Fantasia Barrino appeared on Good Morning America Tuesday in her first live sit-down interview, two weeks to the day she attempted suicide by overdosing on aspirin and sleep medication.
Barrino told GMA’s Robin Roberts of her August 10 suicide attempt:
“I was just overloaded, for six years I’ve been carrying so much… I always take a lickin’ and keep on tickin. It just became heavy for me, so I just wanted to be away from the noise. I just began to grow tired of taking so many licks.”
She also performed “Bittersweet” from the new album, which is in stores now. The videos are below…

I’m so done with this chick…she just milking this shit for all its worth. Suicide is a coward move. No respect for that, especially over a dude. I hope that album goes wood like the rest of her joints. The nerve of this chick to make a song called “Lucky” braggin about being the other woman. I know she can barely read, but that don’t mean that the public don’t read between the lines of what she does.

Dude where is the support for a hurting sister. She is going through some things. All this beat down yall are giving is what she hears times 10. Now put yourself in her shoes and tell me how you would take it. Fantasia all I can say is you got a daughter to live for and nothing should be that strong to want you to take your live away from your child and make her life bad. That little time span where you felt you could not handle life is not worth a life time of pain for a child that YOU brought into this world. Be smarter. Use your head and call a friend when you think like that. Dont call them after the damage has been done. Before I even talk about the Interview, her performance was amazing. She’s one of the best vocalist out today.
Now the Interview really made me love her even more. From the way she was speaking you can tell she just wanted to get everything off her chest, it kind of poured out all at the same time…but she did it in a way that made you Understand all the hurt that she had endured over her entire life, not only this recent incident. I have much respect for her as a human being, not just an artist are listening to her. Her new album is amazing, and so is she.

Well, first of all, she didn’t attempt to commit suicide over a man, it also had something to do with all of the drama she gets from her family; her family is always nagging her to bring home the money, and they only depend on her. So, yes it was a dumb & inconsiderate move to try and commit suicide just b/c she couldn’t handle the pressure her fam was giving her and the married boyfriend. She should have embarrassed herself like that…she should have prayed, fast, and prayed….and got away physically like on a vacation or something.
And to top it off, she put herself in that married man situation b/c she should have known better not to believe a man when he says him & his WIFE are separated…she should have waited until he was DIVORCED or just moved along to the next. But, I hope she’ll get through this.

Love is a powerful emotion it can truly break you and until you experience true heartbreak there is really no compassion towards others… granted no one should be worth your own life but don’t judge someone if you haven’t walked in there shoes..

I think this interview cleared up a few things. People are going to say what they want (I did at first) but we never know how heavy one’s heart may be. Lets just pray she gets a good support system from here on out!! I’ll be purchasing the CD later today!

When a person gets to the point of attempting suicide they are not thinking about their family or children obviously. The fact that she wanted to end her life should tell you that she isn’t thinking rationally so why would you expect her to think of her daughter at her lowest point? If you haven’t been there before then you can’t speak about it. It has nothing to do with being selfish. It has to do with hurt, despair, and desperation. As we get closer to the holiday season you will hear about more and more people going into that state of mind. It effects everyone in different ways. I’m just glad that Fantasia is here to see another day. She was spared for a reason. My prayers are with her because she will need all the prayers she can get. People will not make this easy for her while she is still trying to recover.

Now I do not think this is a publicity stunt and feel as though not everyone is strong enough mentally to take on all of what the media and people like you can throw at them. Same with someone from the black community becoming successful despite where they came from and then saying if I can do it you can too! NO..it’s easy to say that but everyone is not that strong..not that driven…some of us need HELP and Fantasia needs help!
Her family needs to be kicked to the curb for not being that foundation she needs to be grounded. She needs support because she is clearly not strong enough yet. As for what she did yes she is wrong dead wrong…but hopefully she will learn from this.

I can’t see someone one taking pills, risking a “stunt” not working. I believe her, especially after having seen her show. I think however until she’s able to see herself as part of the equation (don’t support your entire family, don’t date a married man separated or not, don’t allow someone else cause you to drop out of school etc. ) than she may find herself constantly battling with things that others would get over easier.
I can totally relate to how she feels tho it ‘s like you have something tramatic happen to you and the 1st time you can say okay this happened to me, after awhile you begin to question if it’s something wrong with you OR if there just isn’t any good meant for you. It’s nto all that uncommon and comments around the net alone shows a small peek into what she deals with as an artist, let alone the full picture so yeah I don’t think this was a stunt at all.

Did you guys see her show? Did you see how much her family mooches off her, she was basically taking care of all them, including her OLDER brother. She doesn’t seem to be to business smart so I’m sure many people took advantage of her and took her money. She’s been through a lot and it seems pretty harsh to judge her like that.

This is a beautiful and very talented woman who has not only been through some things but this woman is still very much struggling with pain. I will keep you in prayers Tasia. I only suspect that this speedy recovery is not ONLY because she wants to do damage control but I bet there is added pressure from VH1 and her record label (Shame on them) to promote the album and the show. I truly hope that she has had the proper time to heal so that whatever issues and pressures that caused her the feeling of taking her life do not resurface.
