Disappointed with the performance!! The song is my favorite by Nina Simone; it is a powerful song. None of the singers were powerful in their delivery of each story. They just used their vocals to present the song instead of gathering emotions like Nina Simone’s version. The BEST (other live performance besides Nina Simone) is Simone, Lizz Wright, and Dianne Reeves. Check the live performance out on youtube! This is how I view the song should be performed.

this was the best i’ve seen on BET in a while, excluding the documentary on women in hip hop. i hope they continue with better programming. it’s sad that i watch tvone more than BET, and i’m only 25.

but yeah, hands down, the best performance of the night was “four women.” i was recording it on my dvr, and had to rewind that performance to re-watch a couple times.

Wow, that performance was awesome…and I must say EXTREMELY refreshing to see actual, raw talent, ESPECIALLY after that Rihanna post!

I did greatly enjoy the overall Black Girls Rock event. The speeches by actress Raven Symone, Anika Noni Rose, and especially actress Keke Palmer were fantastic!

The Four Women performance was phenomenal.

i like how all of the women let Ledisi go off like that because anyone of them fierce ladies could have ‘went there’ with their vocals, but I must admit, Ledisi showed up and she showed out. That performance was brilliant and absolutely powerful.

@ # 7 – Tara I’m sure Nina Simone’s performance was great, but the four ladies did a GREAT JOB SINGING it. It wasn’t oversung like most artist do when they cover a song. I really enjoyed the performance and Ledsi did give it her all – she basically made the song.

I suggest the live performance by vocalists: Simone, Lizz Wright, and Dianne Reeves; I find it superb compared to the Black Girls’ Rock version! I have no problem with the singers especially Jill Scott and Marsha Ambrosius, I enjoy their sounds. However I was disappointed especially by those two in the performance.

Best Show Ever!

All the performances were amazing. The four women performance was absolutely breathtaking. They all have beautiful voices, I’ve always loved Kelly P. since she first hit the scene, Jill S. is dope and I love her style and sound, I am a fan of Floetry and both ladies are sooo talented & I have been hooked to the sultry sound Marsha’s voice produces from all you gotta do is say yes to Butterflies written for Michael Jackson, and Ledisi did the dorn thing like it was nobodies business, WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE. Thats my first time seeing VV Brown perform and she was great! Keri did a great job, she sung the heck out of that song and she looked nice also! And Monica, she has such an amazing voice as she always did and you can tell that it has gotten even stronger. She was outthere on that stage sounding like a vet, get it Monica, a trully talented women who gives it to us from the heart and soul everytime.

Ledisi and Jill!!! I heart those ladies…ipod has all their music! All the ladies did an excellent job! I don’t know how anyone could think otherwise, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, I did watch the previous performance by the ladies suggested and while it was good…this one did it for me a bit more. I agree with whomever said they stuck to character. If you listen to Nina Simone ( original) Ledisi was suppose to kill it..and that she DID!!!!! Jill played the sultry voice ( to go with the lyrics )…and the other two ladies did well too, They all have powerful voices if you know their music ( and not just the popular songs) don’t sleep on none of those sistas! Staying positive…the show was great..I will not comment on some indivdual performances…why taint a good thing! Like the one silly girl on here talkin about not being ugly…really…so small minded…she missed the whole point
