Authorities are currently searching for 16-year-old Phylicia Barnes who disappeared on December 28th while visiting family in Baltimore, Maryland. The high school senior and honors student, who is originally from North Carolina, was last heard from via a Facebook posting she made that she was at her sister’s apartment with her sister’s boyfriend. Several people who visited the apartment are currently considered persons of interest.
There has been no activity on Barnes’ Facebook account, bank account or cell phone account since she was reported missing, Baltimore police said.
Barnes was last seen wearing a navy blue hooded pea coat, a turquoise thermal shirt, blue jeans and white slippers/boots.
Investigators in Baltimore are offering a $2,500 reward for information in her disappearance. The tip line number is 1-855-223-0033.
Billboards featuring blown-up photos of Phylicia Barnes are being placed along the Interstate 95 corridor between Baltimore and New York. They will include the number of the 24-hour toll-free tip line that was recently created for the case.

Nancy Grace IS the reason there’s now national coverage in this case. SHE made this nationwide, not the Baltimore police, not the NC police. Nancy is the one who was on the air asking why this case didn’t receive the media attention is should, as compared to a missing white child, far before most people ever heard Phylicia Barnes’s name.
The race card has been pulled about a beautiful young woman’s kidnapping. The issue or concern can not be addressed, for I am so evermore transfixed on the entity rather than the crime that has taken place.
What am I to do as a womman with everyday bewilderment?
I wake up at 5am which is unlike me…to think about a child, God knows what has happened to her. I am unable to genuinly and sincerly pray about this because race is now the issue. Nancy Grace dont care. Years ago when there was a seriel killer in one of the Carolina’s killing off black women left and right, and NG was supposed to do a story on it. All of a sudden a white women goes missing in Georgia and they cancelled the story to talk about the lady in GA. The next day they issued a statement saying that race had nothing to do with cancellation. SURE it didnt. No one cares about black females.

The media here in N.C. is giving it mass attention but it isn’t national. They did the same thing to Asha Degree a little black girl from N.C. at first. We had to push the issue in order for the coverage to go and STAY nationwide. I am from MD, and I remember the first day the family started posting MISSING statuses on facebook (12/28), and it has been a total of 10 days and there are no leads. It baffles me how no one saw anything in such a busy area (my ex boyfriend lived in the exact apartment complex). This case really hurts my heart because she is a beautiful young lady with a bright future ahead of her. The FBI is holding a massive search party tomorrow morning in the area in which she disappeared. My family & I will be there for support.

I hope she is okay, but her family doesn’t seem that innocent in the matter. Her sister said she was going shopping, but why would you let your 16 year old sister go off shopping by herself in an area she’s unfamiliar with? I’m almost positive someone was with her, someone who her sister is protecting.
Something just isn’t right. More kidnappings happen by people you know, or someone you know, knows them rather than just being kidnapped right off the street. I also don’t get why she left her 16 year old sister with her boyfriend. What also puzzles me is, Phylicia obviously didn’t feel great about the situation because she put it on facebook. I have been saying the same thing since I first heard the story. I believe she was with someone she knew. I am 21 and I still do not walk anywhere by myself without at least talking to someone on the phone letting them know who is around me, where am at. They say her cell phone died before she left out. Why even carry it with you if it’s dead. Why didn’t she leave it home on the charger? I don’t even leave home without charging my phone. If it’s dead I will wait till it’s charged. I believe she is alive I can feel it in my heart. I live in Baltimore not too far from where she was staying and I can honestly say a kidnapping in this area is rare. We have drug issues, guns on the streets, kids running away. But she is like the perfect child; straight A’s, graduating early from high school, 16 with a credit card. Why would she run away? How people all forget when Elizabeth Smart went missing people went batshit to find her. The media followed the family for months and her case was on the news everyday for several months. Any leads they had they put it right on the news. When they found her everyone was relieved. Now a child of color is missing and now the media doesn’t have the balls to try to help? Tony, I agree with you. Something in my spirit says that (dead or alive) she is still in the apt complex! You don’t wear slippers if you’re planning to leave the premises. I know you can’t search people’s apts without a warrant, but they should be doing a thorough interview with every single tenent. The door was also left unlocked. If she was leaving there, she would secure the unit.
All media needs to step there game up…It doesnt take this long to find anyone. The complex has cameras && there’s no way that she could have walked by herself to go get sum food. It is so upsetting and we cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that this mother was her caregiver and she allowed her daughter to stay (over Christmas, mind you) with a woman and her boyfriend both of whom she barely knew!?!?! The half sister and the ex definitely know something, there’s no way anyone could convince me of anything different. A few phone conversations is not hardly enough to get to know someone. There’s this dangerous misconception that family is always loving and caring, this is so far from the truth it’s scary. Sometimes, family can be more conniving and viscous towards you then your enemies.
