Twenty-five year old Reginald Doucet Jr. was shot and killed in front of his home by the Los Angeles Police Department early Friday morning, after refusing to pay his cab fare.
According to reports, residents of Playa Vista heard a man yelling and saw him running around outside completely naked. When police arrived, he was wearing only boxer shorts and arguing with the cab driver who had driven him from a bar in Hollywood. The driver said Doucet did not want to pay his fare, then took his clothes off and started jumping on parked cars.
Police say they struggled with Doucet, and one of the officers drew his weapon and fired, killing him. The officers involved were reportedly taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, including a sore jaw.
Doucet was a former quarterback at Middle Tennessee State University and a personal trainer. He had also done some modeling and was featured in Essence’s Eye Candy section.
Really? Killing him was not called for. What happened to tasers?

the suspect, Reggie Doucet repeatedly punched both officers in the face and head and at one point tried to take one of the officers guns. That officer, a male Black, 17 months with LAPD shot the suspect to stop the attack. Glad he died and the officers lived.

People have been known to die from getting tasered as well (google “taser death”, I’m not joking). Police officers are given training on how to physically subdue a suspect. If an officer can’t do that, they are just poor police officer material. It would be like a pilot who can’t handle flying in turbulent wind conditions; if a police officer can’t subdue a suspect without resorting to gunfire, they need a new job.

Well, just so you all know, I am a white girl from GA who had the great honor of meeting Reggie when he lived in FL. Know matter your color, background or anything else in your life, no one deseves to be shot down by police (especially a naked man) the only person who truely did wrong here where the punk police and I’m a Criminal Justice major. From what I understand… he left the cabbie clothes as collateral so that he could go up and get more money to pay.
Ended up getting locked out of his gated complex and was trying to get someones attn to get in at which point a neighbor sees him “unclothed – probably drunk- and pounding to get in- and calls the cops.

I have been a teacher at a 99.9 % black school for 15 years and the behavior of the children at times is horrendous and i am always counseling them that in the real world wild people are shot or put in a zoo (jail). I want the police in my community to protect me from fools and all the years I have been a dark skinned man the police have never abused me because I speak to them politely, they have given me tickets which in hindsight I deserved but many have actually let me off with a warning. In my college days I was even caught with maybe 8 ounces of weed , a white cop let me go when I begged and told him I was studying to be teacher, to that cop thanks I have not smoked in 14 years. 99.9999 % of cops are doing the right thing. They are the heroes, this guy was running around naked disturbing the peace. We have not heard the full investigation but we do know a man running naked in public is a strange thing to see and the police who do a dangerous job deserve not to be vilified unjustly and deserve our respect for providing security in a violent world.
