Can’t wait to see the TP movie.. and congrats to Faith..they resemble, and I think Taraji as Diana is good casting.

  2. WillPwr

Faith looks a lot like Florence Ballard.

  3. Stacy H

I hope Faith can act…she and Florence look so much alike it is scary and it would be a great story to tell

  4. Sabrina

    Hi… who is Christine?

  5. Destiny

Hope the Tyler Perry movie is good. Looks like the 2010 Version of Womens of Brewsters Place…can’t wait!

  6. Chris

Finally, Tyler Perry has a movie that looks like it’s worth watching. Phenomenal cast; phenomenal group of women. COLOR! Something I rarely see on the silver screen and TV. S

That casting director has made one of the WORST mistake in his or her career. Hopefully Florence part is not that big. Faith acting is horrible; and I thought that was discovered when everyone seen her in the 2003 film “Fighting Temptation” starring Cuba Jr. and Beyonce with Faith playing the mother of Cuba Gooding Jr.

  7. tertra114

can someone please tell me what “Colored Girls” is about, cause i’ve seen the preview and i still don’t know…..

  8. Gia

    I hope Janet gets Diana.

  9. JstBReal

I’m definitely gonna see TP movie. So glad Maddea wont make an appearance.

Not sold about Faith in the Supreme movie, but Taraji would be a great Diana.

  10. Hunty

    @Gia

    I hope so too.

  11. circ1984

Love Faith, but I’m sick of these motown/60′s era films…damn…we had Dreamgirls…Cadillac Records…and now this? I’m saying…?! Black actors aren’t one dimensional, they can actually do a film that doesn’t involve period pieces or musical dramas…

  12. Be Original

I’m tired of Hollywood an Tyler Perry casting people based on the fact that they look like someone. This makes me NOT want to go to the theatre. Give REAL actors who’ve studied the craft a chance to shine.

  13. Chuck

I’ve always wanted to make love to faith

  14. Roundtree Fellow

Oh great! Another movie portraying black men as villains.
Nice job Tyler Perry. Keep up the good work!

  15. tawana

Cant Wait !!! Love every movie TP is in .. she is should a good person to land the role of Diana Ross

  16. Mother Jefferson

Faith was pretty much destined to play Flo Ballard lol. Maybe she will suprise us with some acting skills. I hope the movie is focused on her latter days, Dreamgirls has us covered on the other part.

  17. Young Hollywood

Great!! AND KELLY ROWLAND should play Mary Wilson!! hahahaha!
She looks just like her and That’s her real life role anyways!!!!
    LMAO!!!

  18. Willber Willberforce

    Waiting to inhale :-)

  19. Chuck

Am I the only one who thinks TP has one good movie (why did I get married pt 1)

  20. dippin dots

all of tyler perry’s movies are about the same thing. black women scorned, no-good black men, etc etc.

  21. MaryMaryQuiteContrary

Everyone, PLEASE read the choreopoem first–For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf. Read first. @ Dippin Dots, this is NOT about “black women scorned, no-good black men, etc…” No. If Perry paints this piece as such, this has absolutely nothing to do with Ntozake Shange. She is doing WAY more in her piece.

Please READ first. This choreopoem is about the articulation of sadness. About the maneuvering of despair; not about how “black women [are] scorned…or no-good black men.” Read “Somebody Almost Ran Off Wid Alla My Stuff ” closely and you will know that this has nothing to do with being “scorned.” This is about self-reflection. What you I learn about myself. What you learn about the critical interrogations of gender and sexuality. This is about putting the mirror in front of one’s self & asking very difficult questions: men are secondary.

  22. BENJAMIN

For Colored Girls looks interesting. And I hope they are making a Supremes movie, Faith does have a great resemblance to Florence, and I always thought Taraji would make a great Diana, ever since the Soul Train Awards last year. FINALLY, an artist tribute movie I am sure Beyonce will have no part of.

  23. Cory

They need to get Tracee Ellis Ross to play her mother. I don’t know if the cast will actually have to be able to sing, nor do I know if Tracee can sing but she definitely looks like her mom.

QUESTION:, Why is Jurnee Smollett not in “For Colored Girls”? She would of fit perfectly.

  24. agemingle.com

↑↑ oh great article ,My boyfriend and i both think so …
↑↑ He is almost 11year older than me .i met him via
↑↑ (a hot place) as my name says

↑↑ a nice place for younger women and oldermen,
or older women and younger men, to interact with each other…

  25. Scripted

wow life is really hard for a black women huh tyler perry? lmao

  26. Summer

I will check out the movie “For Clored Girls.” Its looks very interesting. Faith does resemble Florence Ballard. I sure hope they do a good job on the Florence Ballard movie. They never really talk about her in Detroit. They talk more about Diana Ross.
I really had to look her up on the internet. I think Tariji P. Henson will play be a good Diana Ross. But, I agree with Cory#23 that Tracy Ellis Ross or even her other daughter Rhonda Ross. I think Rhonda Ross looks more like her in my opinion. I’ve always thought Kelly Rowland looks like Mary Wilson also. Yeah, and Halle Berry is going to play Aretha Franklin. I hope all of these movies are done well.

  27. ProgramsWithinPrograms

I have to be honest here. That cover for the movie “For Colored Girls” looks pitiful and pathetic.I will not be supporting that drag queen at all.

Was keri washington’s nose always like that?

  28. jayMONEY

they need to do a movie about tammi terell because taraji definitely looks a lot a lot like her.

  29. PoohCandy1

I’m really looking forward to the For Colored girls movie. As for the Florence Ballard biopic, I think Faith is a good choice. She can sing her but off and she looks like her. I just hope she does the work for the acting part of it;that’s what really counts. She has a lot of places to pull from since she’s had difficulties in her own life. I think Taraji would be an excellent choice for Diana. I don’t think her kids should play their mom in a movie especially if they’re going to keep it real about how thinks really went down between Diana, the group and the way she treated Florence.

  30. T

I love the Taraji idea but Diana Ross is super skinny…I can’t even think of a black actress right now as skinny as her…except her daughter Tracee.

  31. cherrypie

yes to tracee playin her mom

  32. Lis

    @ #21,

Thank goodness SOMEONE read the original work. That’s the problem today, no one wants to read first, they just want someone to tell them what’s going on rather than to seek out knowledge on their own.

    For everyone else….
I’m reading some of the comments and I think it’s truly sad that some ppl are complaining about more black “period films” are being made. A LOTS THE IDIOTS TODAY DON’T DO ANYTHING TO WARRANT A DECENT FILM! The younger generation today really saddens me with how close-minded they are and have not an ounce of interest in the very ppl and things that are the very thread of who we are as a community.

Despite of what others may think, this was AN EXCELLENT career move on Faith Evan’s part! She and Mary (just like quite a few that worked with Diddy) never quite get to a level of status and success that they truly deserve. Faith has an amazing voice and presence that I’m sure will go over well with this role. The resemblance is striking and if anyone bothered to do a check on both womens’ bio’s there are significant parallels in both of their stories.

  33. Lis

BTW, the last contemporary story (anything after 1988) that I would’ve remotely had any interest in becoming a major film project would’ve been “The Coldest Winter Ever”. Last I heard, Jada and Will bought the rights to it years ago, but I don’t know what happened from there. I always felt that the rapper Charlie Baltimore (when she was at her peak) would’ve NAILED the lead character, Winter Santiago at that time!

  34. DIVINE

faith evans as florence is great flo could really sing its so sad she died so young. the unsung about her on tv one was so good….and for colored gurls…i hope this movie delivers ive seen the play and it was excellent so i will be comparing the movie to the play i saw. sometimes tyler perry disappointments a little when he turns his plays into a movie it is never done quite as good .

  35. DIVINE

@ 21…. ” SOMEBODY RAN OFF WITH ALL OF MY STUFF ” IS MY FAVORITE FROM THE WHOLE THING ….I LOVE IT.

  36. Jean

The soundtrack for the movie sounds great so many talented singers on it. I’m not sure what some people are talking about that Tyler Perry films show men as villains. Every movie ends with the woman finding a ‘good’ man. If anything the complaint should be that the women always need a man to be complete in the end of the films! Anyway since this movie is only TP “directed”, and not written it shouldn’t stop anyone from wanting to watch it.

  37. Vicky

Thank You @MaryMaryQuiteContrary……you took the words from my mouth and my heart. We look at the surface too much. Do people even remember English class in school at all? Nothing is what it seems. Black women are celebrated in the choreopoem…..they are showed how liberation is important in our lives. We have sooo many young, black GIRLS in our communities that need inspiration and need to be taught how to be WOMEN. It’s ashamed we are not doing this in our households, but it is true. A film can only go so far. It is there to make us think and inspire us to be better, but we have to take action. Thank God for those involve din getting “For Colored Girls” in the films. I’m excited to see it. And let it be known that I am a 21-year-old. I am in many ways a girl just with an adult title. I know what my generation is facing. We need to wake up!

  38. catdaddy

please black folks lets support the movie at the theaters FIRST and put the money in the pockets of tyler perry and his movie production[s] company before you street vendors go to bootlegging and taking money out of his and other black folk pockets. lets have a moritorium on the bootleg versions until this man has made his money don’t steal from him.

  39. everythingyoudropissotired

@12 Thank you! I was thinking the exact same thing. I’m so tired of seeing the same old faces in black cinema. There are so many incredible unknown black actors and actresses that never get the chance to shine. My generation is missing from movies, tv and music because we are bombarded with the same people over and over again. The poster looks like it could have been out 1o or more years ago with the exception of a few faces. *sigh*

  40. aiych

I’m expecting to find actual substance in this movie. Better not a waste of my damn fucking time or I’ll punch that clown-ass director.

  41. aiych

    **Better not be a waste…

  42. Crystal

I can’t wait to watch this us black girls and black women need something like this and Faith Evans look just like her omg!!! I can’t wait I am so excited about this

  43. aiych

nevermind. it’ll be a waste. clown.

  44. Producerqueen

Faith Evans revealed that she will be playing the role of Florence Ballard, FAITH IS THE LEAD IN THIS FEATURE FILM. THIS IS NOT a film on the group Supremes the film is on the life story of Florance Ballard.

  45. fififj123

Cant we just play non racial roles. Just people roles. Where are the titanic or Avatar movies from black directors. Thats what I like about the Will Smith and family, going after non traditional black roles for adults and kids. Something fresh and not so stereotypical black pain movieish, pleeese!!!!!!! We aint crying and fighting and beat down all the time nah.

  46. circ1984

    @ Lis

I know your comment was directed at me and let me just say, you’re an idiot. There is a serious problem when the other films that black people are praised for involve “period pieces” or musical drama. This is a problem, there is no diversity in the films that these black directors/writers are creating.

    Cosign # 45

  47. 1985

    @ 12.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I’m so sick of that!!!!!!! People go to college for drama and to study acting then can’t even get a job because singers that can’t even act are taking the movie roles. And actors are being recycled over and over! I’m so sick of seeing these singers and the same ole actors in these movies.

Also we ain’t struggling like that anymore. Black movies are always about struggles of some sort and overcoming it. If not that it’s a damn comedy that is not hardly funny or a musical adaptation. I’m so sick of it! Tyler Perry can sit down.

  48. pat

Faith was beyond awful in fighting temptations. Hope she took some lessons

  49. Jessica

Ok, I don’t understand this, black people complain that there is not enough black flims out there for us to watch esspecally on TV, then there is some, and yet we still complain, I don’t get it. For the people who thinks about TP movie is about rhe typical black women stuggle, you need to read the book first before you judge this, I read it, and its about all the lives from each character is facing, so honestly read the novel before bashing it. I’m planning to see the movie. I can’t wait to see the Faith Evans movie also.

  50. QW

I cannot wait to see this movie, I support Tyler in all of his endeavours and I always will. Never knew so many people had a problem with him and his work cause after all who the heck else is supporting black actors and actresses on an consistant level like this brother does. We can never be happy or satisfied even when we have it all going for us. Black President, Black director doing big things with us in toe, and a Black women ( Oprah) owning her own television network. In Hollywood produced movies all I see is the same white actors and actresses being recycled as well like Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and George Clooney, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Anniston, Angelina Jolie, Matt Damon, Demi Moore, Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, Ben Affleck and Kate Hudson.

So what I really cant understand is why are people not proud and excited when there is a movie made with all black actresses and actors whose names consist of Cisily Tyson, Lynn Wittfield, KeKe Palmer, Shamar Moore, Boris Kodjoe, Monique, Lenny Kravitz, Sheree Shepard, Mariah C., M.J.B, Idris Elba, Gabriel Union, Kimberly Elise, Taraji P. Henson, Janet Jackson, Phlicia Rashad, Kerry Washington, Anika Noni Rose, Thandie Newton, Whoopi Goldberg, Hill Harper, Macy Gray, Michael Ealy, Louis Gossid Jr., Blair Underwood, Jill Scott, Maya Angelou and Angela Basset. Oh I guess cause where tired of seeing them in a ton of other movies produced by Hollywood directors, or because we are tired of hearing there names being praised on television or by the white media, riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Tylers doing something really great for us and all these amazingly beatiful and talented people, he has kept there names alive, introduced some new ones (like Gabby), and for others have brought them back. I believe if black producers like him exsisted back in the 50′s and 60′s & on up then amazing talents like Lena Horne would have had much more work and things of that nature, because hollywood turned their back on her and never looked back at her even though she was one of the most beatifuliest and talented women the industry has ever seen. So see thats what they do for us as oppose to what Tyler does. And hes doing it his way and hes keeping it black and i dont see a thing wrong with that cause you better believe Hollywood is keeping it white. So why cant he?

  51. QW

I almost forgot to mention the incomparable Loretta Devine and also Gladys Knight who also worked with Tyler before. Cmon now, support your own and if one of his movies or whatever happens to not be your flavor, cool, you dont gotta go see it, but damn dont trash the man. I know when white people read and see the way that we as a people act and respond to one another they crack up, cause its like they dont even have to do anything to knock us off, we will do it to each other ourselves.

  52. Tiff.Will. [Tiffany.Williams]

*yawns and stretches* I have not been on CL for a while..well I’m back. lol

    @40

You and I both know you won’t so let’s not get carried away. Thanks.

    @42

    I agree.

  56. cleobender

they should get keri washington to play diana ross

  57. Max

Is Kimberly Elise required to cry in every movie and/or ad she’s featured in. I’m just sayin.

  58. DivineOne

WOW! She looks soooooooooooooooo much like Florence Ballard!

  59. MISTER

I see the similarities in the chin and jaw structure

  60. LuvsIt

People really need to lay the hell off Tyler Perry, shit! The man is out there employing our people doing well for himself. So WHAT if this story is about pain. We have pain! This is a well written piece by Ntozake Shange. I bet half you complaining never even picked up the damn choreopoem to read what these women’s stories are about. So quick to chastise this man. It’s so aggravating. Although he didn’t write this piece, when he does write, he’s writing from life experiences. If black men weren’t doggin out their women he wouldn’t have to write about you. So instead of getting mad about Tyler Perry calling your hoe ass out, get YOUR shit together and start treating your women with respect. *exhale*

On a brighter note, I can’t WAIT to see what Tyler has done with this! From the looks of the trailer, it may be his best work yet! Great ensemble cast, great story…I can’t wait! I hope he starts promo soon! This is less thank a month away now lol
