How do you judge your style’s evolution? Does it match with your artistic & musical evolution?
From 17 to until maybe 20 , I became a mom, I was in Idaho, was a stay at home mother, and my style was very very basic, I just didn’t have the time for the looks. At the time, at the point where I was in my relationship, I sort of lost a sense of myself. I look back at those outfits and I’m like, who is this? Maybe I was trying to become who my husband was attracted to or I tried to be like a mom should look like. Then I got back to the music, got out of the relationship, and started to be drawned to this influence again. It was all about that 60′s Pop culture, paired it with a very comfy hat or a fun pattern. But I still hadn’t grasp the sense of mixing.
Over the past 2 years, it ( my style ) had definitely followed my music, which is a mix of great 70′s and 80′s sounds. There are definitely some influences there. But I also started to listen to a lot of great afro beat music, and discovered amazing things that you can do for example with ankara, and mixing it up with mainstream pieces. There are so many great designers who just do this. I’ve been introduced to them, and I’m getting deeper and deeper into this.

Love Solange. The third photo of her looks so cute and classy, just love this look for her. I like the boots in the first photo. The last photo is a charm, but wish her legs were larger. Over all the third and last photo are great.

I’m a long hair natural beauty myself but her hair is not cute or neat at all IMO. I love the African/Asian inspired jewelry and makeup,but the hair has no shape at all.This girl just seems like she’s lost.It seems like she’s not really sure of herself.It’s one thing to naturally evolve but with her obvious nose job and that commercial I saw her in with beyonce,it just seems like she wants to be like her sister but so doesn’t want to get overlooked.
She knows that if she does something to set herself apart,people will give her a little attention. FashizBlack is a French, Paris based publication so the English translation might be off. I’ve followed Solo and her career and read countless interviews and she is very smart and articulate. I think she looks good and she makes good music. I wore Sol-angel and Hadley Street dreams the fuck out. It was a really good album but diffferent strokes for different folks, I guess.
And why can’t she be telling the truth about her relationship with Daniel affecting her to the point where she changed her style up? They had been together for a while before Julez came along and decided to do what seemed like the right thing at the time, which was get married, and raise Julez as a family but Daniel was not faithful during their marriage and it probably caused her to think maybe if she dressed like the girls he was cheating with he would see her as he saw them & be faithful.Crazy way of thinking but she was SO young. Hell, I’ve seen older women in their late 30s, early 40s, and even older lose themselves in bad relationships. “The mistress has short hair so I’m going to cut mine and wear shorter shirts because that’s what he likes about her…” Solange was and is still very young. She finding her way, going through phrases that most women go through.

Now since I don’t know Solange personally, I can’t comment on her on her statement, if she’s unbalance or whatever. And I will probably never know that, but as far as the images, I think she looks great. No she’s not a model, she’s a musical artist and she’s giving what she can give and I think she did a great job! In the second and third pics, I kind of thought of Phyllis Hyman. Not comparing them musically because their styles are totally different from each other but her stance, her hair (reminds me of the hats Phyllis used to wear), and her attire is very reminiscent of the late Phyllis Hyman.

How the heck do y’all know what went on/into her marriage, just because she was young and married after having her son, that doesn’t mean she didn’t want it to work out, my sis married at 18 and just celebrated 28 years of marriage, after having the baby 1st. Although Solange’s did not last I’m sure at that moment she was hoping for it to and part of that is doing what you feel you have to in order to please your mate. Her being young adds to that type of thinking if anything.
Concerning the cover I love the cover look, I don’t like the other natural looks on her and I speak as one who is natural. I can see someone else pulling it off but I don’t think Solange has really found that look that fits her.
However I am glad to see she is sticking with it despite her critics.
