For the last 25 years Oprah Winfrey has been known for discussing controversial topics, interviewing debatable figures and reuniting families. This time around, the media mogul was the one reuniting with a long-lost family member. In an effort to minimize tabloid fabrications, the 56 year-old decided to share the personal story and newfound discovery of her half-sister, Patricia.
After losing her half-siblings (Pat in 2003 and Jeffrey in 1989), Ms. Winfrey recently learned through other family members that her mother, Vernita Lee gave Patricia up for adoption immediately after giving birth to her back in 1963. When asked by Oprah and Patricia their mother admitted that she had done so in an effort to get off welfare and provide a better life for her daughter.
Now 47 years later, after DNA testing and sharing their first Thanksgiving together, Oprah Winfrey allowed her sister, Patricia, her two children (Aquarius and Andre) and the rest of their family to share their story and how it felt to finally be reunited with a part of a family that they had never known existed.

Oprah’s mom seems trifling. I’ve never heard anything good about her, past or recent, in the news.
I agree & Oprah rarely mentioned her Mother in the over 25 years she been on the air… Something is not right there. She even said Gayle was more like a mother to her than anybody. To me that is a slap in the face to her own mama when she is alive and well….
I think that is partly Oprah’s fault. She rarely praises her mother and only brings her up when referencing her “traumatic” past.

I agree NikNak, she didn’t even raise Oprah. The way she was looking on that interview, Oprah sure is hittin her up lovely. I believe Oprah is lying, wench knew she had a sister. Her behind knows everything else and you know how easy it is to find out family business with Oprah’s kind of money. A private detective probaly did that ages ago. It’s when her sister started calling studio and contacting family, that Oprah came clean. Oprah is a manipulating lying wench. She keep Gail up under her more than Stedman……..sumthin isn’t right about that. I can guarantee that Oprah knew about her sister for years, believe that.
agreed! she loves the dirt of people’s stories for ratings but nobody can touch hers!! she had children, she was raped, she had family members, she was miserable once & struggled, and so on, she rarely mentions anything; Im nor here for staged shows; im glad for the family though, they now are rolling on millions

I’m glad she found her sister. I’m not too sure about her mother on the other hand. I wasn’t there, so I can’t judge, but I haven’t heard any good things about her either.
I found out about my own half-sister almost 12 years ago. She wasn’t put up for adoption, but our father neglected to let us both know until she had been on Earth for five. I know how it’s like to find out about a sibling you’ve never heard about before.
P.S. I wish I would find out I’m Oprah’s niece or related to her in some way LOL. You never know who could be in your blood line.
