‘ROUND THE WAY: BEYONCE IN BLACKFACE FOR L’OFFICIEL MAGAZINE + BEHIND THE SCENES VIDEO

French fashion magazine L’Officiel asked Beyonce to grace the cover of its March issue, celebrating its 90th anniversary as well as her African roots…in blackface.

L’Officiel issued the following statement:
“The Fashion magazine is about to celebrate its 90th birthday. To celebrate this anniversary, the festivities start with the March issue, with Beyoncé on the cover. She agreed to pose for an incredible fashion shoot, with the theme of African Queen, paying a tribute to the legendary Fela Kuti. Far from the glamorous Sasha Fierce, the beauty posed for the magazine with amazing fashion designers clothes, but also in a dress created by her mother. [It is] A return to her African roots, as you can see on the picture, on which her face was voluntarily darkened. All the pictures will be available in the collector edition, on sell at the end of this month.”

  1. The Global Observer

I appreciate the art but I’m not a fan of black face used by any race.

  2. So What

If they were going to do “black face” this is what you all called it. They should have used a black model. Tipical Hollywood bullshit around the World. SAD.

  3. So What

OK let me correct myself before people start going crazy. Instead of saying they should have used a black model (because beyonce is obviously black just a lighter version). They should have used a Dark Skin model. For some reason it takes me back to that TV serious about black faces when white men paint their faces black. That’s not cool or funny. Racist shit never ends. They really wanted to use a white women but since beyonce is black and her skin is close to white they though the black community would accept it. Beyonce don’t care longs as she getting money. That is why she keep bleaching her hair and hanging out with Gwyneth Paltrow somebody please tell her she would never be that chick. think about it you never see her hanging out with black artist its not because of Jay nobody wants his ass but her. Her sis hangs out with Ciara LaLa and a lot more black artist all in the clubs dancing and having fun. I’m not hating people so don’t start, beyonce don’t give a dam about you so please don’t take up for her. She look good though I’m not going to lie.

This magazine cover epitomizes one word “ignorant”. Learn your history people, American blacks come from kings and queens regal individuals who held their head high and was ashamed of their beauty. Why put her in blackface, were her american features and color not good enough. why not give a dark skinned african model the cover if that is what they were going for? I find it offensive because that is what white singers and dancers used to do when they made fun of us in the 1920′s and beyond. People do not let someone diminsh your light and that is what they did to Beyonce on this cover.!!!! I am stepping off my soapbox (drops the mic)

In my view, she looks amazing without the darken makeup.
