Last Saturday at around 10pm, shots rang as someone opened fire on a car of 4 to 5 girls, as it pursued the vehicle down Old National Highway in Stone Mountain, Georgia. One of the passengers, Asheley Jewell received a life-threatening gun shot wound to the back of the head.
After it was discovered that Jewell was hit, her girlfriends jumped out of the vehicle in hopes to seek help from nearby homes. The 15 year-old high school sophomore is currently listed in critical condition at Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital.
Detective Melissa Parker of the Fulton County Police disclosed that their investigation leads them to believe that ‘there’s a good possibility that it was road rage.’ They also ‘believe that shots were being fired along the path that they were [being] chased.’
Jewell’s cousin, Ebony Phillips issued the following statement about the impact of this tragic incident as well as her family’s hope of someone stepping forward:
“We deserve to know what happened to her. Why is it that you can’t ride down the street, mind your business, go get food, without getting shot? We believe that God is going to work a miracle in this case. We have to believe that there are decent people out there who care enough about a mother’s pain to step up and do the right thing. That’s all we want that’s all any mother would want.
Asheley, is the daughter of A.J. Jewell (former fiance to “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member, Kandi Burruss) and he passed away as a result of the injuries he sustained from a fight outside of an Atlanta night club back in 2009.
