Meet Frank Ocean. A member of the indie hip hop collective Odd Future, the 23-year-old Frank Ocean is taking matters into his own hands and releasing his street LP, Nostalgia/Ultra.

It might come as a bit of a shock, considering the music that fans have heard Ocean produce with Odd Future, however, when listening to the LP, it’s clear as to why this body of work has caught the attention of several industry heavyweights, as well as landed him a deal with Island Def Jam. Nostalgia/Ultra is definitely a departure from the group’s material, but Frank’s solo project is an amazing fusion of pop, alternative, down beat electronica and soul.
For those new to him, Frank sums himself up pretty easily:
“My name is Frank Ocean. I grew up in New Orleans. I’m from Odd Future. I wrote Nostalgia/Ultra in spring 2010. I think I have Synesthesia. I feel more like some type of visual artist than a musician when I’m working. I just mean my process is more about imagery. Maybe people wanna call it a certain genre because I’m a black guy singing. I don’t really mind. To be honest, I don’t think much about it. I categorize it in iTunes as Bluegrass or Death Metal usually. I’m pretty sure I have Synesthesia though. I also wear a Kippah from time to time. I smoke Marijuana for anxiety. Oh, and I used to battle-rap in highschool.”
He’s sounds a bit like a cross between Kanye and Andre 3000 to me.

Saw this on another Website last week and didn’t really pay it any attention. However, I’m wishing that I did before. I am really digging his sound, delivery, and voice. Pretty good material.

Yeah… this is very different from Odd Future. It almost sounds like something James Fauntleroy would do. It’s definately going to be on repeat. Good job CL for the music updates lately; and is it me or is the West Coast really bubbling right now?

It’s always good to hear from new artist, especially the ones that bring something new to the table. When I saw his pic, I thought dude was Lonny Breaux..he favors him physically so much but that’s off subject. I like this dude a lot and I can see myself listening to his music on repeat for days. I’m officially a Frank Ocean fan..dude is too DOPE!

FRank Ocean saved my life with that album, somehow I wanna keep him to myselfff selfish but I dnt want him to go mainstream.

Now I know who’s voice his reminds me of. KEVIN COSSOM. They sound almost exactly alike. I’m digging Ocean’s style more, though.
This mixtape is the Truth…At times it reminded me of Ye’s Dark Twisted Fantasy…but that’s honestly a good thing. Classic material on a mixtape…an album could be genius.

ok finally got to listening to the mixtape and let me tell you: THIS DUDE IS THE BOMB! His sound is amazing….love it! Definitely check it out.
Listening to these couple tracks, I like him! He’s def in the range of the type of music I like to listen to
however, i was a bit discouraged from dl’ing the tape bcuz someone on another site commented on the description of the tape, and it deterred me a bit, so I knew I def had to preview the sings, and I’m glad I did

Frank’s mixtape is great for the road and also a good listen over wine and women.. He did it I wish his the best in this industry… I see another Drake on the rise greatness before the actual cd is ever released He will go far.
