THAT SPEECH WAS VERY INSIGHTFUL AND DEEP. I LOVE LAURYN HILL!!! SHE IS SO HUMBLE! IM READY FOR ANOTHER ALBUM SO SEE WHAT SHE’S MASTERED THIS TIME…

  4. Michael

This is the Lauryn Hill I came to love. In hindsight, though, I can hear some of the signs that explains why she’s taken the unfortunate route she has. Her feelings that she needs to minister to people, her calls to be ‘righteous’ etc. Her zealotry and the burdens she placed upon herself because of it seemed to really unravel her. It’s interesting to hear her note that if one doesn’t conquer what ails them from within they can’t deal with others. Since this interview, well… Anywho, I hope she finds some sense of peace and a bit more humility.

  5. Sindel

Wow! thanks for posting this. I really needed to hear this speech, very insightful. I love you Lauren

  6. BENJAMIN

Everytime I see stuff like this from Ms. Hill, I say ‘What Happened?”

  7. itshim513

Music would be so much different if she would have never taken her hiatus…She would made everyone step up to her level…I miss her. Wish her the best though.

  8. Dope

So inspiring! Her words are like water to a thirsty soul. Regardless of her saying that she is not a good speaker, I truly believe that she is an AMAZING speaker. She is so real. Her light shines so bright. I will forever be inspired by Lauren Hill.

  9. AplmacLady

THIS is the Lauryn I know! There are remnants still present, but she’s a little less humbled. Hopefully at this present time in her life, these are just her mountains and peaks, hopefully she’s learning and conquering along the way.

  10. Afroartmami

Damn, that was even better than hearing new music from her. I love the level she’s on, so humble, so faithful and that’s the real reason why everyone loves her. She’s always been on a higher ground, far above anyone else in the same genre. I loved the peaks and valleys analogy, that you have to experience something before creativity can take place. It explains why so many artists first album is often their best b/c of the experiences they went through before they created. God is really using her, much like He uses us all, I just feel honored to be aware of it.

  11. Lucky Bluciano

she is amazing. the funny thing is I had been listening to Miseducation for two days straight and ironically I saw this post. thank you, I think we all needed that, don’t you?

let’s not be mediocre in our greatness.- Lauren Hill

  12. robweto

There will never be another Lauryn. I hate that people judge her or say this is the Lauryn I missed based on what they see and hear in the media. She hasnt committed suicide checked into rehab or had her children taken away so how can you say shes lost? she did come out with another album after the miseducation called unplugged and was wayyy more inspiring than the miseducation. right now she is in the valley and when shes ready she will reach the hill. I love what Lauryn stands for.

  16. teamalja

yall gone luv alja jackson she is the our new era of lauryn hill mixed with missy elliot and cyndi lauper !!Alja is the truth just like lauryn watch…luv lauryn hill forever she is the epitome of what hip hop really is

  17. OVERYOURHEADS

L Boogie was dropping the science in the first clip! damn!

  18. DOLL11-ONE

Speak on it mama—Many of those white folks were confused as hell….she did say her mom “whopped” that ass and corrected it with a different choice of words but Im all for a love spanking…lol

Brilliance and self worth is where she was and still is..People IMO judged her too harshly in her personal life.

For the most parts..great comments people

  19. getgot

Lauryn is one of the few artist who actually have a voice and i pay attention to what she has to say. Props

  20. Lovely

I disagree with Lauryn on one thing, when she said she was not a good speaker! Girl you hit the nail with that!

  21. jhsting32

Thanks for the positivity, other sites continue to put out negative stuff but ignore the positive impact people make. I went to her Charlotte show and it was wonderful. I would buy a album of her new renditions. People need to realize that people change and grow with life. Hopefully you are not the same person you were a decade ago. Why would you expect your favorite artist to remain the same?

  22. Tushy

OMG Words cannot even describe how much i LOVE this woman…she’s so inspirational and what she said about sometimes we can be agents ourselves and we dont realise it GOD ive take soo much from this 20 minute speech its AMAZING!!

  23. BOUGA

She spoke a lot of sense. Great to see that side of her. How I miss her in the game. I pray she comes back to continue her “ministering.

  24. KittyK

Wow, that was great!!! I miss the old Lauren – the one that was not so bitter. She was soooooo amazing!!! I still (to this day) rock my Miseducation CD. Thanks for posting this – I needed to hear some positive words today!

  25. Angie Coleman

    She is the Truth!

  26. CRIP CUZZ

ALL YOU HOES SUCKING DICK FOR RECORD DEALS AND SHAKING YOUR ASS IN VIDEOS AND REALITY SHOWS, PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE TRUE QUEEN LAURYN HILL. A BEAUTIFUL CLASSY BLACK QUEEN WHO DIDN’T HAVE TO DO ANY OF THAT TO BECOME THE MOST SUCCESSFUL YOUNG BLACK WOMAN TO EVER DO IT.

  27. dunny

Ugh! I cant!!! I just Love this woman, she’s so inspiring!

  28. Ash_j

In order to be used, sometimes you have to be humiliated. Sometimes you have to be kicked and beaten. And in that situation (and this is the heavy part), the person who’s doing the kicking and beating is the one feeling more pain than yòu are.

  29. UNKNOWN

Someone Should Really Show Her This Video To REMIND Her Of How Humble She Was. Sometimes People Forget.

  30. Jelly

When you say i woman is Beautiful, this is what you mean :)

  31. digable planets

lauryn hill is amazing. i was listening to her unplugged album when i saw this post.

  32. Boolacula

I love this sister so much! And I will never stand in judgment of her. I’ve met her personally and been touched and inspired by her lovely spirit. She is a divine soldier and I look forward to her next chapter.

  33. ellaBRINX

Brilliant. This explains why many artists lack substance to their music, because they lack substance in their lives. They’re surrounded by materialism and fail to venture out and experience new things, which inevitably reproduces what I call “dead music.” But like Ms. Hill mentioned, most of these artists haven’t found themselves yet so their art will reflect that.

I don’t rush her return. In due time, when she makes it on top of the hill she’s currently facing, we’ll hear all about her experiences, prayerfully, in a way that will rise the standard for the Kanye’s, Nicki’s, and Soulja Boy’s. Time is ticking.

With her having a strong relationship with God, I also want to know what she thinks about the increase of homosexuality in mainstream music and media. I also want to know what exactly she ‘approves’ of in terms of her liking or jamming to the music of Nicki Minaj and Keri Hilson, as previously reported.

Someone just let me interview her lol.

  34. Kym

She transcended those questions. She answered them and then some. Like the previous commentor said (ellaBRINX), that was BRILLIANT. Lauryn is definitely beyond her years and I love the fact that she is so humble. There’s a GOD in all of us that can take us to levels we never thought possible, both in our mindsets and actions in life. That’s why when we hear people like that speak we called them “deep”. Man I needed that. It truly blessed my soul…

  35. Triple ONE

Ms. Hill is a rare soul. She have a realness about her. That I do not see in a lot of artists. Still, I think she is blowing an opportunity. She is not meeting the expectation of her fan. People wanted more than One Solo Studio album from her. We could forgive her if she were death but she is still alive and while. The Lauryn Hill of 2010/2011 is only a shell of her former self. Wyclef recently said the Fugees are not meant to be. Look Like, Lauryn Hill is not meant to be either.

  36. innovatoor09

Beautiful words of wisdom from her. She is real. The music industry will destroy your self-esteem along with the people you associate with, and that happen to her. She is making a comeback, and I hope she is getting to a good place in her life.

  37. zaina

True talent not some barbie shit.

  38. REAL R&B ARTISTS STAND UP

So intelligent! We need more artists like her …. her music is intelligent b/c she is ….

the only new artists that come close to making the quality of music in this genertion is Janelle M and Esperanza Spaulding….

not a coincidence Prince has both of them opening up fo him.

  39. Leo (MusicXclusives)

This entire piece was breathtaking and very inspiring. As much as she comes across as being modest and saying that she’s not a great speaker, she is. She has affected so many lives in a positive way and inspired so many young people when she came out. This speech was very well put. I now fully understand her absence in music in a nutshell. She took a ‘break’ to live life and go through experiences as she says and when she returns (which hopefully will be in 2011), she will have a lot to talk about, her ‘creativity’ will be flowing once again like it did on her debut. Wow, I wish a lot of the artists of today will come across this speech because its VERY powerful. I look fwd to Ms. Hill’s return soon!

That was the TRUTH and nothing but…thank you Lauren. That is exactly how I live my life and how I see the enemy. God bless you – so inspiring…
