Singer/songwriter Solange Knowles teamed up with Twin Shadow and CANT to record the song “Kenya” to help raise awareness to water harvesting for villages in Kenya. Peep the official video above and the behind the scenes video after the cut.
Here a little more info about the non-profit, RAIN:
The Replenish Africa Initiative, or RAIN, is therefore the signature community initiative of The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation. Backed by a six-year, $30 million dollar commitment from The Company, in partnership with other donors, RAIN’s goal is to provide over 2 million people in Africa with access to drinking water by 2015. RAIN will launch over 100 water access programs across Africa, including sanitation and hygiene education programs.
In collaboration with various partners, volunteers, patrons and organizations, RAIN is not just for the immediate future of Africa, but also for the long-term sustainability of its resources.

That was simply beautiful, the video, the song and more importantly its for a great cause! No one should hate on Ms. Solange for doing something pure and positive.
She is doing a great thing. I was all for this and what Coca Cola is doing until I read, “sanitation and hygiene education programs”. These people been cleaning able to maintain themselves this long without getting influences from someone else on how to clean their butts. Who are they to say that they aint doing it the right way, its their way. Help them by giving them clean water and let them wipe their tails they way they want.
very enlighting video. ALSO i must note how Rihanna Vogue pics have over 50 comments in less than 5 minutes and this only has 3? shows whats more important to the majority of our society..smh i guess the end is near
Great cause, BUT she kills me…
Where are the post on the LOVELY, BEAUTIFUL, EDUCATED AND MULT-TALENTED AMERIIE?
how donations/handout must my continent accept before they establish a water system.
Where I come from only the rich have access to water 24/7. They’ve figured that they don’t need to contribute as long as america and the rest of the world keeps helping the poor.
Now, im not saying that what solange and the rest of the world is doing is bad. its certainly better to take a proactive stance against poverty than to watch people suffer but its getting annoying. I wish the hand-outs will stop and even if it did i doubt the filthy rich of Africa would do anything.
This is some bullshit. I come from Kenya and all these celeb ‘do gooders’ do is go to the absolute most desolate areas of Kenya and then project that as what Kenya is all about. BS. Its like going to all the crackhouses, beat down ghettos and derelict buildings in the USA and then projecting that to the world as what the USA is all about. Fucking patronising bullshit.
If Africa changes its image, we wouldn’t have that problem. You can’y blame solange for not knowing any better.
IF AFRICA CHANGES THEIR IMAGE?
WHO CONSTRUCTED THE IMAGE OF AFRICA?
WHO!?
the answer to the question will navigate your understanding on the “image of Africa”.
What the fuck kind of shit is that to say?
@Smexypoo
Don’t get upset at her. She doesn’t know any better. But that is something she CAN change if she decides to educate herself instead of making ignorant statements such as those.
