA IS NOT THE NEXT AALIYAH BECAUSE AALIYAH COULD SING. 9 years..it just doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. I always get depressed when I see her MTV: Diary episode. She’s still is one of my favorite R&B artists. No one can ever compare to the incomparable Aaliyah Dana Haughton..a beautiful sould indeed =)

I would have to say my favorite artist EVER…such a sweet and talented woman….She was definitely in a league on her own! No one will ever amount to her…just a true angel! I remember when I first seen the video “Are You That Somebody”…I memorized the dance and used to do it with the video! I love and miss you Aailyah….may she rest in peace!!!

Thanks CL for this post. I always remember her on this day & its great to see others doing it as well. It’s crazy that it has been 9 years already. I can remember the exact moment I heard about the crash, I could not believe it. Just thinking about how great she would be right now kinda makes me sad. GOD bless her family & loved ones & the fam of the other victims, on this sad day.
