Many of us grew up with parents or grand-parents who loved the finger snapping tunes of the late 50s through 60s. Most of us cannot deny ever hearing the catchy Motown tune sung by the soul-sangin’ quintet, The Marvelettes. Their founder and lead singer, Gladys Horton was known for her sweet sultry voice on their Billboard- topping debut single, “Please Mr. Postman” at the tender age of 17. The Marvelettes later eventually became a trio and continued to make a buzz in popular music with singles like “Playboy”, “Beechwood 4-5789″ and “Too Many Fish in the Sea”. Horton was later replaced by Wanda Young as lead singer in 1965 and eventually left the Marvelettes in 1967.
Sadly, the 65 year-old lead singer died on Wednesday evening at a nursing home facility in Sherman Oaks, California. The mother of two suffered a stroke last year and officially retired from the music business in 2009 after 48 years as a Marvelette veteran.
May Ms. Horton rest in perfect peace.

Pastry Shoes co-founder, Angela Simmons was seen leaving her London hotel to do a bit of convenience, grocery store shopping at a nearby Sainsbury’s. The 23 year-old and daughter of Run DMC’s Rev. Run, rocked a cute pair of black and gold platform wedges with a chic black dress. Looks like someone had a fun evening, partying in the streets of London!
Actress Taraji P. Henson had a little chat session with Chelsea Handler on her E! night show Chelsea Lately. The 40 year-old bombshell is currently playing in the Lifetime television movie, Taken From Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story, where she plays Tiffany Rubin, a strong and determined mother who fights to get her son back after he’d been abducted and taken out of the country by her ex-boyfriend. The single mother of one shared a bit about what she looks for in a man:
“I like tall. You don’t have to be so tall, but taller than me in these shoes [points at heels]. I just like to feel protected. I just some big old arms to crawl into, but you have to have a brain. And when I say man, I mean, there are men who are disguised as men, but they’re really little boys. They’re not developed yet. So when I say man, I don’t mean, you just come with your male member. [laughs] I just want a good guy who just makes me laugh.”
The lovely Taraji recently shot an ad for the animal rights organization, PETA in an effort to take a stand against wearing animal fur. Check out the hot ad below and peep the video, too.
After partying it up Egyptian-style for her 30th birthday earlier this week, singer/songwriter Alicia Keys and her husband, producer Swizz Beatz were all smiles as they cuddled up, enjoying their court-side seats at Thursday night’s New York Knicks vs. Miami heat basketball game (January 27) at Madison Square Garden. Alicia Key’s heels are pretty cute!
Other celebrity Knicks fans came through to enjoy a good ol’ game of bball. Among those in court-side attendance were Magic Johnson, Tracy Morgan, Howard Stern, Kanye West and of course The Ultimate New York Knicks Fan, Mr. Spike Lee!
