Celebrity makeup artist Joanna Simkin is a very popular go to makeup artist for celebrity events and photo shoots. She has worked with many stars including Nicki Minaj, Estelle, Jay-Z, Idris Elba and more.
We recently sat down with her recently during the Concrete Loop photo shoot in NYC and she gave insight on how she started and also shared some makeup tips for the ladies out there. Peep our exclusive interview below.

Angel you are a pretty woman please stop wearing that black lipstick. I hate it when black women don’t use the different color palettes of make up because you may think you are too dark but you aren’t you could wear wine colors even a deep red…deep pinks even if your style is afro centric. Please change your lip color.
I like a black lip. Just my personal preference has nothing to do with my skin tone. But i might start mixing it up tho. Joanna asks me all the time. lol.
I actually think Angel looks beautiful with a black lip, and is one of the few women who can pull it off.

Joanna’s skin is so clear…must be from all of those water bottles she be snatching up from sets…jussayin’…LoL.
I agree, I was never, and still am not, too fond of black women and black lipstick, whether light skinned or dark. But I think black lipstick works well with Angel’s attire. I would never wear it but that’s me. Angel, do you. As long as it makes you happy.
Amazing job! Joanna’s the BOMB! She definitely put me on to the tinted moistruzer mixed with my moisturizer for a natural glow!
