‘ROUND THE WAY: LIL KIM TAKING IT TOO FAR? / CHAKA KHAN UNCF HONOR TO AIR ON BET / JAY-Z INVESTS IN FOOD FRANCHISE

Looks like this Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj beef will not be ending any time soon. Lil Kim has been busy filming the music video for Minaj diss-heavy track, “Black Friday”. According to reports, the 35 year-old rapper has gone as far as getting a Nicki Minaj look-alike for her video for the single as well as for her other track, “Clap, Clap”.

Here we go again…I wonder what Nicki Minaj has in the works for Ms. Kim…

Chaka Khan Honored By UNCF

Legendary singer Chaka Khan will be honored at this year’s 32nd Annual United Negro College Fund: An Evening of Stars. Although the all-star tribute to the Queen of Funk Soul was taped back in September of last year, the celebration will be aired later this month (January 29) on BET. Khan will be receiving the prestigious Award of Excellence for her distinguished career as an artist and her personal philanthropic endeavor with her non-profit organization, The Chaka Khan Foundation, which was founded in 1999 in an effort to help women and children at risk.

Tribute performances were done by Fantasia (“Tell Me Something Good”), Melanie Fiona (“You Got the Love”), Bettye LaVette (“Love Me Still”), Angie Stone (“Please Pardon Me”), Estelle (“Ain’t Nobody”), Ginuwine (“Superlife”) and Ledisi (“Sweet Thing”). Other celebrities were in attendance as well, so be on the look out for the official airing on January 29th on BET!

Jay-Z Invests in Brooklyn-Based Chicken Franchise

Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter has added a food franchise under his belt and his business empire. The rapper turned mogul recently teamed up with his sister, Andrea, mother, Gloria and cousin, Jamar White in a new fast food venture. The 41-year-old has invested in a Brooklyn-based chicken wing restaurant Buffalo Boss, with his cousin as the co-owner.

The eatery also does more than sell organic chicken wings, fries, salads, wraps and soft drinks. Sources say that Jay-Z and Buffalo Boss will be rewarding exceptional middle school students with free food. Nothing like a family-business affair and giving back to the community! Pretty dope.

HAITI: ONE YEAR AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE

A man walks by crosses set up as a memorial in memory of the tens of thousands killed and buried in the mass grave at Titanyen on Tuesday on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The crosses were setup to represent the people buried at the site after the January 12, 2010 earthquake that killed an estimated 200,000.

On Tuesday, January 10, 2010, a catastrophic 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit the Caribbean country of Haiti, the first black-led republic in the world to gain its independence. One of the top ten deadliest natural disasters in written history, the quake claimed the lives of nearly a quarter-million people and left over 1.6 million homeless.

The world quickly came to the rescue, with 55 countries pledging over $2 billion in aid for recovery and reconstruction efforts at the “Towards a New Future for Haiti” international donors’ conference in New York in March of last year. Of the $2.01 billion pledged, however, only $1.28 billion has been paid, according to the Office of the Special Envoy for Haiti. The funds are being used to directly support the government of Haiti, as well as assist with the Haiti Reconstruction Fund. The remaining funds are for grants ($912.5 milion) and loans ($135.3 million). In addition, approximately $2.45 billion has been pledged for this year.
