You would think the name of the album “closet freak” would be insulting to not just him but the gay community in general.

    • Jordan

no it’s rally not…i think it’s all in good fun…

      WERK BITCH!

    • Jasmine

The name of the single is closet FREAK not closet homosexual. Gay, straight or bi, anyone can be a closet freak. If you knew the words to the song, you would have known that.

    • voo

@JASMINE- NO I didn’t listen to the song I just commented on the title of the song that’s the first thing that came to my head looking at the cover, as I’m sure other people might think as well at first glance.

WEITHER YOU HIDE YOUR SON OR NOT…IF HE IS GAY HE IS BORN THAT WAY…!

    • REALTALK

@ Jordan.. THATS A LIE… EVERYONE ISNT BORN GAY..

      THANKS!

    • REALERTALK

@realtalk , people are born gay ! its a fact , your basically saying people arent born straight either ? anywhoo

    • JEff

YEs take him to the time when his scripture was used to enslave black people…oh wait, thats still going on today Fucking slaves worshiping a white man…How self-loathing of you :)

    • Jasmine

Uh yeah, people ARE born gay just like YOU were born straight. Did you choose to be straight? No, you didn’t. You were born that way.

    • Jordan

thank you…i grew up not having any homosexual surroundings and still ended up being who i always was…either you are or your not…that’s like people choosing gender…choosing race…and or choosing who they want to be when they plop out the womb…YOU ARE BORN THAT WAY…and it’s not a chemical imbalance or a changeable clause… it’s who you are!

    • Destinee

I understand what everyone is talking about when it comes to homosexuality, but we can’t avoid people or talk down about people who are. I dont think comparing it to racial issues is the same because whether homosexuals want to admit it or not it is a “CHOICE”. God created you in a way that you have fleshly desires. The bible says we should walk in the spirit which is the holy spirit and with that comes “self control”. For an obese person that is walking away from over eating, for a drug addict it is not giving into the urges of doing addictive behavior. We need to address it as it should and it is sin. We also have to remember that sin is sin. God doesn’t love you any less because you are homosexual or a liar. There is different punishments for each but there isnt a difference in God’s eyes. So, for everyone to down talk homosexuality because it is not the way they live is being a hippocrite. Because he without sin cast the first stone. Now do I hear any stones dropping? Now the subject is can this man sing, and from what I seen on Housewives…Helll Yeah! So, sing on Lawerence. I can’t wait to download.

    • Note

      @Destinee

Sorry but you are mistaken…you have the ability to control who you sleep with…but you can’t change how you feel…regardless of if you ever sleep with the same sex…its not going to change the fact that you are gay.

Nobody is comparing race…we are comparing the mindstate it takes to hate someone over something that has nothing to do with you or something that is trivial.

Also you might want to check on the history of the Word homosexuality in regards to the Bible. Earlier versions of the Bible do not have that logic.

    • Dwiight you ignorant slut

This has always been my thing. Lawrence and queens like him have a mental illness that makes them want to be women. The dress, walk talk, mannerisms, etc is developed into a womans identity which just happens to incorporate liking men. Real gay dudes like the ones I met in the military are still MEN. Everything about them but their sexual attraction is man like. Now I’ve always said those are actuall born gay men. The rest like this queen are just mentally retarded dudes who want to be women. Tell me I’m lying cuz since when does gay meaning adopting the other genders Everything! That’s not gay that’s a identity crisis. A true homosexual would still be a man or a woman and act like a man or woman but is simply attracted to the same sex. And gay people don’t try that “it’s more than sexual attraction that makes u gay” bullshit because thats all it is to straight people..attraction.

    • Note

      @Dwight

That is wrong…you are confusing simply homosexuality with Transsexualism. There is a big difference between a Effeminine man and a Transsexual Woman…

Also…since those Woman characteristics are developed through society it would be obvious that this wouldn’t be a mental illness…but rather a social issue…if you want to call it a issue. Society decides what a females role is…it isn’t embedded from birth or randomly developed. Therefore calling it a mental illness or identity crisis doesn’t hold weight. Ultimately who are you to tell him that he doesn’t know who he is. He knows he’s a man and admits to it. Also your logic ignores the fact that lesbians exist as well. So that alone would negate your point.

“A true homosexual would still be a man or a woman and act like a man or woman but is simply attracted to the same sex.”

      But then you say….

“And gay people don’t try that “it’s more than sexual attraction that makes u gay” bullshit because thats all it is to straight people..attraction.”

That my friend is a contradiction…you just said a true gay person does this this and this…but then you say all that matters is the attraction. You can’t tell people they are wrong for saying its more than sexual attraction and then make a point that is based on more than sexual attraction….

    • Lucky Lollipop

@Dwight- You Have Said It BEST This is clearly a mental illness. There is nothing wrong with being gay, but there is something wrong with anyone who looks in the mirror and desire to be another sex, race, or person. This “Flame” epidemic needs to be monitored under the microscope! Sickness

  8. ManDown

    LOOKIN A HOT MESS!

  9. Dwiight you ignorant slut

That….my dear friends…is the height of mount GAYDOM. I have nothing against that community however this transcends guys liking guys lol here we have a guy wanting to be a Ultimate girl! Lol this my friends much like a phoenix emerging from the ashes as a unicorn surpasses homosexuality into the unknown realm of the Andromeda galaxy nightlife……

  10. BadGirl23

    The hell???????????????

  11. Sweet Pea

WOW, he has a nice voice, but WOW

    • TARA (Rebel To The Madness...)

I agree with you that Lawrence has a nice singing voice. But I disagree with him choosing to use this talent on medicore/generic music and lyrics (based on the song ClosetFreak). His vocals are great, I believe Lawrence should have a true singing career with singing ballads. I could see him prospering; he could be similar to Luther Vandross which was known for ballads.

    • Huge Fan of Amel Larrieux

Yes! With that voice he COULD be the next LUTHER VANDROSS! I never thought of that till you said it. He’d have to tone down his fierceness for a more serious ballad though so the outfit would match the message he was singing about. jmo.

  12. Shontarka

oh chilli whats next. oh my

  13. Lola

My moment to vent while the topic is hot: I don’t understand this fuc**ry. I’m very opened minded but the Atlanta men need to stop. I live in Manhattan so I’m accustomed to the gay culture but half ass drag is ridiculous. Just go all the way, put on a wig and get the surgery. Pumps and a fade is a huge fashion mistake. My gay guy friend (from Atl) wears women jeans and lip gloss lol but still looks like a man I just don’t get it. They need to know it is unpleasant to look at…

    • adam

your obviously not “open minded”, let him do his thing
u dont have to” get it”
if it makes him happy let him do his thing

      and u do you.

its a bunch of ignorant people on these blogs i swear
if we were all in a room u would think me the straight/ married black guy from texas would be the most ridiculous, lol

      Not

who gives a fuck, if lipstick makes him happy so be it.
I dont really get why people have to be stuck in gender roles, guys like blue girls like pink and dolls?
but maybe my education has me thinking on a deeper level than most of u.

    • Deann Dmere

      It really is!
      A sight for sore eyes!

    • Lola

Sweetie, this is a blog and it is here to voice our opinions. I embrace just about all walks of life. I have many friends that are gay and drag. But these guys still look like dudes, there isn’t anything cute or glamourous about a man rocking a fade and pumps…They look ridiculous. Lawrence needs to take notes from Rupaul. And yes I am educated and Attended a great university just like the rest of the young adults in America( you are not the only one on this blog who attended school). Just because I have an opinion about half ass drags wearing lipstick, pumps, fades and hot pants does not mean I’m not educated…..how ignorant of you.

    • Eve

I understand both points of view, but I definietly agree with Adam. It is almost hypocritical to say that one is open-minded and yet say that guys who wear pumps and fades are incorrect. It is your opinion that guys who want to be ladies should wear wigs and get surgery, yet that is just that, your opinion. Which has nothing to do with the feelings of another.

Men who wear heels and pumps are happy; let them be. It is not you, me or anyone else they NEED to please. You say that their appearance is a sight for sore eyes, don’t look. You believe that they should just “go all of the way” to look like females, but the same can be said for your guy friends who “just wear lipstick and girl jeans”.

Overall, I respect your opinion, however, this is a case where if one is gay, he is gay… what’s up with having “levels of gayness” that are acceptable?

    • MRB

I understand both points of view as well, but I agree with LoLa! No disrespect to him but if your gonna wear pumps and dresses you might as well go all the way! I think its dumb for a big hairy man who is 6’2 already wearing 7inch pumps in a size 12 foot! Also wearing make up but you have a full beard. There is a thing called being too much and he is that! Alot of gay people think everything you do in life with fashion is right! People need to understand its not appropriate to be so extra all the time! Not knocking his choice because i get the whole feeling good about yourself which is great and he does take risk everyday. But sometimes taking a risk doesnt always bring you the best reactions.

    • London

Well I think all three of ya’ll sound stupid honestly….NO! matter how he chose to dress…he’s still a man all day long and it’s crazy that people are accepting something that’s not RIGHT at all. It seem like REAL BLACK MEN are fading away smh and it’s sad. And ya’ll are accepting it smh that’s crazy.

    • jacci_is_juno

@ London you took the words right out of my mouth!

    • Pretty P

      @London

Gay men arent going anywhere so society has to deal with it but its unacceptable for a man to wear womens clothing in public. Its a huge distraction and an eye sore.

I know these guys are in pain…they are trying to make their wide masculine feet fit into a shoe and tucking their “tools” away into some tight fitting leotard but still mission failed because it looks hideous lol

    • likeCAESAR

I lived in ATL for years and never seen dudes wearing heels l like them. Its ridiculous for people to think that RHOA or any of its characters (including the “men”) is an accurate representation of Atlanta. I seen hella drag queens and other tom foolery when I was in New York and in LA. Somehow the idea of ATL being queened out took flight and won’t land…but seriously…you ignorant negroes need to grow up.

  14. lady T

im perfectly fine with accepting someone who is gay…but i think the ones who wear heels and the whole bit are just doing TOO MUCH

  15. John

    Let the homophobia begin SMH

    • kid1

That’s a bit sweeping of a comment, I don’t quite get why people not understanding why man would dress up like a woman, is a homophobe. Not all gay men (read: black men) want to be drag queens.

    • John

Well it might not be something you should understand, he ain’t hurting no one, who cares. And I say this as a person who would never dress up like that!!

  16. Capitol G

    correction: “…Sylvester, to thank for…”

  17. KJL

I think this is gonna be interesting, but honestly coming out as a gay artist is only going to limit him as an artist…i would think…i hope he proves me wrong…he does have a great voice tho…

  19. Vee1

Him and Derek J crack me up…..he is all airbrushed up and made up…he looks much better on this cover than on the show. They are hella funny though. I’m looking for the spinoff with him, Dwight, and Derek J. I know Derek J already has a show, though, but I won’t be suprised if they have another one.

  20. daddy-d

It’s nothing “wrong with what he is doing”. It’s just different and not the norm. DAMIENNPHILLY: I hear you! People need to “do them”.

And Deann D: Don’t want to see it, don’t look. We all have preferences, gravitate towards yours and let Lawrence be him.

BTW: Miss L, you do have a nice voice and good luck with the career!

  22. Leo

I Won’t do it. Not Today!

  23. HATAPROOF

PPL CAN BE SO NEGATIVE…. FEMALES ARE SO QUICK TO JUDGE GAY MEN, BUT DID ANYBODY SAY ANYTHING ABOUT QUEEN LATIFAH WHEN SHE WAS SUCKIN ALL ON OL’ GIRL IN SET IT OFF…. • Destinee

Really Hataproof, really? It’s the females that have a problem with gay men? Are you forming that opinion on the responses on this site or from personal experience, cuz from my personal experience there are more MEN that are homophobic than women.

  24. MICI

    *2 SNAPS*

  30. Toot

I just saw Unsung – Sylvester. Nothing is new anymore. Kandi stated that maybe the world is ready for someone like Lawrence now. But, I don’t think the world has come as far as she thinks. Gay characters are finally getting major play in Hollywood (that’s if you want to call it major). America may be several decades off before they can actually accept / “tolerate” a gay man made up and wearing women’s clothing. I’d like to think that we could all be mature enough to handle it. But, someone will find a way to twist it into a mortal sin or something spelling out the nearing of the Apocalypse. Lawrence does have a great voice. I wish him success. I do think Kandi is targeting a specific market. But, from what I saw on Unsung, Sylvester mostly sold records in San Fran, New York and abroad and he still amassed a significant fortune. It can be done. And, America is not the be all end all. Plenty of artists do it, almost solely, on the support of foreign audiences.

  31. Surprise

He performed this song last night. It was ok. I like the album cover styling though. I’m from Colorado and people here are so mean, materialistic, sterotypical, he would never get away with that here.

  32. ellaBRINX

If you don’t know who you are, the last thing you need is fame and a microphone. What you need is love, TRUTH, and a real heart change. This is not cute, funny, nor acceptable. It’s disheartening.

    • Truth

You sound like you crazy, you need love and to find out who you really are. No wonder people like you make others hate christians!

    • ellaBRINX

That’s unfortunate, it really is. When your parents yell at you when you’re young to “Get out the street!”, you may have thought they were mean, but they did that out of LOVE. Love is truthful, and can be hard at times. But it’s always for the best interest of that individual. In this case, whether you want to believe it or not, the truth is that God is grieved by this lifestyle. He did not create men to be this way. And if you deny that and refuse to change, thus making yourself god over your own life, He will give you over to what you desire. And that will ultimately be eternity without Him … which is hell.

  33. DmEsS

HATED IT..give to 2 snaps and a twist LMAO its raining men hallelujah its raining men. All he need is that lil ass hat LMAO!!!

  34. sim

    We are a dying Race…….

  35. aBz

Not cool at all. A man is a man not a woman and vice versa so people really need to stop!! And stop now. Makes me physically ill seeing such things and its really and truly gone far enough. Smh continuously.

  36. getgot

Ummmmm he just looks like the typical fem gay male. Regardless of dudes sexual choice…if ya want to make in the music biz big ya gotta come with originality sound and look. This maybe out of the norm to many but its not like nobody has never seen a man with makeup on with women clothes.

  37. Elle

Minus the necklace, this would be a fabulous cover for WILLOW SMITH. She would rock that tutu. Having said that… I have nothing else.

  38. CRIP CUZZ

STOP DELETING MY COMMENTS! JUST LIKE THIS SICK THING HAS THE RIGHT TO FLAUNT AROUND DRESSED UP LIKE A GIRL, I HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS MY DISTASTE WITH IT. SO STOP CENSORING PEOPLES COMMENTS.

  39. Damian in Dallas

Wake the phuck up as Its 2011 and who really gives a damn? Lawrence is a grown azz man, and if he wants to prance around in womens clothes, so be it! He’s not putting or taking food off either one of our tables. Live and let live.

  40. pinknwhite

is that a penis on his forhead yuckk

  41. Ya'll trying to be funny????

What the heck do ya’ll mean “STRAIGHT” from the A???? And yes, that is a penis on his forehead.

  42. mfactor00

So tired of seeing this gay shit everywhere. I don’t care what anyone has to say.

  43. Mrsjones

The Queens are going to have a frenzy over this one!

  44. JBOL- LOVE IT!

LOVE IT!! Cute styling and the song is real talk to those of us in the gay community. This look is nothing new at all to the gay scene. Its just not targeted for common audiences. I appreciate Concrete Loop for being real enough to showcase alternative urban artists to a crowd seemingly uncomfortable with things outside of what society deems as normal.

  47. Jason

    Enough already. Enough.

  48. AplmacLady

one thing to be homophobic, it’s another to disagree, stop equating the two; they are not the same.

It is not normal for a man to like another man sexually and a woman to like another woman sexually. Two men/women can’t naturally reproduce and you cannot ascribe animal anomalies and/or behaviors to humans, because if that were the case then cannibalism should be ok too.

Nothing but love for gays and ain’t nothing new under the sun…

    • Note

      Maybe…

But its also ignorant to speak on normalcy on two separate logics…

You say its not normal for a man to be sexually attracted to the same sex because of biology…But sexual attraction for the most part (very most part) is Psycological. Biologically speaking Male to Male sex doesn’t have a “use”…but since sexual attraction is a complexed string of emotions the only thing people can totally vouch for is that its a type of sensual or emotional attraction…

Canibalism isn’t a logical comparison to homosexuality…you are comparing mutual sex to the mutilation/death of humans. If you wanted to make a argument for Families eating their own AFTER they die then that would be more logical…it would be a rather interesting argument but hey good luck with that. The same arguments usually are found for Beastiality…which also doesn’t allow any kind of legal consent.

    • ellaBRINX

I agree with the original poster (Aplmaclady). As for the second poster, your statement that “sexual attraction … is psycological” proves the point that many of us are trying to make. Just as schizophrenia and other psychological disorders are not natural, neither is homosexuality. No matter how many people vouch for it, it is not right. I understand how it’s easy to see this as being “progressive” since it’s occuring as the time clock is moving forward; but it’s backwards.

    • Note

      @Ella

No…you completely missed the point. Not to mention in the same manner as the previous poster you brought up a condition that pales in comparison to homosexuality…no matter how much you would like it to be similar. Paranoia delusions that can lead people to view alternate realities isn’t even logical comparison to a man who is interest in same sex relations…of course i won’t stop you from creating a argument on that…i would actually welcome it.

Also…Sorry but your idea of what Natural happens to be is completely one sided…

I actually speaking on Naturalism without actually mentioning it in my post….here it is if you didn’t get it.

“but since sexual attraction is a complexed string of emotions the only thing people can totally vouch for is that its a type of sensual or emotional attraction…”

The key term of that quote is “Complexed String of” meaning multiple/different/varried feelings. Your statement actually insinuates that there is a set feeling to describe sexual attraction which is completely false. For your comment to even make a slither of sense you would have to prove that Men are naturally pre-disposed to be sexually attracted to a set host…good luck with that argument.

Lets be real…your whole point really is “its not right”…and thats your opinion…i’m not saying whats right or wrong…but i’m pretty dapper at Science and Psychology…and that point you are making is very transparent. no offense to you of course, But the logic isn’t solid. I really think you should re-evaluate your comments because truthfully speaking no matter how you phrase it Bigotry is still bigotry.

  49. AplmacLady

    nice cover though! lol

    • Note

      @Ella

Hmmm…i noticed a lot of people bring up the bible…but apparently not many actually read it…or does the history on it…I’ll make a quick reference and then you can easily find the rest on google.

In books such as Exodus and Leviticus i believe the book not only speaks on slavery…but actually gives a guideline on how slaves should be treated…when compared with stories such as Moses (The Ten Commandments) it really makes a decent argument for the Bible contradicting itself. My issue with this is….A White person can easily use this in his favor against blacks…as a black person who is religious…all you have to go on is the Bible…

There is a lot on this topic…some of which conters what i said (not much)but i think it would be better to just look it up. I read the Bible but not as a religious person if you understand what i am saying.

  50. ie

Just because someone wants to do something doesn’t make it right. Its wrong and sad what the black race has become. It’s like there are two kinds of black people now, One group who are trying to live by god rules; and the other half who do what ever they want and cosign on other peoples bull crap to make them feel better about their bull crap. I want to see these people get on their knees and tell god he is wrong and aint nothing wrong with this kinda crap. I’m outta here.

    • Note

Didn’t the Bible condone slavery?…Something Black people should look into before talking about the Good Book….

“One group who are trying to live by god rules; and the other half who do what ever they want and cosign on other peoples bull crap to make them feel better about their bull crap. ”

The real question is which group is the one REALLY living by God’s rules…

    • ellaBRINX

How does the Bible “condone slavery” (which in this case, I’m assuming you’re talking about the slavery of blacks in the U.S.) when one of most significant stories is about God leading His people out of slavery?

    • Note

      @Ella

Hmmm…i noticed a lot of people bring up the bible…but apparently not many actually read it…or does the history on it…I’ll make a quick reference and then you can easily find the rest on google.

I’m had ask myself if I was homophobic or had some underlying thing I was uncomfortable with that made me not “agree” with ms. lawrence image and you know what I think it is, It’s just that he is not cute AT ALL, like he is just not attractive so slapping some make-up on it just worsens the problem and makes him look like a fool, I’m sorry.
It’s not homophobia, he just has very masculine features so slapping ten coats of mac on t just makes him look bad. Like you know when you’re grocery shopping and You see a woman and say to your self, “damn she could use some make up or somthing” this is the opposite.

I ment I * not I’m but I had to check myself after reading these comments because people will have you believe something is wrong with you because you don’t think he looks good, sometimes a look just doesnt work . He just has a very hard masculine face with a wide nose, So the make up just looks foolish, some people can pull it off, he just doesnt work for me and looks like an inliving color sketch.

What has this world come to this a sad and immoral we have kids of the next generation watching this. Being gay is a choice not God given, so stop blaming God because he wouldn’t condemn this behavior if it was acceptable in his word. He really needs prayer and I pray for the next generation of black men cause this isn’t it.

lol a choice???…i would love to hear your logic on that one….go ahead…explain how one chooses to be gay? explain how straight people just wake up and decide…”hey i think i’ll be gay now”…Please explain…

    • ellaBRINX

It’s just like someone doesn’t just wake up and say, “Hey, I’ll be an alcoholic.” It’s a series of experiences and exposure to certain environments and concepts that produce or enhance the unnatural desires that are there.

Series of experiences??? As a openly gay black male,I was aware of my different outlook on life at the age of 5. I came from a good home with both parents and was never subjected to any “concepts”. Your a fool if you think the hate gay people choose to endure is a choice. Its hilarious to me how non gay people have the audacity to make that statement. Also, virtually everything in this world has become “unnatural”. I just challenge every so call Jesus loving, God fearing person to get to really know a gay person, and see if you can live with yourself spreading these loose uneducated misconceptions to current and future generations.
