R&B Singer/actor Mario Bennett was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly assaulting his mother in and Baltimore, Maryland apartment. He was reportedly charged with 2nd degree assault and released on a $50,000 bond. Check out the info TMZ got below:
According to police, Mario’s mother Shawntia Hardaway — a former heroin addict — told cops the former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant had been “throwing and damaging property” … and pushed her around with his hands and forearms.
Cops say they found several broken items inside the apartment — including a broken china cabinet, a busted mirror and a hole in the closet door.
Mario’s mother also told police the 24-year-old singer had attacked her earlier in the week — in which he pushed her “eight feet into a living room wall, where Ms. Hardaway hit her head on the wall.” [source]
In related news, some of you may remember the MTV documentary that Mario filmed about 3 years ago depicting the struggle he has had with his mother and her constant drug use. So I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the main cause of the incident. Peep a clip from that doc below.

I agree with #7. Just b/c he hasn’t had a hit song, doesn’t mean his using drugs idiot! He’s experiencing some terrible times dealing with his mother’s addiction, and he’s probably not giving his music the full attention that it needs in order to make it a hit. Also, I believe that his mother destroyed his apartment, and tried to put the blame and negative attention on him. She’s money hungry and she needs her son’s money in order to get her drugs; she was probably upset that her son wouldn’t give her money b/c he knows what she would do with it, and he only cares about her health and safety.
This is a sad and difficult situation. He has gone through alot with his mother and I’m more than sure this all steamed from her drug use. However, putting your hands on your mom is a no no, any woman for that matter. That was not the best way to handle the matter. I hope that they can find a real solution to mend their relationship. She’s not perfert and often addicts relapse and that is to be expected but family and friends have to be patient especially if the addict is really trying. It is a hard place to be but with help from God they can make it.
There is clearly more to this story, so I will wait for more details. Having a parent who is an addict means being neglected and abused throughout your life. Such parents continue their abusive and manipulative ways into the child’s adulthood, and sometimes the children are pushed to the point where they push back. I will be praying for MARIO until further notice.

My mother always told me that if I ever hit her, I’d go straight to hell. I never laid a finger on her, in fear of living the rest of my eternal life in a open pit of blazing fire, running from a red-eyed devil chasing me around with a sharpened pitchfork. No way, no how, not me, not now.
I believe there is more to this story. Still, HE must get in control of his angry or deal with the situation in a different manner before he finds himself in jail.
From watching the video, I can see that he loves his mother and is afraid to stand up to her. I can also see that she is controlling, and that she is not interested in quitting drugs. She’s telling him that if he doesn’t let her be involved in his career by putting her on the payroll, she will get bored and get back on drugs. She says”Your success lies in your mother,” and “This is about me.” He hit the nail in the head when he said, “You feel like just because you’re my mother you can do whatever you want and I’m supposed to accept it.”
Mario posted this tweet two days ago saying “Sometimes I wish I could lend u my eyes so u could see urself.” I do believe that he couldve been talking about his personal life as far as what goes on at home. Domestic violence is wrong but no one knows the whole story. Let’s just hope everything gets better for he and his mother. He seems like a good guy that PUTS UP with a lot of bs problems when he doesnt have to.
How do we know that his mom is telling the truth? For all we know Mario could have been trying to keep her from getting high. *shrugs* w/e
Agree with #15. I work with drug/alcohol addicts and most of the time when someone is preventing them from getting high or bringing up their past, they lash out. It’s possible he may have given her money to do something and she spent it on something else…that we don’t know.
Mario seems like a good guy who genuinely wanted his mother to get better. Prayers to both.

I always admired his patience with his mother. Everyone messes up and honestly she birthed him and all but she will be his downfall. She is a drug addict and if you know of someone close to you thats a druggy, you get extremely frustrated when they dont want to do better and you are the one thats always helping them. I still like Mario and if it was all that bad, why dont she get up and leave her son house, but Im guessing she cant because he takes care of her grown ass. Now he would be bold if he kicked her out on the damn street and told her to fend for herself with no assistance at all. But ANYWHOOOO every family has problems and celebrities are nothing different
I’m sure there’s more to the story than what is being shared in the media. I watched that documentary on his mother and her drug addiction and it was clear that she was a manipulator. I felt very sorry for Mario basically having to be the adult in his relationship with his mother and I remember wishing at the time that he would be strong enough to distance himself from her because she seemed like a lost cause and a toxic influence that would add grief to his life and drain his finances. I understand him wanting to save her, children need strong parents, but I see things seem to be going in the direction I hoped they would not go. I pray they will all be blessed and healed but sometimes the best way to do that is leave certain people alone.

I love me some MARIO since way back at 14 yrs. old. And I felt his pain deeply when I watched his show, because we came from the same background, very simillar. But I can’t lie ever since I saw him get with that Amber Rose wanna be, friend girl, traitor ” Dez” I knew he might be headed for trouble. Trickin on a white hoe when he should have kept it where he comes from, like a Tierra Marie, or Raven Simone or someone positive. Someone who appreciates where he comes from, and who has her own talent, income.
His mother was on drugs all his life and it never stopped him from being who he is today, I know from experience it made him stronger and work harder. To be honest, In the picture above he looks like he might have been a lil coked up. White girl drugs makes you feel invincible and contious free Why else would he turn on his mother who has been on grugs all his life. And his sideburns are uneven, jacked up. Besides we have no confirmation that his mother is getting high again. So I wish him/ his mother the best but he’d better reconsider who he’s associating with.
Im praying for him…his frustration about his mother is clearing too much for him to handle. I pray his mother gets help, for her benefit and his.
We dont know if it was drugs, money or maybe an off day. The doc was 3yrs ago things change. good luck to the both of them.

While putting hands on your mother is wrong, the report said that he pushed her, not punched, kicked, or stabed, so while i’m not condoning his behavior (not that its my or anyone elses place to) atleast it was only pushing, and we don’t know if she put her hands on him first in way more forceful ways, cause from the vid it seems his mother is very bold and somewhat confrontational in her approach so lets not be ready to put ALL the blame on Mario, again i know that many people especially those who grew up old school or have GREAT relationships with thier own mother will be ready to condem him, but just remember everybody’s realtionship with their mother is not like yours, and again atleast he didn’t beat on her
Know one really knows what happened except God and the ones that were there. I am praying for the family. Sometimes no matter how much we love someone and want to help them there is a time when we have to let go before we ourselves are destroyed. There is only one that can help this situation and that is the Lord we must lift them up in prayer.
He is probably so outraged and dont want to go there again with her and he tried so much to help. His mother is selfish if she did go back to using. He just have to realize he has to walk away. If she gets in his face, he has to walk away and dont come back like she did for a while because if you cant change them, then the addict might change you and looks like that is whats happening. Its sad because she is practically all he knows and its not a happy situation. He cant beat on his mother at all cost if you can. Like he said parents think because they are parents no matter what they do its okay because they think because there is a commandment and all they can provoke and abuse. Then when the child gets tired, they will throw up the commandment like they did not just violate some other commandments themselves abusing and provoking the child that God gave them. @37, true. The folk that dont go through nothing and had a happy life and good relationships are the very ones judging. Cant stand ‘em with that condemnation crap. Cant let nobody that never went through nothing judge you. You do have to walk in somebody’s shoes before you can judge and speak into their life or situation, other than that just pray or say nothing.
There’s gotta be more to the story than this….. I remember when Mario was on Tyra about his mom drug use and how it affected him thoughout his childhood, I can tell he was hurt and sad in his eyes when you see him in the show. He said he tried so hard to let her stop. His mom almost died 3 times at the hospital because she OD, so for sure his mom started the drugs again, he saw it and he got mad. It a very sad situation indeed, I hope he will be able to heal from this and trust in God.
Man that was sad. And his Mom talking to her son’s manager was crazy. Her head ain’t even right to do that.

You can’t trust a crack head but when it’s your own mother you try to give her the benefit of the doubt. I feel sorry for him because he can’t live his own life and has to take care of her like she is a child. He sent his mom to rehab soooo many times and she just can’t stay clean. He’s going to have to cut her off one day so he can get married and have a life of his own. She holds him back…if it wasn’t for her maybe he could focus more on his work. Life is short and he should be enjoying it not stressed out all the time about his GROWN ASS MOTHER. She needs to TRY and take responsibility and get off that gravy train.

He needs therapy so that he can move on with his life. He will never have a successful relationship unless he loves himself first. She obviously loves drugs more than him.

Mario needs to get his mother out of his house!!!!!!!She’s a grown woman who needs to stand on her own two feet. I’m a recovering heroin addict and I know the damage we can do. She needs help but she gots to want it more than him. Alot of times she has to hit that bottom. This is a touchy situation because if he puts her out she might die in Baltimores grimmey ghetto in a shooting gallery or if she stays and don’t get help it’s gonna draw a terrible line between love and hate.
He’s not damaged…He has a career he put on hold trying to help his mother get off druggs that say’s something about who he is. People always talk crazy when they have’nt exsperienced addiction first hand on both sides. Hes in his late twenties and his mother has been doing druggs since the day he was born? You do the math all them years shooting dope in your arms or toes , private parts because your veins are worn out . Do u really think it’s a cute picture????
