On Wednesday, singer Lyfe Jennings was sentenced to three and a half years in prison following a 2008 arrest on gun charges and a police chase.
Lyfe revealed the news on Twitter in good spirits:
This will be my last post. To everyone who gave me a chance I am forever in your debt. I have had a fabulous career because of you. All I can say in parting is that I have been honest with yaw. I didn’t sugarcoat a word didn’t hold back a single sylible of my life from yaw. I’ve lived a hundred lives in these 6 yrs so I not only won’t, i don’t have the right to complain. I would like to think that I’ve changed lives by changing my own, tho I can’t be sure. But one thing I am sure of is God gives and takes away in measure. He is fair, just and forever. Amen from aman… Smile, its contageous:)
Lyfe’s fourth album, I Still Believe, which includes the hit single “Statistics”, was released August 31, and he revealed earlier this year that it would be his last. In an interview with Billboard, he cited his family as cause for retirement: “My kids (ages 5, 4 and 2) are at an age where they need me. I can’t be on the road for seven to eight months out of the year,” Lyfe said in June.
Lyfe also had plans to build up his Jesus Swings imprint from Asylum/Warner Bros., pursue acting (he mentioned he had just finished filming his first movie role), launch a children’s book series and support the young people’s campaign he initiated, “Stay Busy, Stay Out of Trouble”.
It’s been nearly a year since we’ve heard new music from Mya. But this catchy tune, “Alive”, is reportedly set to be released in Japan like Mya’s last album, Sugar & Spice, which was released in 2008. A worldwide release seems more fitting, though.
