‘ROUND THE WAY: CIARA DROPPED FROM JIVE RECORDS?!

February 8th, 2011

Word on the street is that pop/R&B singer Ciara has been dropped from Jive Records after struggling with album sales for her fourth studio album ‘Basic Instinct’, which has sold between 40,000 and 50,000 so since its debut in December 2010. Apparently her single “Turn It Up” featuring Usher was scheduled to hit the radio airwaves on March 8th but was later pulled for some reason:

Reports are now beginning to surface that Jive finally pulled the plug on Ciara. Insiders say the singer is a drain on label resources because she does not know her artistry and is unable to pin down a unique sound. One insider said that “the label would rather invest in someone like Chris Brown who is proving successful on multiple formats”…Ciara and Jive executives are said to have reached mutual terms to end their partnership, effective immediately. [ SOURCE ]

On the other hand, it is also rumored that she has been visiting the Universal Records offices and may be in talks with Interscope Records about a possible deal…If this is true, then that’s a damn shame! I guess we shall see…

TRUTH! i like ciara her evolution CD was FIYA every track was crack, but she started drinking the hollywood water and got to big for her britches. She needs a new team to revamp her style, less cocky/overlysexy and more humble/relatable IJS!!

She’s trying to save face by saying she doesn’t care about sales and is more into touring. Duh, you still need to have hot records to tour and that matrix move ain’t gonna work past 40. It’s drying up now.

Half of the time when an article says “A source” of “A very liable source”, the story is a hot pile a steaming bullshit. Im not running with anything until I hear it from Jive Records themselves or Ciara herself. But no matter what decision she makes, she’ll always have a fan in me.

i agree ~BeySoBreezy~…anyhoo..even if she is being dropped..it’s time for a change anyhow..meaning…NEW LABEL..NEW PUBLICIST..NEW TEAM..Ciara ALWAYS delivers..it’s the people behind her that fail…it’s like they want her to do what she does and let that sell..it takes more than that!

Wow.. Most artist reach a certain peak and become stagnant. Ciara is no different. Change is good and maybe a fresh start is needed. I love Ciara but she needs to channel her “Goodies” days. I think she’s trying to be a lot of things for a lot of people instead of becoming the artist she wants to become. Selling sex is fun for some but the fun playful Ciara is what got her put on.. Best of Luck Cici.

THIS IS A GOOD NEWS CAUSE HER RECORD LABEL PROBABLY REDUCED THE BUDGET AND ALSO DONT HAVE ANY WORKING MARKETING STRATEGY. SO MAYBE WITH A NEW ONE SHE GONNA DO BETTER. AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED CIARA SHOULD HAVE BEEN A CHOREOGRAPHER BUT WAS LUCKY TO BE A LIL MARKETABLE. SHE SHOULD HAVE STICKED TO CRUNK, WHERE SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED INTO SOMETHING AND THEN MAYBE SWITCH. HER PROJECTS HAVE POTENTIALS, ALL HER ALBUMS WERE GOOD BUT THEY HAD NO CORRECT MARKETING AND SELLING STRATEGIES, AND HERSELF LET HER CAREER GO, ENJOYING LIFE AND BEING PHOTOGRAPHED INSTEAD OF WORKING HARDER. ALSO ITS A DAMN LIE, CIARA DEFINITELY HAD HER OWN SOUND, BUT THAT SOUND HAS BEEN TAKEN BY NONE OTHER THAN KERI HILSON. LISTEN TO THEIR ALBUMS, THE SAME THEMES, LYRICS, STYLES, ONE THING THAT DIFFERS IS THEIR VOICES, KERI OUTSING CIARA AND CIARA OUTDANCES KERI. YOU CAN CLEARLY TELL THAT KERI TOOK CIARA’S SPOT AND MUSIC. SORRY.

AND JAZZY PHAT AZZ DID THE SAME TO HER… THEY WERE TRYING TO USE HER WHICH THEY DID AND THEN LEFT HER OUT TO DRY….. I TRIED TO GET A SONG TO HER MANAGMENT AND SOME DUMB DUMB AT A CERTAIN WRITING ORGANIZATION COMPANY TOLD ME THAT THE SONG SOUNDED TO GOOD FOR HER TO SING… ARE YOUSERIOUS!!! THEY SABOTAGED THIS GIRL!! AND SADLY SHE DIDN’T SEE IT COMING…

SHE SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH THE ATL THING BECAUSE WE HERE IN THE A WOULD HAVE SUPPORTED HER ALL THE WAY… NOW SHE UP IN LA AND THEY GIVING ALL OF THE GLORY AND CREDIT TO KERRI HILSON.. YOU ARE SO SO RIGHT… YO CIARA IF YOU ARE READING THIS YOU NEED TO INBOX ME AT HERMUSICSOUNDSGOOD@GMAIL.COM

I dont agree with this ciara doesnt have a sound. EX. Beyonce has her big band/bang single ladies..deja vu..freek um dress type sound. Rihanna has the carribian/badgirl/sexypop thing/sound. Aaliyah was very forward/artistic and futuristic with her music…ciara doesnt have a sound. which means no target audience. and to be honest her last 2 albums were lacking. evolution was her best todate and Keri just makes better music hands down vocally and lyrically hell she used to write for ciara. so na she didnt take ciaras place ciara is just out of ideas and what she can do only goes so far. keep it real.

    Ciara recovery career plan

    1. Switch Labels + Team!

Clearly Jive doesn’t love you anymore. Not only has the promotion for this latest album been dismal, but your previous album, Fantasy Ride, wasn’t exactly a runaway success either. You need people with a fresh perspective around you, that includes new agents, new managers and new publicists. People move around a lot in the music industry and you’ll find that those who were once the biggest champions for your work, don’t even work at your label anymore. Our pick for your new label? Island Def Jam. Currently being run by L.A Reid, the same exec who signed Ciara to her current record deal, perhaps he could reignite the spark in her career since he was one of the people who believed enough in her to sign her. Other options include Interscope & J Records.

    2. Join Janet Jackson’s Number Ones Tour as Opening Act.

While you may think you’re already at headliner status, those album sales indicate otherwise. Why not team up with the legend whose career path you most admire? You guys share fans with similar musical tastes and it’ll be a good way to at least attempt to salvage promotion for this album. Also, you’ll begin to build a stronger international fan base. Every journalist and blogger will be talking about this team up if it happens! Furthermore, both you and Janet are known for putting on a great show. Folks are sure to get their money’s worth. DO IT! Oh and while you’re at it…

    3. Do a Duet with Janet Jackson

å la Britney Spears & Madonna’s “Me Against The Music”, bridge the generational gap and give the people what they want! Surely we aren’t the only ones who think a Ciara and Janet Combo would be dope!

    4. Create a Crossover Album That Respects Your Core Audience.

The Ciara we were all introduced to was an athletic Atlanta native who mixed Crunk, Hip-Hop & R&B into a hyper active genre that kept us all moving. A lot of the promo for Basic Instinct revolved around the premise that we were going to be getting back to that sound but it’s not that simple. The job of a pop star is to do what’s current & relevant while pushing the boundaries as well as creating sonic nods to your original/signature sound. I think your case is unique because your supposed signature sound is far too rooted in a genre that has seen better days: Crunk. Thus, you need to create a new signature sound. Also, you need not make The-Dream & Tricky your main collaborators, no matter how good your personal chemistry is together. This attempt at a “Janet + Jam + Lewis” esque production crew didn’t quite manifest the results it was supposed to.

Let’s get some Missy Elliot, Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Red One, Bagg and Arnthor, Danja and Rodney Jerkins into the mix for the next record. If you want to get even more adventurous, start traveling the world and figuring out what types of music is popping off overseas and what producers are hot over there. That’s how we all got on this new Dance Pop wave which is currently on its way out. Some industry taste-makers say the next sound of the moment will be a more rock influenced sound and after that I believe R&B will have a renaissance of sorts.

Also, Watch your A&R’s. Some of them are lazy and will only seek out the same two producers who they have a good relationship with as opposed to seeking out fresh and talented producers who have great material. Don’t be afraid to use younger unknown producers. Many of them aren’t quite corrupted by the industry system yet and they are focused on being creative and they are not simply adhering to the mold that has been created for you.

    5. Stop Doing The matrix

Cause we get it, you’re flexible. But this is not some neo-cultural dance phenomenon to rival Michael’s Moon Walk. Cut. It. Out. Furthermore, your visual presentation as a whole needs refreshing. Converses glued onto stripper heels? C’MON SON.

    6. Get On Your Competition’s Level.

See those two girls up there? Beyoncé & Ciara, That’s your competition. At this point in your career, you should/need to be in the same places they are, getting the same amount of promo they do and racking up the same chart success. Yet at this point in your career, if the music industry was a neighborhood and those two were neighbors in luxurious mansions, you rent condo down the street. No Bueno! In 2005, if you were to ask someone whether they thought Rihanna would have more #1 singles than Ciara, they probably would’ve laughed.

    7. Get The Ball Rolling!

CD sales are down and even acts who should be selling way more aren’t selling as much as they used to. You need to create a movement of sorts and get the people and the general public interested in your work! Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t the die hard fans who contribute the most to your success, it’s the folks who heard your song a few times and fell in love with it.

For most folks it takes at least 2-3 really dope singles for them to consider buying your album, which means next go around you need at least 2 top 10 singles before your album even drops. Are you ready for the challenge Ciara? Your career is truly at a turning point and it can go either way. Switch the style up and do what you have to do because at the end of a day, what you’re doing now ain’t cutting it!

Ciara fans need to quit acting oblivious to this whole situation. Ciara has been flip flopping down the charts for years….and that was if her songs were lucky enough to make it to the top 10,000. I mean, I’m not hating because I don’t mind her as an artist but like I always say..let’s be frank. It was only a matter of time, if this happens to be true. At the end of the day, she’s very redundant routine-wise and most of her songs are mediocre, if that. So, I’m pretty sure most of us saw this coming.

Janet & Madonna are still making that tour money… she COULD make it with the right team behind her……. she is no jhud or jazmine sullivan but she does have something…. she just needs to work on her consistency in her performance and put out better and more relatable songs

The industry is just not the same anymore. I’m a fan of Ciara’s, however not a stan so I don’t have a unhealty love for her, lol! but I will say this, her music is no worse or mediocre then any other pop star today. Her unreleased material IMO is better then some of h er official releases. Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady GaGa etc they all make music for right now, none of these chicks have music with substance or that is worth a damn. If your a “key” player you’ll get success. That’s why they call it a game, these chicks ppl stan over are just the game pieces (ponds). Rihanna said best in her song, “It’s just the way the game is played, it’s best that you just wait your turn.”

Kesha and Justin Bieber can make it but we all know what thats about hmm…

anyways on to relevancy… she was not a cross over success to keep it brief here. the media tried to package her as straight up RnB even with collabo with Justin Timberlake.

She’d be a great choreographer for someone in her style and taste of dance numbers…she’s got that lean dancer body, although a bit tall..she’s a cute girl. seems sweet too…she has a future maybe not as a singer/performer but she’s rich now, cute, sweet, personable…she’ll be ok. i know this hurts but this TOO shall pass….

I honestly feel Jive gave up on her a long time ago and just stopped pushing her as an artist. They stopped marketing her well after The Evolution. Fantasy Ride on the other hand wasn’t a perfect album, but it was better than Basic Instinct. However on Ciara’s behalf, she should NOT have invested all her time in Dream producing her album. His sound is beginning to wane and he lacks creativity, and he wants to bullshit about how Ciara’s time in the biz is almost up when a good reason why her album tanked was because of his wack beats. I like Ciara, I believe she deserves to be up there with Rihanna. She is a very humble girl, can write music, and has a presence that deserves to be reckoned with. Hopefully a label like Geffen/Interscope will pick her up.

This really should not be shocking news to anyone. Ciara CANNOT sing. She’s a great dancer, she’s tall, she’s pretty, she should model or become a choreographer but NEVER part her lips to sing another note. The music industry has all their niches filled. There is no place for Ciara, especially when she’s not adding anything new or different to an oversaturated market.

I saw a recent interview on Ciara online and the girl lacks star power.

She can dance, yes and is a good live performer.

But it’s always been about star power, especially now more than ever.

Ciara’s personality is so dull and there’s no spark. Again, these days fans/the public/the media want that “it” factor to draw them in.

Wish her the best. She’s talented and seems to have made good money.

i agree, she should have been dropped a while ago. She lost that first r&b hit, that we fell for then the reality of it was she’s not a good singer, and she couldnt find that creative niche to offset that tune herself. now r&b can go back . Monica, keyshia cole, mjb, we need the real r&b back.

i saw it coming. But she didn’t come out with music and do promo performance until her album came out. she waited too long. Ride was a big hit in the summer she should’ve been out performing it, etc…she just wasn’t promoting her album the way she used to when Goodies & Evolution was the shit. She’s just not doing enough for me.

Jive realised that people will no longer be fooled by heavy bass lines and dancing to cover up her montone voice, the chick had to sing with her head voice and use two octaves or go she chose the latter.
