Christina Aguilera Singing ‘Star-Spangled Banner’
Superbowl XVL started off with it’s usual football game procedure, beginning with an acapella performance of the national anthem by a well-known and recognized vocal recording artist. This year’s rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” was done by pop singer Christina Aguilera. The “Genie In A Bottle” singer sang soulfully and belted her rendition (as usual), only this time the 30 year-old, Grammy award winner must have forgotten to practice one last time as we watched her sing the wrong lyrics. Whoops!
**UPDATE: In response to her human error, Aguilera issued this statement:
”I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.” [Source]

Oh well. She’s still the best singer in the industry, along with Jennifer Hudson. And she at least had the nerve to sing it live. Almost no one sings it live…and this is why. I strongly disagree..they are both amazing singers but both are not flawless performers..they both tend to get a little shouty and times and slopy with some of there riffs and runs. They are both extraordinary but i do not feel that she is the best singers in the industry…especially after butchering an important career defying perforances such as this one….and please understand just becase you can hit crazy notes and can sing extremly loud, doesnt make u a great singer!

Although she messed up the words of the National Anthem, she still did the best rendition I’ve seen at the Superbowl for a lone time. She KILLED that performance live! Not many artists can sing that great live.

This was absolutely horrible. The people who don’t care must not care about being an American and are so stupid! How could you make an excuse for such an arrogant singer?!? It was obvious that she got cocky with her vocals and overexerted herself! That’s why many are mad at her for screwing up the song. Did any of you even take the time to think of that? Had she not tried so putting so much soul, which she barely has, in it and making it all about her, then she probably would not have messed up on the lyrics. I felt like it was disrespectful, selfish, and I was thinking, Oh Girl, just sing the song already! She basically recreated the entire melody.
