In a recent interview with VH1′s Behind the Music, Fantasia recalled the day of her ‘aspirin and sleep aid’ overdose and admitted that it was indeed a deliberate suicide attempt:
On suicide attempt:
“I didn’t have any fight in me. I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out. At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with – all of it, all of that [expletive]. I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew exactly what I was doing. You can’t accidentally take a whole bottle of pills.On her relationship with Antwaun Cook:
“When I met him, he was separated … wasn’t living in his home. He didn’t want to be back with his wife – that is what I was told,” Barrino says. “I remember waking up in the hospital [and thinking], ‘It didn’t work, I’m still here in this hellhole. Still here with all this drama going on.’”Her manager, Brian Dickens’ recollection of the events:
“Her emotions were extremely low,” he says. “She’d been crying all day. Fantasia was just numb. Fantasia texted me, saying ‘I love you.’ I wrote back, ‘I love you more.’ Then it hit me. I wrote, ‘You better not do anything or think about doing anything stupid.’ And I left it at that. About 10 minutes later, Fantasia texted me back, and she said, ‘Already did.’ I went into Fantasia’s room and saw her on the floor, and my heart just dropped.”
On how she was feeling about her current situation:
“I was tired of people doing me wrong, constantly, over and over again, dealing with my family – my father, dealing with men and their [expletive] – I was tired. My head was hurting me. I was over it.”On what she learned from her nurse:
“My nurse Melanie was a blessing into my life because she didn’t tell me what I wanted to hear,” she says. “She told me what I needed to hear. And she looked at me and said, ‘You gotta get up, and you’ve gotta get out of here, ’cause you haven’t fulfilled your destiny. I realized how people end up in the grave. Because that one moment [snaps her fingers] of just breaking or feeling like I can’t, I can’t go on, it’s too heavy. That was somewhere I don’t ever want to go again.”

I disagree if you think that suicide victims are the only ones who understand Fantasia or others attempters. Why do you think we call it selfish? Anyone who’s ever been drunk and past-out knows what a suicide victim’s experience is like. People get food poisoning all the time and have to get their stomachs pumped. So, don’t go thinking you’re special cause you did that cowardous think.
Sorry, but you don’t have the market cornered on mental illness. lol! Get outta here with that. You want to think that your pain and hurt is worst than everyones, but you need to read the book of Job. Y’all are just too fragile with that love sick drama. She finds out that the wife is gonna sue her and she flips! People in the south sleep around all the time. They just take the bible off the dash board and put it in the trunk for while. The north, east and west are even worst. But wait, there’s more to this story, not just a case of husband-lawsuit.
You don’t have to cheat, lie or steal to understand that its wrong. And, everyone knows that its wrong to take a life…even your own. I suspect that alcohol played a big role in Fantasia’s new life. She glorified the drank on her show. Neo said it best, “Im so Sick”.
You don’t need experience anymore than Montana did to cut her first film. A baby can learn to cuss and a poor girl can spend money. “Lotta money”. Like Prince said, “You don’t have to watch Dynasty, to have an attitude”.
i’m not passing Judgment on her, because not i or anyone else can, but in my opinion the chick is selfess, sorry but she’s pissing me off, you were ready to kill yourself and put your young daughter through some shit like that! HOW FUCKING DARE YOU, especially over a man nobody told you to fuck in the first place, i know you were probably all excited that a nice looking light-skinned man wanted you but come on sister, and then with all this publicity it’s sickening, days after you get out the hospital your taping a reunion with him in the park, and now you got a behind the music coming out? girl please i hope this wasn’t for publicity to sell a CD cause if this album don’t sell, what are you going to do next time to get attention?

I know she has talk to her daughter and family and God has brought her though.
I don’t think it was about a man it was just the girl has been though a lot and it just came crushing down on her at once. Look how people did Jesus, We as human can be off the chain when it come to others problems I know this girl got talent from God and he isn’t finish with her yet.
I can’t believe some ppl are so insensitive, this reminds me of what happened to Michael Jackson, when it was first reported that he had overdosed Perez Hilton, i think, said it was a publicity stunt. If he had survived many ppl probably would have come to that conclusion. When ppl are depressed and suicidal they give signals to those close to them, sadly some ppl do not catch on. Also, when most women attempt to commit suicide they usually use pills because it is not as drastic as other methods. I know someone who was about to commit suicide, and they had children, they believed the children would be better off without them, they thought their family members would do a better job taking care of their children. So please do not be judgemental, it doesn’t help matters.

Somebody that REALLY “wanted out” wouldnt have sent out a text message that would make someone suspicious. This whole situation, her seaking on it & performing only a week later & having a “private moment” with dude on her “reality” show…..AND her cd is abt to drop?….suspect ish going on
I pray she gets her life together whether this is a PR stunt or not cuz either way its not a good situation.

she may be rich, but she doesn’t have anyone Real in her Corner.. on her reality show everyone has their hand out gimme gimme gimme. really how much can you take, she needs to learn who she really is .

Its her life she can do as she pleases but dont tell someone they should have sympathy for someone who cant handle the married man she was fooling around with going back to his wife and so she decided to kill herself basically abandoning her child and but is now out in the clubs shaking here tail.
I wanna know where is child family services because that child should be removed from her custody and placed with someone has thats childs best interests at heart. She should not be allowed anywhere near that child until she gets herself some help because there are consequences for your actions whether you live or die .
What most ppl dont get is she has no control over the release date of her album.. Duh! That is the label doing… The show Im sure she has some imput but she may have tried to clear the air… and they wanted it on the show.. Of course the label will say any publicity is good publicity.. She needs ppl around her that will help and not cater to her every whim… But everybody is so damn deep and they know it all…. But i know for a fact that if we held a mirror to your lives we find some shit you’d like to hide…
I always say the same rules you use to judge another one day you will face the same ones and let’s see how well you stand up against it…
I hope she gets the help she needs and not just “churching” it away…

Praying for the sister. Separated or not, happy or not, he was still legally married. Not a good look however you try to justify it. But what’s done is done. What’s important now is that she gets the help that she desperately needs. I don’t know if having an album out and having to promote it is best for her right after attempting to commit suicide, but only she knows. Maybe she needs to be distracted a little or maybe she needs to receive extensive counseling. Only she knows. Wish her the best. I wonder what her daughter feels/thinks about all of this.

uh yeh i STILL stand by what i said earlier lol smh Everybody is an INDIVDUAL so no you do not know exactly what Fantasia or anybody else for that matter was/is thinking when they attempt suuicide and you trying to convince me that you do is a joke, just leave it alone. You also have know idea what i’ve seen or been through in my life, nor will you as i’m not the type to air my buisness on the internet…so this comment “And until you your self are in the same or similar situation it would behoove you to check your facts clear.” is ridiculous.
It’s very funny the same people that were supporting Fantasia when she was at the top of her career and pleasing everybody, walk away the minute trouble comes in her life and wont support her. You are honestly not a true fan of hers, the music speaks for itself, regardless of her personal life. I will continue to support her because she, just like the rest of us struggle from day to day to please everybody.

4. You have already eluded to the fact that you either have been in the situation or close to it, baffles the mind… But I do understand compassion is learned not earned….
