OMG I can’t wait to see this movie. Jennifer and Terrence look like that they will put on a good performance

  2. looks like a good movie..i know ppl r complaining about the accents, but these r both american born actors, what do u expect??

  3. Drey

I’ve actually heard feedback from a couple of people who are south African and they are saying the accents are believable

  4. Gia

Wow, I feel like I just saw the movie. Pretty long trailer.

  5. VegetariansWillRuleTheWorld

I can’t stop laughing at the accents..

  6. Trina

    Can’t wait to see this

  7. taj

looks like she is headed for another oscar. I see you, Jennifer!

  8. GLORIA

I think people are not use to seeing these two do accents, so that why it’s a “problem”. The accents sound good to me, and I can’t wait to see the movie even though we probably seen half of it because the trailer was so long.lol

“I think people are not use to seeing these two do accents, so that why it’s a “problem”.”

I think you’re right. Because the reverse is true, when people see, say, British actors in American movies with American accents and that’s all they know they’re surprised when they find out otherwise.

    • GLORIA

Yeah, mostly white folk do different accents in movies.

  9. stoneygirl2006

I thought the accents were good considering and I thought the acting was very good can’t wait to see the movie and can’t wait to see them @ the oscar’s I know they’ll be on Oprah lol!

  10. simplylovely

I agree with Gloria. The movie look really good and I’m definitely going out to support my black actors and actresses

  11. CHUCK

    looks like a great movie…

not sure I am feeling the way the makeup was done for the OLDER Winnie and OLDER Nelson…looks botched and way off….

and side-eye to Terrence Howard..I dont know why I can’t take him seriously as an actor, he always looks like he’s about to start laughing…and fyi: the accents are not that bad, pretty good if you ask me…plus with the great acting it kind of overshadows that…

  12. RD

I’ve met South African people and they don’t sound anything like that….smh

  13. minnie

Lol at them painting Winnie in a positive light. As for the accents- it does seem weird but thats probably because I know it’s Jenny and Terrance so I think of them as american and not south african. I wonder what SA’s think of the accents?

  14. Gmonay

looks good! i’ll be goin see it!

  15. KEEM

extremely bad acting & accents…..that role should have been given to Jill Scott and Don Cheadle

  16. Dude-N-Htown

No….no Oscar…this isn’t a musical or a movie depicting Blacks as ignorant, ugly, whores, gangsters, and complete idiots. …

Im sitting with a girl from Africa, she says the accent are horrible, but she gives them an A for effort. So I guess I’ll do the same.

The problem is that Jhud is not a believable actor. Dreamgirls was different. Jhud is a singer, and she could evoke emotion thru song (I mean she sang the hell outta of You’re Gonna Love Me). But she’s not a good actor.

  17. blk

jennifer had me until i saw that awful makeup job as the “older” winne! JUST TERRIBLE! they got her lokin like big momma from big momma’s house in da face..my my my

  18. Neeks

This movie is a “good try”. I like them both as actors but this is just not it. I will still see this film to see if my opinion changes. Terrence Howard as Nelson Mandela is NOT believable to me.

  19. hmmm

yall are joking right?! this movie looks cheap and unpolished! the accents are terrible and the acting is mediocre at best…smh

  20. tadow

I will see it and try not to prejudge. BUT, Terrence Howard doesn’t look ANYTHING like Nelson Mandela. Hopefully most of this will take place while he’s in prison so we won’t have to look at him.

  21. TRP

Jennifer Hudson can sing, and act her ass off. Very talented woman.

I think they could of found a different Nelson. Terrence does not fit the character at all. I think someone like Anthony Mackie would of done much better.

  22. Beystanbish

Blah. I was not drawn in. Will still probably see it but the accent was horrible.

  23. Foxy

While there are good intentions with this movie I have one major concern. Why is it that persons in the movie industry in America think that they can emulate all foreign accents. For Christ’s sakes what is wrong with finding a couple of accomplished South American actors, or East Indian or Jamaican, especially Jamaican lol. All of those countries have actors too. SMH

  24. CHRISTINA K MOHLALA

I AM A SOUTHAFRICAN ! & I WILL TELL YOU THAT BOTH JENNIFER & TERRENCE HAVE DONE THEIR WORK IN STUDYING AN AUTHETIC “ZULU” ACCENTS THEY HAVE DONE A FABULOUS JOB! IT IS BELIEVEABLE I AM SO HAPY THEY HAV CHOSEN THESE FINE ACTORS TO PORTRAY A VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF SOUTHAFRIAN HISTORY.

  25. Molebedi

Horrible. Just horrible. Had high hopes for this but it looks like garbage. they should have had more South African actors in this thing to make it more believable – African people do not sound like that that. And its so superficial – it doesn’t seem to go into the complexities surrounding Winnie Mandela at all…will probably go watch it but am NOT enthused.

  26. Selfish

I’ll be watching this in the theatre. Looks like a good movie :)

  27. Michael Zumabi

Im South African, and I must say that Jennifer Hudson has done me and my country proud…..She has mastered the zulu.accent. I dont know what some of you guys are talking about, her and terrence have done an excellent job here.

    • Nikki

Sure. I was taught by South African teachers and got use to their accents. So the actors accents sound forced and obviously unnatural to me. But hey you’re from the place, and grew up in it so who am I to say.

  28. Curious

LOL @ everybody talking about their accents, but YET they still have intentions on going to SEE the movie…the accents are alright, they will due(not perfect but they will due),plus the acting looks pretty good! Now the quality is a different story, the production could have been better but just like the accents it will due! Overall I think it will do well! The trailer is kinda long though(needs to be shortened otherwise it looks interesting)!

oh and LMBO at BEYSTANBISH stans like you are waiting on Jennifer to fail lol why? I’m a Bey fan but i don’t act like that!

  29. Nina

Yeah. I see the intentions for the movie were good but, no. I think they should have gone with lesser known actors if they were going to cast Americans because all I’m seeing are Jennifer and Terrence, not Winnie and Nelson. Better yet they should have cast South African actors like they should have done from the very beginning. I mean you wouldn’t get Van Vicker and Genevieve Nnaji to do a movie on Barack and Michelle. But I digress, I should see the movie before I judge.

  30. LULU

Looks like a straight to DVD movie like ‘Fragments’ was. SMH…

  31. Nikki

I hate being pessimistic and shallow but the fake accents turned me off. I rather see South African’s play the roles.
I’ll deal with it hopefully I can get over the accents and watch the movie for what it is.

  32. dippin dots

We would all love to see South Africans play these characters, but the producers are worried about MONEY! It’s a business, and popular names will draw in the moviegoers.

  33. malaika

As a South African I was one of the people who fiercely defended the use of A List actors in the telling of “our” stories by those who were willing to put their money behind such stories. However, in this case they definitely should have used South African actors or maybe more experienced theatrical actors especially for the accents ..the accents are terrible, Terrence Howard sounded ok until he said Amandhla like he was saying Amanda…i think its an insult to the talented South African actors who could have done this role more justice… and the make-up on the “older” winnie what ?????BUT HAVING said that I do completely believe that if you’re putting up the money then of course you’re in control.

  34. sexxxi

Man who gives a damn about an accent! What’s done is done so get over it. If they would have chosen unknown people nobody would go see this movie. It’s true Americans are not as receptive to movies with unknown actors. Most of them work their way up doing roles with known actors.

Anyways this is not my type of movie but whatever best of luck to J Hud although I wish she would do some more singing I mean that is why she is famous.

  35. LOOKS LIKE A GOOD MOVIE. HERES SOMETHING A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T KNOW WINNIE MANDELLA IS A JEHOVAH’S WITNESS.

  36. JUDAH

This is a good film for Jennifer Hudson. Winnie Mandela organized the murder of many people and Jennifer Hudson also organized the murders of some of her family members. Maybe that was part of the research that she did for the role….

  37. Yo

I hate when people hate talking about their accents and makeup, please let me see you get out there and do it. I thought they sound good and they will be getting oscar nods.

  38. BIGWIG

i am with you guys on this one here.. I don’t wanna start bringing up color , but terrence howard is along way from Nelson Mandela…lol I had to look at the name again to see if I was reading it right.. I am sorry but when Jamie FOx played Ray he looked like Ray, when Will Smith Played Muhhammed Ali He looked like Ali.. But Terrence as Nelson Mandela.. wow…. I like Jhud, and all but Please dont become the next Mammie… Cause Hollywood is throwing you into alot of movie that just dont fit you.. .Did anyone see Sex in the city….smh….

  39. 1classyblackwoman

Ugh I hate when hollywierd does this – take this movie and Make It in Africa w/ real African Actors. I think Chiwetel Ejiofor & Sophie Okonedo would have been great together again in this after both being in the movie Dirty Pretty Thinngs! SMH

  40. END of LINE

I’m sorry but Jen lost me when I say the Winnie “Fat Suit”, lol

    Another Internet bully.
What a kick you must get from hiding behind a monitor and spewing sh/it. Orgasmic I’d say.
    ———————————
Anyway, seems like it will be great movie. The accents takes getting used. Just that we are not much used to seeing African Americans actors doing foreign accents.

And what is a South African accent anyway. South Africa has many ethnic groups with their own languages and therefore a variety of accents. I’ve heard black South Africans on TV speaking as if they were from England.

  42. I can’t wait to see this movie… Love Jenn!

  43. AWJ12687

All I have seen is a 3 minute snippet of a 2hr movie. It left me underwhelmed however I’m gonna go see it cause 3 min is hardly enough to judge. Yea and I’m over everybody an the accent thing people are hardly cast because of their descent. I don’t know how many times a person has played an individual of a different nationality and done it well. Just wait stop the bickering cause you might end up with your foot in your mouth.

    JUDAH go shoot yourself.

  44. Dutch

THE SAD THING IS JUDAH GOT FOLLOWERS..U MY MAN R WACK

  45. Dutch

I WOULD GET INTO IT WIT @JUDAH BUT IM A LET U BREATHE BECAUSE ITS THANKSGIVING

THIS WHOLE “ALL SUCCESSFUL BLACK PEOPLE BEING APART OF THE ILLUMINATI” IS WHATS WRONG WITH OUR COMMUNITY AND JUDAH IS ONE OF THE CANCERS..THIS IS ENTERTAINMENT..AND ENTERTAINERS WILL DO WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO TO GET NOTICED..IF THAT MEANS GETTING NAKED..SO BE IT..IF THAT MEANS SINGING SONGS THEY PROBABLY SHOULDNT’..THEY WILL..U DO STUFF AT YOUR JOB U HATE EVERYDAY..THERES IS IN THE PUBLIC EYE..BLACK ENTERTAINERS HAVE BEEN THE MOST TALENTED SINCE THE WORLD BEGAN..NOW SOME ARE GETTIN PAYED HANDSOMELY..STOP YOUR YOUTUBE/BLOG STUPIDITY..HOW BOUT SOMEBODY READ A BOOK ON THE SUBJECT

  47. JJ

Could this be hidden racism among Africans Actors. Should we kick those out of our films who do not fit the part or those who is not from our country and only use our actors? The hate on both actors is really sad reading some of the messages. One Actor already has an Oscar and the other was nominated for an Oscar. Both voted on by their peers not by any of us arm chair actors. If the movie fails it will be based upon what was left out of the movie, can I say the word fire, necklace or torched, this is what people really want to see, did she really kill the 14 year old boy. We want to see the bad in Winnie not the good in her. This is what will sells the movie to the general public. The trailer at this point only shows the positive, but what if it showed the negative upfront, what would we be saying about the movie and the director then? I think the film maker is protecting Mrs.Mandela’s image what would you say?

  48. Do your thing mama…that mama can sing her butt off
