In a recent interview with VH1′s Behind the Music, Fantasia recalled the day of her ‘aspirin and sleep aid’ overdose and admitted that it was indeed a deliberate suicide attempt:
On suicide attempt:
“I didn’t have any fight in me. I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out. At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with – all of it, all of that [expletive]. I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew exactly what I was doing. You can’t accidentally take a whole bottle of pills.On her relationship with Antwaun Cook:
“When I met him, he was separated … wasn’t living in his home. He didn’t want to be back with his wife – that is what I was told,” Barrino says. “I remember waking up in the hospital [and thinking], ‘It didn’t work, I’m still here in this hellhole. Still here with all this drama going on.’”Her manager, Brian Dickens’ recollection of the events:
“Her emotions were extremely low,” he says. “She’d been crying all day. Fantasia was just numb. Fantasia texted me, saying ‘I love you.’ I wrote back, ‘I love you more.’ Then it hit me. I wrote, ‘You better not do anything or think about doing anything stupid.’ And I left it at that. About 10 minutes later, Fantasia texted me back, and she said, ‘Already did.’ I went into Fantasia’s room and saw her on the floor, and my heart just dropped.”
On how she was feeling about her current situation:
“I was tired of people doing me wrong, constantly, over and over again, dealing with my family – my father, dealing with men and their [expletive] – I was tired. My head was hurting me. I was over it.”On what she learned from her nurse:
“My nurse Melanie was a blessing into my life because she didn’t tell me what I wanted to hear,” she says. “She told me what I needed to hear. And she looked at me and said, ‘You gotta get up, and you’ve gotta get out of here, ’cause you haven’t fulfilled your destiny. I realized how people end up in the grave. Because that one moment [snaps her fingers] of just breaking or feeling like I can’t, I can’t go on, it’s too heavy. That was somewhere I don’t ever want to go again.”

No Fantasia, the hellhole is where you were headed if you would have taken your own life. Suicide is the most ungrateful thing you can do to God’s saving grace. He gives us abundant life and the suicide victim says, here’s the abundant life back…I don’t want it.
Glad she’s okay for now, but her state of mind is very fragile. I wonder what her drug and alcohol consumptions is like? She should be locked up a while for observation.

I wont go as far as saying it was a publicity stunt, but some folx attempt suicide when they simply want pain to go away. Theres other ways to get past hard times. This morning I heard her on the Steve Harvey morning show. I missed most of the interview. I got the tail end of it. I’m sure if we go to wbls.com they would have exerpts. Her album do drop 3morrow and she performs on Good Morning America (GMA) tomorrow Tuesday. She got real good advice from Steve Harvey although I cant stand his azz. Too overbearing and think he so all that.

if you have never attempted suicide then you have no idea what someone is feeling at that moment. i have attempted suicide in the past and right after i took those pills i regretted it. when i took the pills i wanted to die but i had a change of heart. i know what it feels like to have so much pain that life doesn’t even seem worth living anymore.

Part of me feels so sad for her. The other part of me cannot sympathize the stupidity and selfishness of attempting suicide. however it is not my life or any of ours so I can only pray she gets it together. I will not let her personal life influence what entertains me so I will be buying the album because I need another good r&b album.

Why didn’t her record co. and mgmt. delay the release of her album? The girl tried to commit suicide just a couple of weeks ago! Is she mentally stable to handle the release of an album? Errrm just because you tried to kill yourself and sadly lost your brother to suicide (R.I.P) it DOES NOT make you some type of scientist, even IF that was happening inside your body (which i’m sure you don’t know for sure if it was) it doesn’t mean that the same thing happens to everybody else attempting to commit suicide, for example Fantasia. Its just not a one size fits all kind of thing.

A rational person would think of her family, especially the daughter she loves. A rational person knows that God gives us the will to live and survive. What you call her “low point” is a part of life and Fantasia knows it.
You both made good points about what a suicide person is really thinking. But, most people on CL are not qualified to diagnose or treat mental disorders like suicide, so as believers, we offer hope. We do know that weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. She even said herself that those simple words from the nurse Melanie helped her to snap back from a bad place. Fulfilling her destiny.
So yes, we will preach God, her daughter and her destiny if it will cause her to stay in the here and now. If we sound irrational to you, its because we’re dealing with an irrational situation. If we call her selfish, its because the victim doesn’t stop to think about all the people who cares about them…only themself. We owe it to each other to cling to life with every once of fight in us.
Suicide is a very serious matter. Even if it was drama or a publicity stunt, it has to be documented and monitored. And, if she ever hits her “low point” again, she’ll be reminded of her daughter, God and her destiny. Hopefully, that’s enough to snap her out of it without her handlers, the nurse or CL.

My situation made me want to know more about it… So with that being said… I do know what I speak of.. And until you your self are in the same or similar situation it would behoove you to check your facts clear. And yes there is a chemical imbalance that happens…. Look up the stages of suicide ….

I like Fantasia and I am not her judge, so what I would like to do right now is just send her some love, strength and peace of mind.
