Last week, rumors were circulating about Ciara and her status with her record label, Jive Records. Today, the 25 year-old singer/dancer set the record straight on her Facebook page and shared her thoughts in a letter written to her devoted fans. In the note, she disclosed her frustration with her records sales and working with her home label.
Ciara also hinted that she hopes to leave the Clive Davis empire and find a music home elsewhere:
TO MY FANS
This week the net has been a buzz of the rumor that I have been dropped from my label. At this point that rumor is false.. It is true that I have asked and I pray that my label will release me. I have had some great times and success with my label, but sometimes like all great things, its at that point where I feel we don’t share the same views on who I am as a artist. The past two albums have been very frustrating for me. At times there were songs I chose to lead a project and I was ignored! This project, I even tried to get Gimmie Dat started I spent tens of thousands of my own money only to hear the radio pds tell me my label didn’t want the song played.I even spent more than one hundred thousand dollars out of my pocket on the video to bring my vision to it and still no label support. I do understand that some labels are not financially supporting their artists and I have become one of them… You, my fans, know that I strive to do my best to deliver to my you the best songs and creative vision I possibly can. I’m dedicated to my music, performance and to my fans! I’ve tried to be a team player with the label only to have compromised what I truly believed.. And was not given the right opportunity to promote and inform my fans of the release of this album..I have so much of me as a artist I still want to give to the world and my fans. A release would allow me to go be creative with people who care and understand me as a artist. In a short time, I will be able to bring to you a new music energy and a visual excitement! Thank you so much for standing by me through the good, bad, and the confusion. I love you all.
Welp. There you have it. Wishing her the best in her business decision..I say go independent.
WE LOVE YOU CICI!!! KEEP GRINDIN! I knew something wasnt right

Wow. This is really insightful. Much respect for what she is trying to do.
ciara is real artist she may not have the strongest voice but it is unique. She in 7 years she has been in the business. She has learnt how write songs/cowrote. Directed videos. Sings and dances aswell as acts. I can mention a few girls who just whine out on stage and shake their ass that don’t have or haven’t even learnt these musical techniques. she may not have the top hits like some. but she’s a defination of a true artist who is always re enforced and embraced her craft.
so just just a real artist to me. whether she has to do it independantly
This always happens. After numerous failed album, the singer blames the label and always says “I’m asking to leave”. Ciara’s past two albums have lacked materially, it has nothing to do with the leading singles nor the promotion into the records. Some artist just reach their peak, and there is nothing a label can do about it. Most of Ciara’s original fanbase, have moved on from her and no longer BUY her music…although they may claim they support her, the sales are not there because they are NOT buying it. A label is only going to put so much money into a project. If they are not making the profit back, they are not gonna waste the finances.
Agree 100%. She should go back to working with
Jazzy Pha (sp?) if she is going to make music. She was at her best then.
I thought Clive Davis was J Records *shrugs*
Anyway, Ciara is a cut girl and dances her but off but her singing is a different story. I really think she should model, maybe act or even do something like Lil Mama, some type of dance show. She seems like a sweet heart I wish her the best.
Clive is behind Jive, J Records, RCA, Arista, and Sony.
correction: cute
I wish Ciara the ultimate best. She has a personality that would go far in the industry, to be honest with you, I think she just made the mistake of working with Dream and Tricky on her last two albums. They didn’t give her their ultimate best, and because of that, I hope Dream’s career doesn’t get any further than it is. She was on a good pace with her first 2. She deserves to be up there with Rihanna, I still think she will eventually be our new generation Janet. Little do people know, Janet released 2 unsuccessful albums before her pinnacle Control album with her dreamteam of JimmyJam and Terry Lewis came out in 86, I believe with the right production, good songwriting, and a very supportive label, she will reach her pinnacle like Janet did.
U SOUND STUPID..DREAM IS A BEAST..AND HE GAVE CIARA HITS..HER LABEL CHOSE THE SONGS THEY DID FOR WHATEVER REASON..JUST CUS HER ALBUM FLOPPED DONT MEAN IT WASNT BANGERS ON IT..THEY MADE THE WRONG CHOICES..”YOU CAN GET IT” HAS NUMBER ONE WRITTEN ON ITS FOREHEAD LIKE PICK ME..”MY UP AND DOWN” WHICH DIDNT MAKE THE ALBUM WAS PROMISE NUMBER 2…SHE MADE ENEMIES AT HER LABEL OBVIOUSLY..HOW U WISH NO SUCCESS ON ANOTHA MAN..LAME
Honestly, no label is going to put out money for an artist they feel is too big of a risk. Look who her competition is. . .although she may not be in the same musical category and have a different style and blah, blah, blah she is still competing with other female artist out there. Like, Rihanna, Gaga, Beyonce, Keri Hilson, etc. and all of these women are difficult to compete with. Beyonce has been in the industry for a long timw, Rihanna just commands attention because she has ‘it’ and I could go on and on but the point is she is too big of a risk and she has been in the industry too long to not have made steady ground. . .I don’t want to say its too late for her, but its going to be hard for her.
Good luck Ciara, I’m still listening to Basic Instinct and I think there are so many great tracks, with proper promotion and support from your label, it could have been much more successful. Good luck and bring us more music!
uhhh..THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF BOTH PARTIES F’N UP..”GIMME DAT IS BASURA..THE VIDEO IS BANANAS THO..SHOULD’VE USED THAT SKILL ON “YOU CAN GET IT” OR “WHATS FOR DINNER”..THOSE R BANGERS..”ALBUM SHOULD’VE BEEN READY WHEN “RIDE’ WAS BANGIN’..AND HER LABEL REALLY DID PULL THE PLUG ON HER..SHE STILL GOT MO TALENT THAN ALOT OF CHIX IN THE GAME..SHE IS THE BEST DANCER IN THE GAME HANDS DOWN..EVEN BETTER THAN CHRIS BROWN AND JANET JACKSON HAS NEVA DANCED UPSIDE DOWN IN A VIDEO..”NO DISRESPECT”..AS FOR FANTASY RIDE..SO MANY SINGLE CHOICES..THEY CHOSE TO GO WITH THAT FLAT ASS JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE SONG..JUST BECAUSE HE WAS JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE..AND WHOEVER SAID DREAM DIDNT GIVE CIARA HIS BEST MATERIAL IS LYIN TO THEMSELVES..SHE HAS SINGLE CHOICES FOR DAYS..HER OUTTAKES IS RIDICULOUS..”MY UP AND DOWN” IS A NUMBER ONE SINGLE FROM HER THATR WILL NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY…SOMEBODY ON HER TEAM IS WACK AT PICKIN ALBUM TRACKS AND SINGLES..PLAIN AND SIMPLE..SHE GOT THE VISUALS DOWN..
It all started when she posed nude, starting acting like a socialite via Kim Kardashian, talking completely different, and reports of how her persona is nasty and has went “hollyweird”
That label made the mistake not to have Ciara perform on every show she could instead of doing interviews. Her power is in her dancing. They put her out there to late before the project came out.
Also she shouldn’t have changed her crunk image too soon. That image worked for her better. I don’t know what happen between her and Jazze Pha. But that sound fit her better than any sound. Just like Janet had Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis sound. Ciara should have stuck with one sound. The problem is she has nothing U can remember her by just her dancing. The music industry is tough. I’m surprise she has lasted this long..
Jive is shit
I love you cici
Best of luck, success and happiness what a true player..
C-ERRROR was focused on running around town with Kim Kardashian and La-La while these bitches was hustling locking in their dough…Did you ever see a guest appearance from C-Error on the Kardashian NO!…La-La gave her 30secs in her wedding fiasco…Her BFF’s have connections & yet she is in this predicament…I don’t feel sorry for C-Error get yo ass out of Cali & back in the ATL to your roots..Stop phucking with those WEST COAST BITCHES…cause you aint built for that shit…
SHE CAN SOCIALISE WITH WHOEVER SHE WANTS IDIOT
THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MUSIC, JIVE HAVENT SUPOORTED HER, END OF.
SHE BACKED THIS ALL HERSELF WITH NO HELP..THE LABEL TOLD STATIONS NOT TO PLAY HER SONGS..
GIVE THE GIRL A BREAK!!!
I HOPE IN THE FUTURE SHE GETS THE CREDIT SHE DESERVES
Whatever Ciara. I believe Jive. They prefer to pump their money into Chris Brown who’s proven to be a more bankable artist after fighting his way back. She needs new music to even tour. She’s not a regular seller of large venues and was barely filling the smaller venues. Her fans didn’t even financially support her projects they were so bad. Stop it and step your game up while you’re out of a job.
This is the same thing situation with Nelly and Solange…The label does decided what they want to do with the artist… Nellys albums didnt sell due to promotion which is the label wants to see a return on their investment they should promote their artist….Solange was dropped from columbia but columbia really didnt pump alot of money into her project nor did they really promote her…I believe that its really unfair as an artist to have to make music for the label but the label dont hold up their end of the deal by promoting the project….clearly nowadays quality of music and talent has nothing to do with sales….as long as radios keep pushing music to the public we become infatuated with the song and instantly its a hit (reference soulja boy crank that) when the playing field become equal then we shall start to see change in the music industry
My brother recommended I may like this website. He was entirely right. This submit truly made my day. You can not consider simply how so much time I had spent for this info! Thanks!
