Popular New Orleans rapper Renetta ‘Magnolia Shorty’ Lowe was reportedly killed in Louisiana Monday afternoon.
The 28 year-old who rose to local fame because of her deal with Cash Money Records, was reportedly shot 26 times.
Magnolia Shorty and a man were shot to death inside of a car in New Orleans East just after noon Monday, according to the NOPD.
A spokesman said police were called to the scene of a shooting in the 6300 block of Bridgehampton Drive in the east and when they arrived found the 28-year-old woman and an unidentified man shot to death inside of the car.
Both victims were shot several times and both were pronounced dead on the scene.

Fans of the slain rapper have been popping up on social network sites such as Youtube, Twitter and Facebook leaving condolences for her family and friends.
Magnolia Shorty, who was given her name by the late Magnolia Slim, was first featured on Juvenile’s “3rd Ward Solja” off 1997′s Solja Rags.
This is so sad especially when everyone is trying to be in the spirit for the holidays.. god bless her family and the other one as well.

got together to form an organization called Mothers against
Senseless Killings to respond to losing their children and to the record number of homicides in the area.
They organized public vigils and healing circles to give a name and face to their loved ones lost in order to proactively stand up against senseless murders with the community at large.

It’s true that this can be seen as a sign, perhaps the N.O. community can band together and hold regular protest vigils and healing circles, publicly sharing the stories of those lost and sharing the grief and alternatives to violence of those living to work towards more peace and less violence in the community.
