Jennifer Hudson performed a rendition of “I’m Here”, one of the songs from Oprah’s broadway play/movie, The Color Purple in tribute to Oprah Winfrey at the 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors ceremony. Although the award show was recorded earlier this month, it finally aired earlier this week. Check out Hudson as she sings “I’m Here” with the Tennessee State University Choir.

I luv da way she sings dat song
i absolutely think that was quite special….
kudos to J.Hudson
congrats to O.Winfrey
WOW
Ms. Hudson sounds wonderful and looks great! Do you JHUD!
i didn’t like the weight lose before but it actually has grown on me…
Jhud did very good but she didnt sang that thang like ms.tasia! maybe in light of her recent scandal they chose someone else and i respect that but i dont care what they say bout her she kills that song everytime
and i agree!
I soooo agree. Tasia SANG the hell out of that song. I feel kind of every time I listen to Tasia version. Hudson was ok, but she didnt come close to Fantasia.
And I absolutely agree as well…i actually heard Fantasia do it live last night..thats her song! But Jhud did her thang as well
C/S….She was just ok to me. Tasia sangs that song like it’s her last performance ever!
Ah, hello! Can I concur? I love Jenn, but she’s not Fanny. I saw and FELT Fantasia when she sang this song in the play. Everybody was crying…
Fantasia did KENNEDY CENTER HONORS already for ELTON JOHN, so they used another talent…. BUT THIS FANTASIA’s SONG and that choir was so unnecessary and completely destroy the INTENT of the song…. BUT Good Job JHUD
I agree with you all..Tasia bring tears to my eyes when she sings this song..J Hud cool.but Tasia owns this song.the choir broke the whole vibe of the performance..
Jennifer sang that song. I hadnt heard Fantasia’s version of it and I have to admit, Tasia OWNED that song and DID sing it like it was her LAST performance and as if she wrote it herself, she had so much energy and brought life to that song just as she did w/the song SUMMERTIME.. I wish I could download that version I promise I do..

Here is the real deal! Fantasia makes you feel every word. Especially I’m Here. Jen & Tasia both can really sing. And Qudos to Jen Oprah & The President’s fellow Chicago native. It’s no secret that Oprah loves Jen and so does Tasia. If you know Fantasia’s schedule you know she was on Tour at the time of this. Which is why she could not sing it for Oprah. Therefore Oprah and I’m sure Tasia gave her blessing, chose Jen. At the end of the day it was a good rendition. But nobody can hold a Candle to “Little Aretha” aka Fantasia Barrino.
must agree. This is Fantasias song j hud is a great singer but it sounds like she is singing a song fantasias sounds like she crying her life story love fantasia for real
WOW!!! I REALLY LOVE THIS CHICK SHE CAN REALLY SING SHE IS LOOKING GOOD AND SEEMS TO BE DOING GREAT…..SO PROUD OF HER SHE HAS ENDURED ALOT…
Ok, I’m not knock’n J-Hud….love the voice…love her overall…BUT……why is it so hard to print photos as is…the only reason I’m saying this is because…from the Kennedy Honors…you can def see her focus area is her top portion…but on her promo shots for WW it shows her tone and well porportion…I just wish they put a TRUE sense of how challenging weight lost is…Again, don’t get me wrong she looks beautiful from the show and her pic..I just wish they wouldve showed her as “is” on the WW promo shots
Thank you so much for this comment. I was so thinking the same thing. I am struggling to get my weight back under control for at least the 5th time in my life. Jennifer has done EXCEPTIONALLY well and to air brush her (as it is obviously done in WW pics) is to trivialize and totally diminish her success. Jay-Z advocated for the death of auto tunes, I wish they would kill photoshop and airbrushing. But the stars will NEVER promote this because they themselves believe their own press. By the way, don’t think she did half as good as Fantasia. They should have invited Fannie, we’re such a hypocritical nation. So the girl is having problems. I think this invitation would have been one of the things she needed to help get her life back in order. And we are supposed to be the nation of compassion . . . Lord, help us to be authentic and true in 2011.
She sounds and looks great….She sang it better than Fantasia, two octaves higher
Just because she sang it “higher” doesn’t mean she sang it “better.” JHud is an insincere, emotionless pit of wailing.
I agree Leo! Though I’m glad for her as a Black person making it in the industry. I hate her vocals and would never buy anything she puts out. So one-dimentional w/the persionality of a rock.
So one-dimensional w/the personality of a rock, that is. Had to correct the typos
Wow, LEO. Dude, are you reading my mind? I always felt that with Jennifer. She never felt what she was singing. EVER! Not even (drum roll) “I’m telling you”.
She did not sing it higher than Fantasia. Sorry boo boo.
Jennifer Hudson sounds great on this song, I love her version. Keep it up!
She looks really good! I’m so proud of her and how far she’s come in life. You can tell she lost weight the right way. She don’t look all sick in the face and neck… like Randy Jackson. Love me some J Hudson!
No doubt she looks beautiful! but she looked beautiful still when she had weight!..why is it that every women, mainly, african american women get their foot in any industry they are big and come with this “ima stay big and beautiful” slogan then years down the line they lose all this weight? I.e (queen latifah, oprah, star, j. hud) soon gabbie they are going to be after you gurl! unless for health reasons, I prefer to see a diversity of shape and sizes not just color in this “bony” industry
That is true, they all say that. But I don’t think anyone HONESTLY wants to be overweight…
Because we are a superficial society and ESPECIALLY in Hollywood you can’t get phat being fat. Look at Jennifer Holiday. Jennifer Hudson is just a water-down 21st century version of her. Holiday never became the star she should have (though she had some successes) because she never got “skinny.” She did lose weight from her original size (as she was very heavy – people with those big booming voices HAVE to be); however, by the time Holiday got small enough for industry to give her a “pass” her ship had sailed . . .
NO Jennifer did not sang it better than Fantasia! I disagree and I think Fantasia should’ve performed it! It was “Higher” but it didn’t sound or end Good! But Jennifer can sing just not that song!
Say it Beast!!!!! Why do they all have to lose weight. Being smaller doesn’t mean you are healthier or that it will make you healthier. That’s just stuff they push so the sticks will feel comfortable about their bones rattling in the wind. I’m big and my doctor 98% of the time says my vitals are great. I had one doctor tell me the truth that their are more sick normal/skinny people than overweight people. They also said the same thing I said up above which is something I already knew.
She looks absolutely fabulous. So motivational.
Looks great & sounds great, Go Jenn!
I like the weight lose good job…. but im really annoyed on how they completly just sleeped on Fantasia… she was the one who made the song famous… she was the one who was on The Color Purple play…so she should have song the song to honor Oprah … and quite frankly she can sing it waaaay better than Jhud… Fantasia puts every piece of her heart and soul into that song and Jhud missed the mark sorry boo boo… Next!!!
Of course J Hud can not sing but SANG! It was moving! For her new body, I am glad she is happier I guess but now I think she is naturally thick and gonna have a hard time keeping that skinny shape. Example: Missy Elliott. There are some women as thick and they look divine, Jennifer was one of them. The one who needed the Weight Watchers program or gastric surgeries was her sister, not Jennifer, no offense. I’d rather see Jen natural & thick. And they aint fooling anyone, she sure had gastric bypass done or at least some kind of surgery judging from her belly.
oky, im confused with what people really call thick and what they call skinny. in my opinion Jhud was not thick and shes not skinny now. she’s stil got her hips and her waist is defined. ppl like whitney houston, amerie, keri hilson zoe saldana are skinny. Jhud is now in the category of ashanti, beyonce and other curvy artists. just bcs she has lost a lot of weight dnt make her skinny
@ Candi..Fantasia did not make this song famous, and it’s not her song (PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH, the first lady actually won a Tony way before Fantasia took over the role, singing this SAME SONG)!! Jennifer Hudson sang the hell out of this song if you ask me, she sounds better than Fantasia in my honest opinion (and I’m a fan of both)!
i think she looks great and doesn;t need to lose anymore weight…
http://www.nakaidaflyest.com
looks good, but way too much photoshop on those pics.
JHud Sang at the Kennedy Center; WOW!
YALL THAT’S NOT WEIGHT LOSS, IT’S CALL BY PASS!
This what the illumanti does for you. You sacrfice something and you live a life of fame and attentionhow dreadful!
They airbrushed the mess out of those pictures and I’m sure they photoshopped her waist line as well, but she still looks great and has accomplished a lot!! She can stop right there. I hope she does not lose anymore.
Quickly, Love you Jen!
But…on to Oprah and her OVERACTING!!! I mean, Jen was giving the business, but before she even really started giving the business Oprah was going into her acting!
But love you Oprah, that just made me crack up!
She looks and sounds amazing!
Love it ..watched it a million times…Congratulations to her and the Big O..
“showing my heart to the folks that Im close too”
Bravo Bravo
Oops…love the new WW add.. looking good mama
Touching song…the girl can Sang!! She’s like a young Whitney and I wish her much success and happiness.
“Young Whitney”?? Not even close.
She can’t even touch cracked out Whitney cerca 2001.
2010 Whitney, absolutely.
@ Leo
You know she is close enough. She needs an timeless song written for her.
Leo, you be on that real…Appreciate the honesty.
WoW! fantastic
Her Body is on point! It deserve an A!
Hope it is not Photoshopped please!
Jennifer needs to put her sister on weight watchers!! They were passing out gifts in Chicago for low income children and her sister weigh about 400 lbs.
She has really done a 360 and mos def for the better.
T-S-U….I SEE YOU!!!! I’m proud of my school!!! That’s a big HONOR!!!! J.HUD looked and sounded amazing!!! Nice rendition.
Wow Angel, are you banning me now? Not predictable at all lol. So much for journalistic integrity.
It will never make sense to me how many black women border on obesity in the first place. You have already been blessed with good genes. Just lead healthy, active lives and you won’t have to bother with idiotic scams like weight watchers. Congrats to J Hudson for working on herself.
Not just women Zulu, us black men struggle with weight issues too. I think it all goes back to the fatty fried foods we ate growing up. The good thing is, J-Hud has proven that its never too late to get it right.
You do have a point Damian. Being prone to a degraded diet mainly stems from poverty; which relatively applies more to blacks. So dudes can be victims too. However, you can’t be a “victim” if you’re grown, know better or obviously wealthy, and I’ve seen so many of such cases. So a lot of it also has to do with negligence and lack of self worth. Also, it may seem more noticeable in women because to be fair, it’s a lot harder for a dude to reach the point of obesity. For us dudes, there is almost NO excuse – from bone density to muscle tone to testosterone and lack of pregnancy! I’m just mad that the most physically gifted people on the planet would rather just fall off like that.
Damn Zulu, I just had an AHA moment (in the words of Oprah)! That last post definitely hit home for me. The reality is, with all the excuses I have come up with in the past in reference to my weight gain has been just that, excuses! Have you always been health conscious or has this been a journey like the masses of overweight people?
Damian:
Sorry I just saw this. No I haven’t always been health conscious. I have okay genes and I have good muscle tone without weight training. I was always a natural athlete. But at some point in college, I let myself go. When I graduated, I worked on Wall St, got little sleep, lived on doughnuts, coffee, alcohol, and made excuses for myself. One day, I realized that I had gained almost 40lbs! I was absolutely disgusted with myself. DISGUSTED.
I realized that I made excuses for my lifestyle that were not really valid.
First of all, I cut off all sugar, and drank only tea or water with my meals. I stopped eating any food that I could not determine the source (enhanced food is horrible). Whenever I could, I prepared my own food — I still do this to this date. I also started running and swimming again whenever I had time. In all this time, I still had the same work hours (~80+/wk) So what happened?
Within 3 weeks, I lost 20lbs. In 6 weeks, I had lost all 40lbs and was ripped without even lifting much weight (I get huge if I lift). I looked like an entirely different person and had a few people ask if I was on drugs. But I did it that quick with only sweat & water – all natural. This is why I tell you that black people have AMAZING genetics. Go to the gym and compare effort vs. results between blacks and others and you will see what I’m talking about. If you go to Africa, the only people you will see working out are almost always white.. but all the black people are walking around with 8-packs. No joke.
The results, I slept better, I was more productive at work, I felt stronger, energetic, always agile, looked MUCH younger, looked better, lethargy gone, my immune system shot up, I was never sick, my skin changed, my suits fit perfect, you name it. I was even a bigger monster in bed.. if that is at all possible lol.
Forgive the length of this but I felt it necessary to go through the motions of what could possibly amount to different scenarios of excuses, from genetics to circumstance to habit. I probably work longer than most, but I still made the time. I’m a busy dude, but I learned to cook. It was HARD AS HELL to cut out soda/sugar but I fought hard and it paid the highest dividends. We are not equipped with enzymes just to process refined foods. I have been around the world and realize that Americans have probably the best work ethic but almost the worst level of respect for their bodies. We prioritize material possessions over a healthy lifestyle. To make things worse, the food here is really bad. Think about it, why aren’t poor people in other first world countries fat? I’ll tell you why: because natural fruits & vegetables are cheaper than junk food.
Today, I barely run 6 miles a week — and that’s only when I’m home. But I never gained that weight back, and I look at least 8-10 years younger than my colleagues. So it goes without saying that good diet and exercise are exponentially rewarding. At the end of the day, an overweight person will spend more money and forfeit more benefits anyway, so poverty is no excuse. I tell you, discipline is a virtue, and gluttony and laziness are bad for not just the body but also the spirit. I believe that every single one of us knows their body better than weight watchers or any of those scam programs do.
If you want me to help, drop your email brother and I can send you something. Bless.

I love JHUD to death but I prefer Fantasia rendition of the song better. Oprah looked like she wanted to be moved to tears but she just didn’t pull it off. Everytime I hear Tasia sing that song I cry.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE no comparisons to Whitney (da voice) that’s taking it waaaaaaay too far!!!! Whitney’s in a class by herself.
I agree. Whitney in her prime can’t be touched.
Jennifer did a nice job with “I’m Here” but only with Fantasia’s version am I able to cry everytime. I don’t know what it is, maybe the emotion that Tasia evokes when she sings it.
Jennifer, you look soooo good and I am so happy for you and your weight loss. Thank you for the inpiration.
beautiful
That damn J-Hud is a beast….(in a good way)..
She looks good!
I swear she will do Whitney’s life story since she lost all that weight.
Her face looks longer with the weight loss so i think she should go with a short cut. It will compliment everything else.
Fantasia owns this song, i saw her on Broadway and saw her sing this at the Tony Awards and she really feels this song which makes me say oh wow. Jennifer sounds good but i don’t feel it the same way as Tasia’s version.
Jennifer sung the hell outta this song!I love Fantasia, but Ms. Hudson’s version sounds better. She is in another key and managed to stay their flawlessly throughout the entire song. Just listened to Tasia’s version, and although she sounds good, she sounds like she’s whining and crying. She has met her competition on this song…..just my two cents!
LMAO! Did you hear Fantasia’s Nominated Back To Me Album with I’m Here on it. Please don’t kid yourself!.
JHud is beautiful, has a great voice BUT this is song right here is a negativo. JHud is good for singing other folks songs, BUT CREDIT HAS TO GO TO FANTASIA ON THIS ONE! Fantasia has a certain edge to her voice and overwhelming spiritual presence in that song such that NO ONE can sing it like her. JHud did good, she classed it up, looked real poised when singing it. But this song can’t be sung or performed emotionless, without conviction, with a lukewarm soul. Lo siento pero JHud should have gone back to her 200lb+, crinkly hair, southside of chicago church on this one to rival tasia. And that’s all I have to say about that one.
She is looking great
I am inspired!
Fantasia sounds like a strangled cat mixed with a two year old whining baby….nowherer close to Jennifer. Classy, elegant, and professional…..three things Fanny will never be. Jennifer delivered this song better.
She looks AMAZING! Props to her!
She looks good but her head is still big as hail!

Luv Jennifer! However, this performance was no where near as good as when Fantasia does it!
OK.. Now that you’ve lost weight…Please make me believe in you as a songtress.,.I don’t see why you are famous…IM JUST SAYING …SHE’ A SYMPATHY CELEBRITY ..OK…IM SO SORRY
Pingback: Dish My Dirt
She looks great and her commercial is good too.
@ Hip Hop Mom…Please shut because their is nothing sympathy about Jennifer’s talent! She sounds and looks great, PLEASE STOP WITH THE HATE.
@ Toya I don’t know what planet ur own 2 say that Fantasia can’t sing, I suggest you go take another listen!!!! We’re not judging how she speaks we’re talking about how she SANG cause those pipes are the truth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWsKdVBS-yo
Loved Jennifer’s performance, and Oprah’s response to the performance was priceless!
http://joeylohan.com – the hottest black women in entertainment!
@ Deemays….To each its own, but trust she sounds the same as she talks. I like Fantasia, but Jennifer’s voice is better, and shes way more marketable.
Jennifer sounded just ok she look on t.v. good I haven’t seen her in person so I would know because the t.v. make you look 10 to 20 pounds heavy so I don’t know her weight loss is good or bad but it happen fast. I remember Oprah did the same thing. I here, Fantasia own this song yes it is not her song but she bring life to the song. Fantasia sing it beautifully and with passion. I know that Jennifer and Fantasia are friends at least I hope and that they most likely talk about her singing the song. Fantasia is not selfish and most all not jealous. Because she sing other people song all the time. So I just hope that Fantasia will star in the movie color purple musical. Time will tell how things will be.
