To the person that commented about “neighbors being able to beat children in the West Indies” – check your facts. Unless your neighbor happened to be a relative, that is soooo not happening! I can’t comment on Muslim religion because I don’t know anything about it. I will comment and say that I agree with everybody that said that beating her like that is completely unacceptable. If they don’t want women to show skin, then I would think that her wearing pants would be accepted. What is she supposed to wear under the garment? A skirt? Leggings? Nothing?
And Ma’at had mentioned that she didn’t get beat for wearing pants, so then is it possible for you to enlighten all of us “ignorant, brain-washed people” as to why she did get beat in the middle of the street while people looked on and laughed? Or is it possible that you can’t even fabricate a reason as to why that treatment towards another human being is reasonable?
I’m not an authority on anybody’s religion/culture and I don’t want to be. I believe in God and believe that only God can judge me. I know what is right from wrong – and without even watching the video, I can say whole-heartedly that what happened to that girl was WRONG!!

All I can say is, don’t blame the religion. It has been “misinterpreted” (AKA Twisted!) in many Islam nation to better suit the authority (not necessarily men). I can’t believe that people just stood around and allowed it to happen. I understand that it is an acceptable part of their culture but why would you accept something like that as a human being? Who would accept being beatened and humiliated like that. That had to be painful in more than one way for her. I hope that this video sparks much needed debate about this practice and many others like it.
Women are mistreated around the world, even here in the US they are beat and abused, maybe not publicly, but it goes on. That was trouble, I hate to see her beaten like that.

I dont have much to say about the morons who beat her. They walk around African Countries wearing the garb of Security forces. They are expected to be protecting the citizens. But they delight in humiliating them. In Nigeria, they beat drag people out of their cars in traffic and beat them up.

I was teaching my students about the Islamic Shariah law. This law follows the old saying for “an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.” Brutal punishments are often taken and of course in our westernized way of thinking, this type of practice is cruelty, however this is the law that has been practiced for centuries.
