The album kicks off with “Something Big”, an anthem-like track that gives the album an edgy introduction. The song makes you want to stomp your foot to the pulsing drums and symbols. With its repetitive hook, one can’t help but sing along to the call-and-response lyrics. Before you know it, you’re in another world in the follow-up track, “Something Bigger.” The song starts off with chanting, synthesized voices repeating, ‘gotta do it, gotta do it big!’, setting the head-nodding pace for the rest of the track. This song definitely makes you want to move and has a great message on how to stay faithfully motivated and true to yourself. If you’re going to go for anything, you’d better come with it, right? Go hard or go home! A stand out lyric: “Why am I going to the battle if I don’t want to fight? I’m going for the throne. Gotta be incredible!”

A few tracks later, Mary Mary slows down the tempo with a reminiscent rendition of the traditional church hymn, “It Is Well” (With My Soul). Rather than using the organ, synthesized voices are heard in the background, singing harmoniously, gently weaving in and out of each other. These ladies never go wrong when it comes to their slow-tempo songs. This is one of those tracks that can be listened to when in need of solace or a soothing, quiet moment for mental clarity.
When it comes to their lead single, “I’m Walking”, one can’t help but think about those days as a child, rollerskating at a rink with one’s friends. It makes you want to just cruise down the strip or the beach, on a warm summer’s day and just smile because you’re feeling that good. This song as well as “Survive” are two songs that you can literally listen to while taking a stroll around the park or neighborhood on a beautiful, sunny day.

As the album progresses, your ears are pleasantly hit with the handclappin’ introduction of their mid-tempo song, “Are You Ready?”, an alternative pop rock-inspired song about the importance of having a strong, positive mindset during those life changing moments. Mary Mary’s message: In order to be where you want to be, you’ve got to “get your mind right”, prepare and take action. One can’t help but agree.

Someones gotta do what they’re doing… they may not be for u. but they are for those who cant listen to old school gospel. in my opinion the only thing that has changed is the beats to the tracks they use their message has always been the same.
What exactly is making their music secular? Unless they are promoting sin, it’s not secular, a style or sound isn’t what make the music secular but what is being said. Just like a style or sound of music doesn’t make a record gospel but what’s being said, truth be told there is less and less of the gospel being preached in gospel music and more of a specific sound that people associate gospel with that’s being pushed, which is the religious mentality that Jesus tells His own to avoid, run from, stay clear of.

Great album review coverage!! I was in much anticipation of this album and I went out in the storming rain to get it today during lunch break…I’ve always been a huge fan of Mary Mary and I believe this is neck-n-neck with their first album “Thankful” as far as consistency and diversity. All the songs are great!! You won’t be disappointed…promise

Ummmm I’m still waithing for the Gospel songs. None of the one posted here are gospel, sounds like and inspirational gospel album, with a tribute to God in about two songs. Very disappointed in what I’ve heard so far. If this is where they are heading, I hate to see what the next album is going to sound like, and I was a huge fan of Mary Mary, but this is a half inch from secular. Its inspirational. Next album, maybe they’ll just cross all the way over.
I agree the last album I brought was their self title album after that they cross over to inspirational foolishness. They need to go back to their roots and quick with the mainstream junk…

I haven’t heard this entire CD but if you are a Christian and you read the bible, you can hear them representing Christ in these songs. You don’t give meat to a baby it would choke, you start them off with milk then lead them to the meat. If their music causes someone to go to church or pick up a bible because it helped the listener to see how God offers salvation to them too, then they have done well.

it drives me crazy to read comments that say MM is going to too far or crossing over. I promise these ladies arent doing anything they werent doing 10 years ago when I was in middle school. “Shackles” was all inspirational and pop just like “Incredible and God in me” all singles to grab attention. Kirk Franklin went through the same thing with ppl misunderstanding his message because of its delivery. Trust that these women are the real deal and they rep Jesus all day in their message and their music. I will continue to support them

It kills me when Christians complain about how gospel music has become too contemporary or secular. One mission of being a Christian is to go out and tell the world about Christ, not just to those that already know, but to the people who don’t. They are creating music that reaches all people. Keep up the good work ladies.

Great album Mary Mary – i don’t get people talking about this isn’t gospel, this is inspirational music, as if that’s a bad thing. Who doesn’t need to hear a positive message in a song? Yall so stupid..so so so so stupid. I imagine God looks down at earth some days and is just like dang I wish these stupid people would stop speaking for me. Mary Mary, keep giving us this “inspirational music”. I’ll receive the message while the “saints” go listen to whatever they deem as acceptable gospel music.
Great album. Have it on consistent repeat. These ladies delivered. I LOVED The Sound and consider it to be my fave of theirs but this one is still great. Standout songs: Catch Me, Never Wave My Flag and Walking.
In regards to them being too ‘secular’, who said GOSPEL music the way it is now is the way God ordained it and everything else is of the devil. God created music. The devil creates sinful thoughts, words and actions. Mary Mary’s music is filled with positive words and uplighting messages leading one to act for God. If the music aint of the devil, its of God and worth listening.
For those not convinced, listen carefully to the lyrics of Something Big. Its pretty much their song to all the finger-pointers and haters.

I love the cd it gives the young generation something to listen to because u know most children dont like gospel but the way they put their music I can listen to it all day.

God is Sovereign, knowing all intentions of the heart of men. Secular is of this world;worldly is flesh; flesh is enmity against God which is sin. Who is the prince of the world? Read John 14:30. The music has transformed more to “I” and “me” instead of praising and worshiping Our Creator,King. Worship and praise music is supposed to glorify God and His Kingdom. Songs for testimonal purposes are to glorify God and minister to His people. However, if 80 percent of the song is preaching watered down gospel, glorifying self i.e. “I” and “me”, you may want to ask yourself “wait a minute”. I remember in a interview, one gospel artist said in context, music have to sound like the world to reach out. But according to God’s word in Romans 12:2; we’re in this world but we should not conform to it. Publicans and sinners came to sit down with Jesus to hear Him (Luke 15:1-10), however, Jesus did not change, conform or compromise who He was nor Purpose. What drawn publicans and sinners to Yeshua, Jesus? There are no in between with God; either you will serve God or satan. What you believe is evidence on how you live. Don’t believe what I say or my report but instead, believe God’s everlasting word, which is Life and Truth.

The album isnt good at all. Some songs are ok.
People need to stop saying they are reaching people, what does music have to do with reaching the lost? The message of the Cross is nowhere to be found in this album and that is the ONLY message that saves.
How on earth is saying that they are doing it big going to save anyone? and what on earth does that mean? does one have to be famous to do something big for The LORD.
Where are the lyrics? most of the choruse lines are one word repeated over and over again and we feel that is good? Pick a Fred Hammond album and listen to lyrical content. Many dont like hymns but go and check out the lyrical content. Go and listen to Sarah Groves.
Many people will not like my comments but the CD sounds contrived. Its like a poorly done knock off overall.
We need to stop idolizing these artists, no matter how much they sell out and give us some rubbish we call it good.
I have almost all of their albums but this is a poor represtention of Christ for it lacks quality.
