GUESS WHO: HAVING LUNCH IN HOLLYWOOD

February 25th, 2011

Guess who was spotted having lunch at an outside café. Hint: He’s a living screen legend.

It’s Sidney Poitier, enjoying the sunny Los Angeles weather on Wednesday, February 23. He’s starred in over 50 films, was named one of the Greatest Male Stars of All Time and became the first African-American to win an Oscar for Best Actor in 1963.

This just reminded me of how much I need to read his autobiographies.

    WHAT THE HELL

    Correction he was the Second.

Hattie McDaniel (June 10, 1895 – October 25, 1952) was an American actress and the first African-American to win an Academy Award. She won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role of Mammy in Gone with the Wind (1939).

name a movie he was in… anything recent or in the past 10 years. I’ve never heard of him. I thought Denzel was the first black man to win an Oscar and Halle Berry was the first black female. Am I wrong?

wrong and uneducated the fact that you’re on the internet and can have instant access to the question you’re asking is very disturbing. Enough said.

It it wasn’t for this man and many others including Cicely Tyson, black actors like Denzel and Halle would not be where they are today! Google or even picking up a book sometimes will help you gain knowledge of history…espically BLACK history!

maybe I phrased this question wrong. I mean name a movie he was in so I might know who he is. I’ve never seen or heard of him before so I asked for someone to name a movie so I might know! I didn’t mean to say anything insulting! I know its Black History Month! Every year around this time I learn more about black people and their accomplishments. You don’t learn about ALL black accomplishments in school.

Wow! Are you kidding me. This is SIDNEY POITIER!!!!!!! THIS IS SIDNEY POITIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look buddy, you need to google this man. He is a big reason a site like Concrete Loop can exist! Then go to bing, then go to yahoo, etc….. He literally paved, scrapped, shoveled, and any other metaphor you want to use for every black actor or actress working today. He made black actors acceptable. He made black actors useable. He made black actor viable and relavent. SIDNEY POITIER!!!!!!!! This man inspired Oprah, Denzel, Jamie, Halle, Angela, and any other one name black personality you or I can name. Black actors did not begin with Denzel and Halle. Denzel and Halle are amazing and great but SIDNEY POITIER is the reason they can be what they are today. Without him they could possible be bit players in some white actors movie! LEARN YOUR HISTORY AND DO NOT COMMENT UNTIL YOU DO!

This negro laid the groundwork and paved the way for future black “actors” on how to sell your soul in Hollywood to receive fame and accolades. He established the “noble negro” archetype in film that has been carried on by Denzel Washington. He was an early pawn used by Jewish Hollywood to push the so-called “civil rights movement” in cinema by constantly making the characters he played sympathetic, upright figures in juxtaposition to allegedly “simple-minded” caucasian characters. He worships the Baphomet like they all do.

A really good film of Mr. Poitier’s is The Defiant Ones. It plays on TCM often, and it’s worth checking out.
