MUSIC NEWS: BEYONCE TO HEADLINE GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL

February 11th, 2011

Beyonce has been confirmed as a headliner at Glastonbury 2011, which is the largest open-air music and performing arts festival in the world and takes place June 22-26 in Somerset, England.

The dynamic diva — who’s up for two GRAMMYs this year — issued a statement expressing her excitement:

This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there. Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend.

I’m pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy.

No other artists have been announced yet for this year’s festival, which is already sold out and expected to have over 200,000 people in attendance.

@DWIGHT I’m sorry, who made you the Ultimate Decider of what “real” music is? I guess all music is run by your ears first before it can get its “music” label?

CONCRETE LOOP THIS IS NOT JUST SOME RANDOM NEWS, THIS IS HISTORICAL, BEYONCE IS THE FIRST POP & R&B ACT TO HEADLINE THE Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts AND OVERALL THE FIRST WOMAN EVER TO HEADLINE!!! THERE ARE ONLY THREE BLACK MUSICIANS WHO HEADLINED IN THE 41 YEARS OF HISTORY OF THIS FESTIVAL, JAY-Z IN 2008, STEVIE WONDER IN 2010 & IN JUNE 2011, BEYONCE. AND JAY-Z WAS THE FIRST BLACK ACT TO HEADLINE AND ONLY HIP HOP ARTIST EVER TO DO IT. HE OPENNED THE DOOR FOR HIP HOP. BEYONCE IS OPENNING THE DOOR FOR POP & R&B. CONFIRMED ARTISTS THIS YEAR ARE U2 AND COLDPLAY.

uhhhhh ever heard of corrine bailey rae she didnt headline but shes a r&b female artist. and others have done it years before 2008 they are UK ARTIST THOUGH and UK is KILLING US r&b

Yeah u guys are making it out like she’s kicking down doors. I’ll give u the headline thing however that doesn’t mean she gets to headline pyramid stage. Corrine, sister sledge and others have all headlined there perspective stages but pyramid is top billing. As far as hip ho acts go jay z was pyramid but hip hop has been there for years. And r&b like James brown, vv brown etc. And black acts like santogold etc have been playing there years before the carters. So yeah if she gets pyramid I’ll give it to her even though she’s not a real artist.

Beyonce is the first black female of her kind and that is a big thing. They LOVED Jay and showed him a lot of love throughout and she’ll be an even bigger get for them.

This is an entirely different crowd for her but i’m confident her amazing stage presence will kill!

    • Not Really

How? She’s had a sold out International Tour and not just with this last one, each of her tours she touches down in places she hasn’t (and of course the ones she has she’s in demand for and has to go back). So who’s going to be there that she hasn’t rocked already? She had Muslim Women in their full garb rocking out in one country. If they knew Jay’s songs I’m sure they know hers.

Because this is a indie rock crowd. yeah they have had pop people before but these are not your usual gaga etc people thats why there were boos when jay z was there

I didn’t hear any boos for Jay. Heard cheers and his lyrics being recited. Beyonce is going to kill this because she’s the best live female entertainer today.
